ToT Walk-through Without Riding?

Glad to hear this. I've always heard such great things about the decoration in the "hotel" never thought about chickening out at the end. Might just have to try when I'm there in August.

I personally love the ride but I can understand people who have a problem with it. But one of the things I most love about the ride (and Expedition Everest too) is the theming in the line. It's one that has most impressed me in the past and I love to spend the time looking at all of the details that they've put into it. If you're OK to "chicken" out at the end without feeling intimidated, I'd highly recommend the walk through the line.

...only joking. I know they wouldn't *actually* do that. And thanks, Disnut! Great to know, will have my camera ready!

Not quite 100% pure but I don't think you are allowed to take photography even in the alternative exit areas. Ask the Cast Member in the other elevator.

Also - for those who do need to do this and want to set up a meeting point with their riding family members, it's very easy to scope out the place. Before you board, go into the gift shop area and to the back of the shop to where the photo exhibit area is. Walk past the "desk" there and then look to the right. There will be a hallway (you might have to move around those exiting the ride) and you'll see benches right there. That's where the non rider will be shown to after their non lethal elevator ride. Then they wait maybe ten minutes until the doors open and the others come out of the lethal elevators. And those benches are a blast. In my times of sitting there, I saw one lethal elevator open up and a bunch of burly looking guys came out with a bunch of younger kids. The kids were screaming - "We want to go back, we want to go back!" and the burly guys were saying, "never again, never again." Saw one young girl come out, slap her dad's arm and shout, "you said that was going to be FUN! and I thought it would be too but NEVER AGAIN!"

So, while you are sitting there, you might want to hold up a park map to your face because you might be laughing a bit.

Aw, no pictures?? What a bummer!
As for the non-stereotyped reactions, I work in a haunted house & know full well that kids & teenagers can be stonefaced brave, while huge, grown men can be shrill-shrieking, running away as fast as they can :)

Wow. My DD5 was absolutely not getting on that ride, but she was curious and wanted to see the Hotel. I'm glad I didn't take her through the queue, she would have freaked out once they put us into the 'chickened out elevator' ...and for the record, no, I'm not a fan of the ride either. I'm a huge Twilight Zone fan, so I rode it once. I'm good now.

If you just want to go through the queue without riding the ride, do you know how many stories the ride up in the elevator or the ride down in the elevator is? The reason I ask is that my mom has trouble with her ears at higher altitudes. Sometimes elevator rides that are very high really bother her.

If she doesn't want to ride all the way up and do the drop, the non lethal elevator is one floor down. The queue is all on the same level and then the riders go up "13 flights" and the non riders go down one floor. You can easily see the height of the ride from the outside. And to mention, the "lethal" elevator is enclosed. Well, except for an instance. :)

We have had many people over the years walk the queue with us and then take the alternate elevator and wait for us at the benches. All of them loved the queue and pre-show experience, and they enjoyed really looking at the neat stuff in the area where the ride lets out.
