Thanks for reading this. I have been gathering info about DVC, and I do understand the importance of buying where you prefer to stay. What I would like to know is how probable is it that you will get shut out of your home resort at the 11 month period? We don't ever go the three busiest times, Christmas, July 4th, or Easter, but I would not be happy if I called on the first possible day and found out I couldn't book my own resort. And then if you can't get your own resort, is it possible to get shut out of ANY/ALL DVC? Again, not the busiest times.

I am looking at a resale purchase at Boardwalk.

I guess my worry is that I pick out a date, using my home resort and can't get a reservation..then I wait a few months to try another DVC resort and can't get anything there, either. Has anyone ever had trouble getting a reservation ANYWHERE?

Am I making any sense???:) :rotfl2:

i would add F&W at epcot (and expand "christmas to possibly include thanksgiving weekend through new years) to your busiest time list (especially for BWV) but IMO if you are booking around the 11 month window, i would say you'd generally be fine. even if you have to waitlist the reservation, most likely it'll come through if made quickly while you're only competing with BWV owners.

getting shut out can happen but getting "completely shut out" is awfully unlikely if you start at the 11 month window...

No one knows yet exactly how the new booking policy is going to affect things. Technically it will be possible to be completely shut out for certain combinations. For example, suppose you own at BWV and only have enough home resort points that you want to check in to BWV, standard view Studio room, beginning Dec 30th, right at the 11-month window. It's highly possible that all standard view studio rooms could already be booked by the time you're allowed to book which would be the preceeding January 30th.

In fact you might get shut out of all BWV studios, both standard and preferred. And since you couldn't book any other resort, it's possible you couldn't get a studio at any of those, at 7 months, for a Dec 30th checkin.

If you only travel off times, you should be OK at the 11-month window for almost anything. Only time will tell.

Thanks for the responses, y'all. My most likely travel times would be the third week in June and the week leading up to Christmas. We try to avoid the crowds at the parks, hadn't thought about BWV being busy at Food and Wine, we don't attend that but we do like to go the the Halloween party.

This is so exciting and overwelming. More questions to come, hope y'all don't mind!

I know this may sound naive....but if a booking policy causes owners to be shut out of booking anywhere when they use the 11 month window....I would hope that DVC would be making adjustments to the policy. there may be a few specific instances. i.e.AKV concierge at NYE, but hopefully not a rampant problem. Just keep in mind that DVC busy times are a little different from the regular WDW busy times.

As for our experience, we have always got our reservations, including stays at the BWV's and BCV's during the busy last week of Food and Wine. Sometimes we used the waitlist at the 7 month window (own at SSR) but days always came in.
