This week has been one of the stinkiest weeks I have had in a long time. First on Saturday my 69 year old dad who has been dealing with prostate cancer and emphysema for about 6 years now had to go to the hospital because for 2 days he had not been able to eliminate!! He neglected to tell anyone because he did not want my mom to worry!! Well they had to do something that the Dr. called ripping the prostate!!!!! Well this procedure got him flowing again with blood of course! he looked sooo good sunday afternoon he had been very swollen the past few months and that was almost completly gone! His voice sounded great too (he has a permanent trach tube) So we all felt confident that he would be fine. Well monday at lunch time I get the call from my sis that Daddy is bleeding worse they need to take him in to surgery and find out where the bleeding is coming from. Now this really had all of us very upset because on Saturday when we first arrived the Dr. said we cant do surgery because he would not survive surgery! Now Monday they want to operate!! My father when he got into the operating room was so distressed they decided to give him a spinal instead. Well he came through this surgery well he has a ruptured bladder and a mass on the side of the bladder and they cauterized the prostate. Ok ruptured bladder?? The Dr. said that it did not contaminate his stomach cavity and the put a catheter in for that reason. So we finally go home late monday night and all seems back on track. Tuesday afternoon again I get the call he is beign rushed back into to surgery they think his intestines ruptured!!!!!!!!!! Well once again they give him a spinal because the anesthesioligist refused to put him under he had talked to my dads pulmonoligist and cardioligist and I he said he refused to be my dads death sentence. Well he comes through this surgery fairly well it turns out they needed to repair his bladder it was falling apart!?! The Dr. said it was breaking into pieces!! He said it is very fragile from the radiation treatments he recieved for the cancer. So his bladder is repaired and yesterday was a calm day he had been given a morphine pump so he was basically out of it and resting which is what he needed. So I decided to come home early and take care of some things. Well I pull in and see in the front field our old gelding (32) rolling and thrashing around and drenched in sweat. Which can only be one thing Colic! So I run out get him up and walking and get the vet on my cell phone. She got there pretty quick and examines him and part of his intestine looped around his spleen and his spleen was very enlarged and there was a growth on it!!!!!!! Well we tubed him and got all the fluid and material out of his stomach but nothing helped and I had to make the decision to put him down. So far this morning has been calm and I am hoping and praying nothing else happens and that my dad heals and can come home next week. My oldest DS is devastated about his pop pop and now the horse I dont know what to say to him. He hasnt been able to see my dad since sunday and he is very mad about it!! The nurse said Saturday he will be back in his room and we can bring the kids to see him then. Please just say a prayer for my Dad he is such a great selfless man that would do anything to help anyone not just his family. Sorry for the long post I just needed to vent! Thanks

What a bad week! I think you need to go off in a field somewhere and just scream at the top of your lungs. Sounds stupid, but it will relieve so much tension. I'm so sorry about your Dad and your horse. Hopefully things will get better with Dad and your son can get up to see him soon. :grouphug:

I am so sorry you're going through all this. Vent all you want here.

:grouphug: :grouphug: :grouphug:

You've had more than any five people could handle in a month! Try to take a few minutes for yourself if possible, maybe a hot bath and a glass of wine. Hope everything calms down a bit for you! :grouphug: Your poor Dad sounds like he's had to endure too much as well. :grouphug: :grouphug: for him!

Prayers and best wishes for a speedy recovery.

Thank you all! I just got back from the hospital and my dad is doing ok he is very tired and still on the morphine we are now waiting for the biopsy results from the mass on his bladder. My fingers are crossed and I am praying it is nothing. thanks again it is nice beign able to vent. Everyone else around me is upset so I dont want to burden them they are going through it too.

Glad to hear Dad is doing better....hang in there!!

:grouphug: Praying that things get better.

Hope your Dad is going to be okay.

Sorry about your horse. :(

Glad to hear your week is going a bit better now.

So sorry to hear about your no good, horrible week!! :grouphug:

thanks again my dad is doing a little better they moved him out of CCU so now I can take the kids to see him which make's them and him happy! Now we have to concentrate on getting himout of the hospital. thanks

Banshee, I'm sorry you are having to face all of this. I had to face similar with my dad several years ago. It's not easy.

Consider this board an extra shoulder to lean on. We'll listen.

I hope your dad continues to improve and is home soon. I'll keep him and your family in my prayers. Keep us informed. :wizard:

thank you Escape! Its hard because you feel like you have no where to turn. My DH is great but he is stressed too he really looks at my dad as a father he did a lot for my DH before we even met. That is how we met he worked for my dad. Like I said my dad will help anyone especially his employee's because he knows if not for good employee's he would'nt have what he has today. So my DH is very upset also so it's nice to have someone outside of the situation to vent to. Thanks again

Hi all please keep any prayers and pixie dust coming my dad's way. He actually came home for two days but had to be rushed back to the hospital and back into surgery he had started to bleed really bad. He is know back in the CCU they have been flushing him with Large bag's of sodium chloride, since friday evening he has had about 80 bags so far!!!!They said they cant keep flushing him this way because from a cardiac standpoint it is not good for his heart. (he had a quadruple by-pass in 93) But if there continues to be blood in his urine they cant stop flushing him. He is now fighting an infection!!! The infectious disease Dr came in today and gave us a ray of hope. And told my dad and I that he is responding well to the antibiotics and the mottling on his legs is diminishing!! They thought late saturday night that he was on the verge of becoming septic. The Dr also told him that he looked so much better than yesterday he said you are not out of the woods yet but you are almost there! YAY... please keep good thoughts or prayers coming his way please!!!! That he can make it out of the woods and get better and come home to his family! I dont know what we would do with out him :sad1:

Banshee, thanks for keeping us updated. Sounds like your dad has really gone through a lot lately. Sounds like you have too! Do you have any brothers and sisters that can help you?

When I took care of my father, I was the main caregiver and I must say, I was overwhelmed at times. I know you said you can't vent too much to your husband. I couldn't either. The main thing is for you to get rest and take care of yourself so you can help take care of your father.

Here's hoping your dad continues to improve and can come home soon! :wizard: :wizard:   :grouphug: :grouphug:

Please continue to keep us updated.

Well, I do have brothers and sisters but they all seem to have their heads up their butts lately!! And my poor mom has been so stressed they will be celebrating their 54th wedding anniversary on June 11th and she really hates that he is in the hospital. I also found out Friday that I am pregnant!!! Completely unexpected!!! But when I told my dad he was so happy and cried and told DH and I how happy he was. Thank you soooo much for the good thoughts you dont know how much they mean.

Oh, you poor thing, I am SO sorry you are going through all this. You are so lucky to have someone you love so much as you love your dad, and he is so lucky to have you. It's obvious how much you feel for him. I am keeping you both in my thoughts, as well as the rest of your family. I am also so sorry about the horse...I know that was awful, and not just due to the timing.
Hopefully you finding out you are pregnant (woohoo!) is the beginning of a big upward trend. Major hugs and pixie dust coming your way. :wizard: :grouphug:

Wow, you sure are under a lot of stress! Prayers will be said for your father. Congratulations on your pregnancy. :goodvibes And I am so sorry about your horse. :( Hang in there and keep us updated. :grouphug:
