Hello!
This post is a slight vent, sorry, but have to get it out of my system. ;)
I was planning to run my second half marathon at this year's Wine and Dine, had tentatively scheduled time off (some of us have to do this way in advance) and begun making plans for the last weekend in Sept-as the race date had already been announced. Let me say that I LOVED the timing of Wine and Dine, it was the kickoff for the Food and Wine Festival, Halloween was going on in the MK, and I like the night races. And after a pretty lousy after party in 2010, they really did a great post race party this year (well, except for the video feed of the start).
Then they announced the Tower of Terror 10 miler to take place the last weekend in Sept, and while this sounds like a cool race, why is not around Halloween? As a villain themed race ought to be!
It is a night race, and I'd planned to be at WDW that weekend, so I'll probably run it. But...how annoying that they've moved the Wine and Dine to Veterans Weekend, and the last weekend of Food and Wine fest-it'll be packed! And will they really watch out so the after race party isn't hugely oversold (as it was in 2010-when nothing was open for the mass amounts of guests)? Are they trying to kill off the Wine and Dine?
Okay, vent over. Happy Sunday everyone!

I hope they're not getting rid of it. My goal is to do every race, and while i'm super pumped because i love ToT and its my favorite ride, i wish i can do both in the future. I'm planning on doing the ToT race next year, but i just wish they had more details now, but i guess i can wait til the 14th when they release it.

I hope they don't get rid of it too. I'd wanted to run it but can't take that much time off to be in Florida for two race weekends that close together. This year, it might have to be ToT, and I really hope they don't keep the Wine and Dine at the close of Food and Wine...that weekend is way too packed already.

They certainly are trying to offer all things for many people. I know that change is supposed to be good. I wonder if they will ever have a good fit as they do for Marathon weekend.

Disney just can't win when it comes to scheduling races. One of the most common complaints on the runDisney site is having races when people can't get off work, or take the kids out of school, etc. Yet, when they move a race to a weekend when many people have Monday off, all they get is complaining that the parks will be crowded. Not every race is going to work for every person.

Well, the crowds are only part of it. The changing of the race date after it had already been announced is more annoying.
I don't know why they couldn't leave the Wine and Dine alone and have the new race on a different date.

i would've thought it would be better closer to Halloween, if its based off a spooky attraction like ToT. I was shocked when i saw the dates.

I don't think they are trying to get rid of W&D Half and only listed to people who wanted the Tower of Terror 10-miler back. It's a shame that they had to move things around, nevertheless I understand your frustration.

The change in dates was a lucky surprise for me. I was planning on being there the new Wine & Dine 1/2 Marathon weekend.

I was looking at info from the last couple of races and am concerned about how people get to/from the race. I won't have a car, although I'll be staying on property.

I saw people shared cabs TO the race, but what about after?

Anyone know when they will have info on the site about the race details?

ToT Reg opens in Feb so I would expect Wine&Dine to open a month or two later? As we get closer to them opening more info will be made available. W&D has hosts resorts and if you stay at those specific resorts your race day transportation to and from your resort is covered.

Right. That's my issue. Which resorts will have the transportation. I saw the list from last year and the one I would stay at is on the list, so maybe it's safe to assume it will be again this year, but who knows?

If you are thinking All Star or a Boardwalk area resort(Boardwalk, Beach, Yacht, Swan, Dolphin), then you are really safe.

No, I w/b at OKW, which was added as a host resort last year, after not being one in 2010.

Worst case is that the resort is not a host and you would need to hail a cab. I just pointed at the ones I did as there is always one of the family that are a host.

I have never complained about a race being on an inconvenient weekend for me. But I AM unhappy about the change in dates, because W&D dates had already been advertised. I was scheduling other races around those dates.

You can't throw together a race of this magnitude on a whim, so I'm sure they knew about the ToT possibility - they should have just not advertised the W&D dates.

I am one of the ones that was thrilled about the schedule change. We had already planned to be down there that weekend for a family trip so this worked out great for me.

As a school teacher it is hard to get down there for these races and take time off, so having it on a holiday weekend is better for me. Like the others said, Disney is never going to please everyone.

I was excited about the announcement of the ToT run. I was planning on being at WDW the week before for a vacation, but I am seriously thinking about bumping our plans back a week to run. I haven't decided completely. I was hoping for some kind of 10 miler about then since I'm planning on running my first 1/2 marathon in January at Disney. Sorry to all of you who wanted the Wine and Dine 1/2 that weekend, but this really works nicely for me! I live in Nebraska and coming to Disney AND getting to race will be really awesome. BTW, TOT is my second favorite attraction right behind HM. I'm a fan of the macabre.

I am doing the Royal Family 5K next month and training for the ToT 10 mile. We have formed a team with the DHS fan website Studios Central as a fundraiser for Give Kids the World. If you would like tojoin our team and help this great organization you can see the details here: http://www.firstgiving.com/fundraiser/teamstudioscentral/teamstudioscentral
Aaron the administrator of the group often writes blogs for the Dis, his username is ADP.
Very excited and very nervous about this one, my main goal is just to finish it and then have some fun at DHS with the Villains.
