Mad drama in my workplace kitchen today.

8:00 am. Someone steals co-worker A's unopened, still sealed carton of milk. Leaves empty carton in fridge. Co-worker A writes well thought out request on company web board, asking that whoever stole the milk please replace it and refrain from stealing again. She buys new milk.

10:00 am. Co-worker B checks on fridge. Someone has typed up a note that reads : "I took some of you milk" and taped it on co-worker B's milk. Co-worker B responds to Co-worker A's thread. concurring that it's very childish behavior. Building management is alerted.

12:00 noon. Building management lady posts sign on fridge saying that when the person responsible for the note is caught, they will be terminated per company guidelines on stealing.

2:00 pm. I am talking to co-worker C who sits right by the fridge. She says she has not seen anyone out of the ordinary at our fridge all day. She goes back to her desk, and I go to file room to put away some papers.

2:17 pm : I come back and there is a huge lot of people, including co-workers A,B and C in front of the fridge. Someone has handwritten a note (in green ink) that reads "*bleep* you, you can't fire what you can't catch" and taped it across the note from building management. Needless to say, people are shocked and confused since no one saw anyone out of the ordinary at the fridge. Building management lady comes back with VP of this division to confiscate the note.

2:25 pm : I respond to company web board and concur with co-workers A & B. I sit near the kitchen too, and I also have not seen anyone weird here all day. So it has to be a regular.

2:30 : In my shock and amazement that this childish behavior is occurring in a professional office environment, I take 2 minutes out of my day to share this bit of craziness on the DIS....

More later.

Anyone have cookies to go with the milk?

Wow. Someone has some serious issues. Yikes!!

Gives a whole new meaning to, "Got Milk?"

terminated over milk?

how childish can this person be?!?!!? "bleep you" that's so wrong.

heck - I had my lunch bag - WITH MY LUNCH STILL IN IT taken out of the fridge once...now I'm smart and have a really ugly/combersome/identifiable lunch bag...

although, people still steal my yogurt

My 2 previous jobs to this had a horrible problem with pilfering. We were licking our own bottles to prevent the germ freaks from stealing stuff.

And the job previous to that had a camera in the kitchen because people were stealing food. It wound up being the training dept supervisor's kids.

so it's YOU that likes that low-fat/skim milk stuff, eh?

I need to start eating less appetizing flavors of yogurt I guess...

There are no kids in the office at all. Not even visiting ones. Which is really sad. Because that means it is an adult.

I can't belive that someone would risk their job over milk

I know...now yogurt..that a different story :p

Wow, your management sure acts fast I can't imagine how long something like this would go on in my office before anything was done about it. But wasn't the termination notice a little over the top? I guess after the response left there's no choice once the person is caught but I think it was a little excessive.

OK, so it's immature. But, at least something interesting is going on at work. And it's keeping us entertained. I can't wait to find out who stole the milk. My guess it was Co-worker X, in the kitchen, with the giant bowl of cereal. :p

we have a chronic refrigerator thief too, only our company doesn't care. :(

"*bleep* you, you can't fire what you can't catch"

this had me :rotfl: ! i'm sure i wouldn't be laughing if i worked there, and i agree that it is very immature, but i thought it was funny since i'm not involved with the situation.

I can't believe this!

Okay after I thought about it for a minute I had to laugh and come up with some prevention/revenge ideas for you and your co-workers:

1. Open your milk containers and then reseal with tape before placing in refrigerator. If your milk bandit tampers with the tape and steals the milk, use your message board to let them know that you spit in the milk and really hope they enjoyed the backwash.

2. Purchse a few of those little containers used from expressed breast milk and start keeping you milk in those. That should make the milk bandit think twice!

Yes, I am advocating answering immature behavior with, well, immature behavior. Forgive me!:o

Just wondering, does the handwriting look familiar to anyone? Is the paper just run of the mill or something a little different?

That was some dare to catch him or her!

I mean, they actually brought in the company VP to investigate the note.

It's a slow day here, but I mean...

As far as the termination note, this kind of theft has been going on for a long time and they are finally fed up with it. A lot of people have been complaining.

I'd be grossed out taking someone else's food. Ick. Who knows what's in it, or if they've been drinking from the carton...

3:34 pm VP of division forms focus group on the milk caper.
2 days later, refrigerator is gone and corporate issues memorandum for each employee to bring in their own cooler. lol.

Ah, I feel for Co-worker C. I used to have the seat next to the fridge. It became the "watercooler" spot for everyone to bug me. I hope A and B aren't pointing the finger at C.

EsmeraldaX, thanks for the smile, and keep us posted.
