Phelps church is basically a cult and not a Christian church. He interprets the Bible to suit his own ends and puts real Christians in a bad light. The man is disgusting. A Christian he is NOT.

I have a friend that grew up in Kansas w/ this family. He said they have always been "nutty". He said they all are lawyers (dad was disbarred) and they used to or still do live in the church itself and all claim tax exempt status.

I believe Missouri is also in the process of passing legislation to keep groups from protesting at funerals this group was here recently at a soliders funeral, who was killed in Iraq, it is disgusting that people would use these deaths of heros to further their own agenda.

I was raised a Baptist, and I'm ashamed & appalled that the Phelps group are using that in their church name. What a disgrace to any Baptist or Christian!!

The church, Westboro Baptist Church, is not affiliated with a larger denomination and is made up mostly of Fred Phelps' extended family members.

Let me be the first to say, as a Christian, that the actions of him and his church are despicable and do NOT come from a Christian perspective, much less a Baptist perspective, though he unfortunately chose to use that name in his church. This is basically his family's beliefs, and nothing else. I will say that I don't agree with homosexuality as a lifestyle, but that God loves all people, regardless of their ways, and wishes for all people to come to Him.

Horrible. I would lose it if I attended a funeral where they were protesting. This makes me so mad/sad. The poor families that have to go through the sadness of a loss and then on top of all the emotions they have to deal with those morons.

I do not know what Phelps is preaching but it is NOT what my pastor is preaching. We are told to LOVE one another and this is not what Phelps group is doing. He is using the term christian as a shield to hide behind. Phelps group is not christian and I will go so far as to say, IMHO this group is not Americican.

Yes, you are right, m & m's mom. The Fred Phelps/Westboro Baptist Church gang are actually lawyers who go around provoking confrontations, then sue for assault. They also tie up tons of police man-hours and dollars, protecting these nutjobs "freedom of speech".

Our city had the great dis-pleasure of being invaded by them a couple of years ago, in conjunction with the local theater's production of "The Laramie Project", a play about the hate crime murder of Matthew Shepard.

The best thing to do is to IGNORE them. They thrive on attention.
