I have a on-site split stay coming up with room only reservations in both resorts. I have already customized the magic bands with FP+ and Dining reservations. Now I hear Magic Bands are available to AP holders which I am. How does that work? Am I going to have to wear 2 Magic Bands? One for my AP and the other for FP+, dining and to open the room door?

bring whichever color one u want and have them activate that band. Nothing is on the band. Everything is in the mde program/app. That just gets associated with the band by a cast member.

Everything will be tied to your MDE account and the band reads that account. Only one band would be required. You would add your AP to your MDE acct.

If you bring all your bands you can color coordinate them to your outfits ;). They are all linked to your account.

Oh thank you. I had visions of wearing Magic Bands around my neck!

Both bands will work interchangeably with ticket, FP+, dining! charging privileges and room access on each.

Does anyone know if AP discounts will be linked to your account yet? It's so convenient to have the band, but having to dig for all of the cards (AP, DVC, TiW) to get discounts really defeats the awesomeness of having the band right there on your wrist waiting to be magical. Not sure if linking these privileges will happen in the future or not, but since they are issuing bands to AP holders now, it popped into my head as a possibility. Or maybe just wishful thinking!!

I'm sure a major hold-up will be how to make sure that the member is the one using the discount because unless they add biometric scanners to all of the checkouts and dining locations, you would still have to require ID to make sure that a discount holder didn't just give the band and pin number to a friend.

Name should show up on their reader when you use the MB and all they have to do is ask for an ID. No biometrics involved except at the touch-point park entries.

I was just there and am an AP holder and did a split stay. I could use whatever band I wanted no problem. Did have to show my AP for any discounts I wanted to get.

So you have to still carry the RFID AP card with the AP Magic Band?

Now that AP holders are getting MB you will also receive a gold or black discount card with your name printed on the back. That is what you will need to show with a photo ID for parking and discounts.

This card cannot be replaced. If it is lost you will be issued one of the current cards like you have now to present for discounts.

No. You still have to show the card to get the discounts.

Yes, if you want discounts. AP holders are apparently now being issued a special card to use for discounts and parking. Yes, we'll have to carry that card. Plus photo ID.

I have an AP, do I need to request a magic band, do they send it automatically or will they give me one when I visit the park next time?

CHeck your MDX account under Magic Bands and Cards and they will give you the opportunity to customize it and confirm your shipping address. When you click ship they will send it.

I like the idea of discounts and Tiw linked to the band. I hope that is in the works.

Not sure how new this is. I was there a couple of weeks ago, and when I picked up my AP at Will Call, the CM tried unsuccessfully to add the AP to my MB. I didn't care, since the card is needed for discounts anyway. At my resort, the CM put my AP on my MB easily, but cautioned me that when I return to WDW I ABSOLUTELY MUST bring the MB back with me since now my AP is on it. I think that just like every other topic, the CMs all say something different, and some of it is true....

FWIW: Regarding renewable (passes renewed on an annual basis), this was posted on the CM website today. Might clear up some questions or might just add to the question list (this is all I know about it so don't ask any questions of me about it - just copy / pasted it from the HUB for your info):

All Passholders are now eligible to customize MagicBands and make FastPass+ selections in advance. This is a huge milestone, as another significant portion of our Guest audience can take part in MyMagic+ testing.

Passholders are those Guests who have annual, seasonal or premium passes; Premier passes; water park; DisneyQuest; Epcot After 4 p.m.; or other passes renewable on a yearly basis. They can link their Passes in My Disney Experience and see the option to customize MagicBands, which will be shipped beginning in late March and should arrive within 10 days of shipment.

If you get questions from Passholders, here are some facts to keep in mind:

During ongoing testing, Passholders who are not staying at a Walt Disney World Resort hotel can make FastPass+ selections up to 30 days in advance of their visit. They can hold up to seven days of FastPass+ selections in a rolling 30-day window.
When Passholders who are staying at a Walt Disney World Resort hotel link their resort reservations in My Disney Experience, they can make FastPass+ selections up to 60 days in advance of their check-in date. They can make selections for seven days or the length of their resort stay, whichever is greater.
All Passholders can order new MagicBands, even if they already have one. In their MagicBand package, Passholders will find a discount card below the tray that holds their MagicBands as well as an exclusive MagicSlider. Passholders should present the discount card and a photo ID to obtain discounts around the Walt Disney World Resort. (The slider is meant as a keepsake and cannot be used for discount verification.)
Passholders will get either a gold or black discount card. The gold card indicates that the Passholder is eligible for complimentary parking at the theme parks, while the black card indicates that the Passholder is required to pay for parking. (Passholders are still required to show photo identification with their Pass or discount card to be eligible for Passholder discounts.)
If Passholders are not staying at a Walt Disney World Resort hotel, they will not be able to establish charging privileges on their MagicBands. Only Guests staying at Walt Disney World Resort hotels can establish charging privileges by linking a personal credit card to their resort account.

The CMs you got to deal with are killin' me. :)

You link your AP to MDE, and the MD links to the AP. Not sure what steps the first CM was doing. And the AP has nothing on it. It just links to MDE. So the second CM was confused.

I think biometric scanners are the only way they will allow a discount without ID. The person buying has to be the one on the AP. They can refuse the discount if they see someone handing something to you to buy with the discount.
