Totally confusing ticket question

I apologize in advance for being stupid when it comes to tickets. I have a 7-day hopper plus that I purchased 2 or 3 years ago from Dealpass that has never been used. I paid @$304 for it. With Disney's current system, will this ticket be subject to the biometric scan, rendering it good for only 1 person to use? I actually purchased the ticket for my children to "share" to fill in days after their AP expired so I would not have to renew the AP for 1 day in the parks. For example, my son(13) has an AP that will currently expire on May 28,2006. If we can sneak down to Disney for a long weekend over Memorial day, he would not have a pass to enter a park on the 29th. However, since I do not have any trips planned for the summer(and possibly not even the winter), I would rather not renew his AP on the 28th. I also do not relish the idea of purchasing a 1-day ticket at almost $70! My plan was to use a day off the 7-day ticket. If I cannot let more than 1 member of my family use the ticket, would it be wise to upgrade the ticket to a Premium Annual Pass? That is what we have been using for the past 4 years, but we all have different expiration dates(I spread out the purchases so I never have to buy more than 2 on each trip). Would I receive the $304 credit towards a Premium pass if I qualify for the DVC discount? If so,(and if I've done the happy math right), I would pay @$137 to upgrade the ticket. If this is even allowed, would this be a good use of the ticket? I would just bite the bullet and pay the $70 for the 1-day ticket for my son on the 29th, and save the 7-day hopper plus to upgrade on the next trip.
Also, I have a few old hopper plus tickets with water park visits left on them. Are these tickets subject to the biometric scan as well? I have 3 plus visits on 1 ticket, 2 plus visits on another ticket, and 1 plus on a third ticket. In the past, I have let friends of my children use the visits 1 day at a time, so we just needed to purchase park hopper tickets for them, and use the old plus visits to go to a waterpark during our trip. Will I still be able to do this?
Again, I apologize for the confusing questions. I've almost managed to confuse myself!

Officially WDW tix are NON-TRANSFERABLE (one person-ONLY).
The "scan-system" now makes the transfer practice virtually impossible.

If your old tix won't scan properly (they MIGHT) you will likely need to make a "trade" with your old tix converted into new "scanable" tix.

Either way, the person who uses it for the NEXT admittance will be the only authorized user.

Well, I'm sure you already know that you aren't allowed to 'share' tickets, so I won't go there.

Practically speaking, it depends. If your tickets are old enough, they'll need to be switched for newer tickets anyway, meaning biometric scans. I honestly don't know if old-but-not-so-old-they-need-to-be-replaced tickets would require you to go through the scan. I'm sure someone here does. :)

As far as upgrading the ticket, you should get credit for what you originally paid for the ticket minus anything you've used on it already. I'd call to make sure, but my guess would be that you could upgrade it to the DVC-discounted ticket you mention.

Thanks for the replies so far. I guess I misunderstood the old rules about non-tranferable tickets. When we used hoppers several years ago, our family sometimes used the ticket they started out with, and sometimes not. I purchased 5-day hoppers for a trip 4 years ago, and there were only 4 different designs on the front, and we had 6 tickets. Inevitably, 2 people in our party of 6 would have the same design on their tickets, so there really was no way to be sure we all used the same ticket every day. I purchased the 7-day hopper to use for my family, not to sell on e-bay, give to a relative, etc. I did not realize I was breaking any rules by letting 2 different people in the same immediate family use the ticket on different trips. At the time I purchased the ticket, it was a "gray" area at best. If I understand the new tickets correctly, if I purchased 6 5-day hoppers now at once, and activated them at the same time, all 6 tickets would recognize the biometric scan of all 6 members of my family, so I would not be violating any rules if I forgot which design was on the front of my ticket(and did not sign it). I guess the big question is this: are ALL tickets subject to the biometric scan now? If so, then my ticket would be linked to the first person who used it, and my left-over plus visits will be practically useless. Thanks for all the help!

Yep. That's about it.

If your tickets do not have the magnetic strip at the top, that's the only time you'd need to make any kind of switch. Otherwise, you would simply use the ticket as it is. You WILL need to do the biometric scan, and they will have you sign the back of the ticket - even though there's not a signature spot.

If this ticket you've got is completely UNused, you can go ahead and upgrade it. I'm not sure how much the ticket will be worth, but you should be able to receive your DVC discount.

I'm pretty sure (but not positive) that the biometric scans are done ONLY at the four major theme parks. I don't think they do them at te water park, and I think you'll be able to go ahead and use the tickets the way you described.

In August TL used the biometric scanners when I used an older hopper ticket with some pluses left. You can have friends use the older unscanned tickets at the water parks but once used the remaining pluses have to be used by the same person. It may not be an issue if you have old tickets with only 1 or 2 pluses left on them.

I don't think Disney uses biometric scanning with children's tickets but it sounds like your kids are too old.

I don't suggest people buy tickets on ebay so I'm not really comfortable suggesting you sell your unused ticket but it might be worth more than you'll get from Disney with an upgrade. Your credit might be passed on what Dealpass paid Disney and not what you paid dealpass. Used to be that way.
