ToT... is it bad?

I've only recently (in the past couple of years or so) worked up the courage to go on tame rollercoasters like Space Mt, BTMRR, RnR and Splash Mt. I've never done ToT because I've been too scared, but I think this year I'm finally going to do it....

How bad is it? I don't mind going fast, but I'm not a big fan of drops (I'll do Splash, but I don't enjoy that final drop by any means... even Pirates makes me nervous). I've heard they drop you over and over again on ToT? Can someone describe what the ride is like so I can decide whether or not I really want to do it? Thanks,

ToT is my favorite ride, with RnR a close second. You are seated in a car of about 25 people with seatbelts. It does drop you over and over but it's a neat feeling, almost weightless. If you can take RnR you should be OK on ToT, I think RnR is very intense.

I second the weightlessness feeling. It's not like drop like in Splash Mountain where you feel everything.

I'm not afraid of ToT, but DS who was almost 6 in August rode it for the first time and DH hates it cause it makes him sick to his stomach. You are seated in long rows with just a lap belt so you kind of raise off your seat slightly during the drops. The ride also "shoots" you up really fast to get to the dropping point. They seem to have different types of drops (some higher than others) and of course when I rode it alone I seemed to have only one high drop but with DS that seemed like all we had! He survived but swears he'll never do it again (I couldn't believe he wanted to do it in the first place!). I guess the thing I like least about it is that I'd like to feel more secure in the seat. You are in a "cage" type thing that drops so it has a roof. I don't remember anything to hold on to (like a bar in front or beside of you) but perhaps I'm wrong. Those are just the downsides!

Have you ever been riding in a car when all of a sudden, you go over a bump in the road and it feels like your stomach just did a flip flop? That's how ToT feels only more intense and more times. You actually lift off the seat and sort of float for a millasecond. It's a unique and fun ride. Both my DH and I are in our late 50's and ToT is the reason we go to MGM.

We don't do roller coasters except for the ones at the Magic Kingdom (SplM, BTMR but not SM) and definitely not RnRC but we really enjoy ToT. I too hate the drop in SplM but it's worth it for the ride. The drop in ToT is nothing like that one.

I think you should try it at least once and see how you like it. There is a bar you can hang onto but most of the riders just let themselves go. There is a chicken elevator when you get to the actual ride so if you do decide not to go on, you can leave but you'll be able to see all the neat theming. We've talked a few people into going and the next thing we know, they're in line again to go a second time.

This was the one ride my husband REALLY wanted to do on our trip over New Years. We live in Atlanta so we've been to Six Flags here a bunch and I *hate* Free Fall here (basically it's one big drop, no themed stuff etc.). My parents were with us so they did other stuff at MGM with the kids while we rode this and RnR. I was not looking forward to it but I actually did enjoy it! The drops, even the big ones, are pretty quick. Unlike Free Fall it's a smooth ride. I did have one of the 2 seats that had a hand hold thingy in front of me (I think it's used for the CMs to open the front "door" platform thing by hand if need be). It was the seat one in from the aisle in the middle on the front row. If you are there at a non-busy time, you could ask the cm to seat you in one of those seats. There are bars to grab onto between the seats but only one person cold hold them so if the person next to you grabs it first, you are out of luck (maybe it's different in other seats and mine was like that b/c of the thing in front of me?). The themeing is really neat as are the effects. I'd say it's worth a try! :)

Do it at least once for the theme. I really dont' care for the drops but I love the theme and to get all the effects you have to do the ride.

This is a wonderful ride, both for the actual ride and the theming. The last time I went on this ride was with my sister. It's when ToT have the lap bars instead of the seatbelts and we were seated next to another couple. The man was rather large and my sister, without thinking, told him to "suck it in" when the lap bar was being lowered. His wife thought it was very funny and we all got a good laugh.

Personally, I think it is a great ride--and I will not normally do high altitude rides. My mother came on a family trip with us a few years back and did Rock N Rollercoaster, Tower of Terror, Splash Mountain, Space Mountain, and more with us at the age of 62. My kids thought they had the "coolest" grandmother after that!

Ok, I'm gonna go against the crowd here. I do not like this ride. Yes, it is VERY cool visually, and the attention to detail in the hotel is incredible. But my body cannot take this ride.

I'm ok during, but after - my legs are like jello, and I'm shaking all over. I can't stand that feeling, so I'm not going on it again. I did like it back when it was only 1 drop. That didn't bother me so much.

Go on it at least once just to experience it. You may love it! :)

Thanks everyone, I appreciate the info. I'm glad to hear quite a few of you think it's a different type of drop than Splash Mt, since I really don't care for it (even though I go on the ride everytime I'm there haha--to appease the people I'm with). I think I'm going to do it... even if I do chicken out, I think the people I'll be with will pressure me into doing it anyway! Ah, the wonders of peer pressure.... lol!
