I've read that you can experience some of the special effects and theming for TOT before you take the chicken exit. Do you get to see most of the show before exiting, or do the best special effects take place AFTER you board the elevator?

I really want to try this ride, but I just can't seem to get past the drops!

You will see and feel more of the atmosphere, rather than effects. But if you don't feel comfortable with the ride, at least go through the first half and just take the chicken exit.

Last week we took my six-year old niece on her first ride on Tower of Terror - she was finally tall enough to go on the ride! Her mom will not ride TOT, but the second time we went through mom came with us & then left via the chicken exit. You get to go through the hotel, see the short film & walk through the basement.

You can also use chicken exits on other rides like Rock 'n Roller Coaster, Space Mountain, Splash Mountain, Big Thunder Mountain, etc.

Enjoy!

Thanks for the info. I guess if a six year old can take it, I should be able to!

Everything before the actual ride is mostly theming(which is quite good). If you do decide to go on the ride itself, then you'll experience some of the neat effects.

i remember when this ride first opened...i was such a big chicken!! i wouldn't go anywhere's near it!!! but after 2 trips there, my sister made me go on it and i can't believe i never wanted to ride it to begin with!!! it's my favorite ride there!!!

hopefully you'll be able to get through the ride...it's so much fun!! but if you can't bring yourself to board the elevator, then at least go through the line area and then take the chicken exit. the detail of the queue is amazing...

The theming inside the hotel is wonderful - it gets especially creepy when you get into the boiler room. At this point you can go out the chicken exit - but DON'T! The amazing special effects are experienced in the elevator - they will simply knock your socks off - you can't miss it.:D

Okay, I'll start mustering up the courage now so that by the time I get there, maybe I won't take the chicken exit.

I will never get on those outdoor drop rides that you see in amusement parks. Is it less frightening to be indoors when you drop, because you're not seeing the ground below you?

Don't feel bad - I rode ToT once and will never, ever ride it again. I found out that vertical drops just aren't my bag, but you couldn't drag me off of RnRC if you tried. I could ride that all day.
