Total Nightmare @ Disney

From your knowledge, since you are CM, does anyone pay attention to comments in survey. I experienced a lazy mousekeeper last trip but only for 2 first days, then she changed to someone else. I never complained, it was not worth going all the way to front desk in CBR, I do not need respond nor compensation of any kind, just want to let them know of situation. So I was going to mention it in my survey. What do you think about it?
Thanks.

I'm not the poster who wrote what you're responding to - but that's the kind of thing I always address while there.

We were finally told our room was ready at about 3:15 or so. I think we were at Whole Foods, near Universal, when we found out, so it took a minute to get back to the room. Plus, when we arrived, I grabbed ALL of our luggage, which was quite a bit. It couldn't have been before 3:45 pm before I went into the room. When I did go in, the mousekeeper was in there still cleaning.

Now I was aggrevated, but it was certainly something I could work with. Until she opened her mouth. And proceeded to give me attitude. It was clear she was slacking, and called in that the room was complete to make the 3:00 deadline and was ticked that I was back before she could finish.

I really was very nice, despite being really annoyed. I told her she could finish up, I just wanted to leave the bags instead of lugging them back to the car. This is when she started giving me attitude and told me she wanted to vacuum. So I mentioned I'd just leave them on the bed. Got a big old huff and a "Fine!".

If when I asked if I could leave the bags, she would have just said: "Sure!", no harm, no foul. But that attitude pushed me RIGHT over the top.

Went down to the front desk IMMEDIATELY. And I told the manager I spoke to flat out that I wanted NOTHING. I wasn't seeking anything. I wanted to let them know about the issue so they could work with her and other housekeepers to make sure that situation didn't happen to someone else. The manager insisted on compensating. I reinforced that it really wasn't necessary, but she basically said she had access to the computer and would do it irrespective. She cut the room rate by 50% for the night I think, and told me to take the family out for a nice dinner on the resort.

We had not ONE housekeeping issue the rest of the week, and the housekeeper was very pleasant the rest of the week.

That incident taught me 2 things. 1.) Tell someone while you're there. It's FAR too easy for stuff to get lost in the Disney beaurocracy and different divisions and levels of management after you get home. 2.) They do take guest complaints seriously.

Long story short? I'd say something now. :)

What more could Disney do than what they already did? I'm thinking I'd be happy with the upgrade, even though the first day would have really been a pain especially with a 2yr old.

The OP had a problem while on vacation. I count time missed at the parks as pretty serious, as that's pretty much the whole reason most people vacation at WDW. However, the OP's problem was resolved and he/she received an upgrade for the inconvenience.

This still qualifies as a "NIGHTMARE" that needs to be reported both on the message boards and to Disney corporate?

As a PP stated, it stands to reason that an upgrade from a value resort to a DVC villa would have to be pre-approved by someone in upper management, so I'm thinking they are aware of the situation.

This is a regrettable error on Disney's part, which it sounds like they attempted to ameliorate.

I don't get it?!?!? Maybe I'm just tired of all of the negative posts on these boards lately. Just isn't fun anymore...

Just a general comment now that we have more info:

Would anyone question the OP, ask why they did not look on Google or call them a troll if it was their third post and they said it was great and they wanted to send a compliment letter? JS

Given the definition of a Troll....
n Internet slang, a troll is someone who posts inflammatory, extraneous, or off-topic messages in an online community, such as an online discussion forum, chat room, or blog, with the primary intent of provoking other users into a desired emotional response[1] or of otherwise disrupting normal on-topic discussion
...... no I wouldn't.

You know darn well that a thread about what a good time is NOT going to slide down the same way as one that says screams "disney nightmare"

ITA with this, and others who have said similar things. I've come across issues while at Disney - as I have on other vacations. I go immediately to management -- before anyone has a chance to "stew" in it, and while they can still remedy the situation if necessary. I have personally always had a positive resolution when approaching it this way. Having worked in the hotel biz for a stint, I know this is the best way to approach it - anywhere, not just at Disney. As someone else said, hotels want to fix it and make you happy while you're still there.

Well since the OP didn't tell about the nightmare they had, I can tell about mine that happened over 10 years ago...

We had a rental car that got broken into and EVERYTHING we had got stolen.

My wife (GF at the time) and I along with another couple were visiting friends that were staying on property(All Star). We drove from Sarasota, FL. and arrived at WDW in the evening. We decided to go straight out and wanted to do something fun, so we decided to go play mini golf. Man what a dump that was.

So we parked, went to play, and got back to the car. We didn't notice until we got back to the hotel. We opened up the trunk and bamn. Nothing was there. We started checking for signs and sure enough, there was a drillhole in the keyhole of the passenger's side door. We immediately felt like absolute crap.

The took all our clothes, backpacks, pillows/blankets, DVD's, CD's, mini DVD player, glasses, a cellphone, etc. Everything we had in the trunk was gone... and we had everything we brought in the trunk. that's why we didn't notice right away.

