With a MacBook Pro, iPad and iPhone, I've gone farther to the dark side (yes, I know I'm mixing my SciFi references) than I planned or anticipated.

But I'm drawing the line with iTunes. Since downloading Mavericks, iTunes has hung up my MacBook Pro (not just iTunes but the whole MacBook Pro) whenever I try to download any file from the iTunes Store. Podcast, App or Movie, doesn't matter.

I'm fairly sure it is something to do with storing a massive amount of sound and video files on a networked Windows 7 hard drive, but Mountain Lion didn't object, not too strenuously.

So, the irony is that to get iTunes to work (at all) I'm having to run it on my Windows 7 computer.

Jack, you've actually come to the light side. :thumbsup2

Don't know what's up with your iTunes problem though. I've got >4k songs total ~40GB on my MBP without any problem. Suggest you re-install iTunes (you won't loose any data).

I've reinstalled iTunes twice. I've also done a fresh install of Mavericks. This is something Mavericks or iTunes 11.?? changed. Those are the only variables.

I have 410 Gb in my iTunes library so it won't come close to fitting on my MacBook Pro or the external hard drive I use to back up photos taken while traveling.

Can't think of what else you might need to do Jack.

Checking the various online sources I see a suggestion about unchecking the option to automatically download album art but that would only affect you for a while until everything was caught up. I'll do some further research.

I'm baffled too - I think its a drive mapping issue caused by the revisions to the power algorithms.

I thought about trying to reverse the polarity but that would only confuse it.

I hope these sentences are a joke ... because I could do was laugh. These words are not comprehensible to my brain. And I thought I was a little bit savvy :lmao:

Yep. I watched way too much Doctor Who this weekend.

Yeah, the only Apple products I use are my iPad and iTunes. I have almost 40k songs, and sadly haven't found an app that handles that many easily.

Jack, there is an inherit problem in Windows 7, yes Windows 7, that involves Microsoft's new version of File Sharing (SMB2). Microsoft also redesigned how it does the entire TCP stack.

I would suggest, on Windows 7, doing the following to correct your issue.

To disable SMBv2 and SMBv3 on the SMB client, run the following commands:

  • sc.exe config lanmanworkstation depend= bowser/mrxsmb10/nsi
  • sc.exe config mrxsmb20 start= disabled

To enable SMBv2 and SMBv3 on the SMB client, run the following commands:

  • sc.exe config lanmanworkstation depend= bowser/mrxsmb10/mrxsmb20/nsi
  • sc.exe config mrxsmb20 start= aut

Interesting, I'll try this when I get home.