We felt totally violated. We called the police, Disney didn't want any part of it. they did nothing for us and said there were no cameras where we were. It totally ruined our trip.

We didn't go back to Disney for 2 years and the next time we went I still had a sour taste in my mouth. What a bad trip.

This sucks no matter how you look at it but....

I'm not sure what you expected Disney to do. Unless you can show that it was their negligence that led to the theft, they are not responsible.

I'm curious as to what was a dump? Was it the hotel or the minigolf place?

Op, I'm sorry you went through that! YIKES! Hope you have a more magical experience next trip!

That is a truly awful experience, but they GAVE YOU A VILLA AT A DELUXE AS AN APOLOGY.

You said you had an awful 10 days. You had an awful 2 days and then 8 awesome days. I would try to see the bright side here.

I don't know, maybe the first two days of her trip completely ruined the remaining eight days of her trip? Either way, she got a villa!

Too many complaints on the boards these days. I don't even have a trip planned. I come here for fun. But lately it isn't much fun...

I certainly sympathize with the OP on their first few days..it must have felt like a total disaster having issues popping up with every move they made. It's good they stepped up and upgraded them to a villa at SSR, that was the right thing to do.

What would be interesting to know is how the rest of the trip went for the OP. Did their KTTW work properly from that point on? Was their stay at SSR good? Was their time in the parks magical?

While it's easy as an outsider to say 'gee, they got a fantastic upgrade so that makes it all right', the OP can't go back in time and do their first couple of days over. It must have been maddening with the AC, tix, ddp, room keys having issues.

WOW! Good for you! We had housekeeping at the WL that was lousy. After coming back from the parks at 3:45 p.m. our room still WAS NOT MADE UP! That is when we switched resorts to the Yacht Club, which in fact was AWESOME! I do not know why housekeeping is not consistant, but it isn't. And it's a shame!

Two things about hotels that come to mind.

1. Disney gave us a room at Pop that was already occupied. Oops. Embarrassing!
2. A local radio lady here was away with her husband and the hotel gave their room to somebody else and those somebody elses walked in on her blowdrying her hair. Naked.

She was so humiliated. Her husband went to the front desk and complained. They said "don't worry we are REALLY sorry and the bill will reflect that but the adjustment will come through the day after you check out."

Anyone want to know what it cost to see her naked? What the hotel thought was a fair compensation???

$15. Yup ~ they took $15 off the bill. She wouldn't say the hotel on the radio.

I'll take the hot night and two bedroom villa compensation over giving two men a peep show for $15.

My point is some people wanted to pile on this person only because it seemed they had a bad experience.

I know it happens, but I don't think this was the case here. I think people reacted to 1) angry smilie & "nightmare", 2) with no details, 3) asking for info easily found using Google, and 4) poster with only 3 posts total.

That, and the overall context on the board these days, I think... seems like lots of negativity... more than I remember when I first joined. Maybe that will get better as more people post that they feel it's gone overboard... :confused3

Unbelievable!!!!!!!!!!! I would have told them what to do with that $15.00! LOL!

My point is if someone came in and said something like Disney is the best thing ever and only wanted the address they would not be questioned.
Ten people would have given them the address and say I agree.

I really do not think ANYONE would have asked them why they did not use Google.

I do not think they would have been questioned about what is so great and I do not think that those who disagree would show up just to punch holes in the story and pick it apart like when someone has a complaint.

It is important to listen to both sides and not just attack the ones who do not agree with you.

I always feel like people want to blame the victim when they had a bad stay at Disney.
I have had great stays at Disney and stays that were beyond awful. It happens.

I agree that the first 2 days were a nightmare, but being moved from a value resort to a DVC villa? That was more that adequate compensation. They took care of you while you were still there. I see no reason to write a letter now. I'm sure that management was involved in your problem already & that is the reason for the wonderful free upgrade.

Our one bad experience:

Honeymoon, May of 2002. We booked our vacation through Disney, 7 days, staying at CBR. As part of the package, we ordered a town car to pick us up from MCO and take us to the resort...something a little nice for our honeymoon. The driver picked us up on time, but had no idea how to get to CBR. I am not exaggerating when I say we were driving around on Disney property for over an hour before we reached the resort. Mind you, this was a town car Disney had set up for us as part of our package, not a service we did seperately.

Our 1st morning there we had reservations for Chef Mickeys. We were promised that a bus would take us there for our early reservations. We stood at the bus stop, with another couple, for about 90 minutes and no bus came. We missed our breakfast and it ruined our entire morning.

Now these 2 things aren't the end of the world, but it certainly got our trip off to a bad start.

NOW THE GOOD:

After we realized our bus wasn't coming, we headed back to our room to calm down, as we were quite upset. We decided to head over to Epcot, and yes a bus did show up. We went over to guest relations in Epcot 1st thing, we were still upset. They immediately upgraded us to the Polynesian and gave us a free meal at Le Cellier. This obviously appeased us greatly, and the rest of the trip was awesome.
