Tortuga Tavern?

Can anyone report on eating recently at Tortuga? Hoping to catch it open during our October trip- have never eaten there...

My DH had been trying to eat here for years ,when it was called Pirate and Parrot. It was always closed. Last week, we mananged to hit it right and it was open. He enjoyed it. He said it was pretty good and that he would eat there again. I think he had a beef burrito.

I've eaten at Pirata y el Perico, which is what Tortuga Tavern used to be. The menu is still the same. Everything I've had there is good, pretty standard Tex Mex. Not a hugely varied menu, but what makes it great is the toppings bar. The taco salad is the best value. You can load up on salsa, lettuce, cheese, etc.

Ate there in March. They closed at 3pm while we were there. Had nachos, taco salad, and cheese quesadia (sp). We all enjoyed it. The toppings bar helped.

Do they have the melted cheese and sauteed mushrooms/onions that Pecos does? Pecos Bill's has that taco salad (I assume the same of TOrtuga has) and I put those 3 things on the taco salad along with the lettuce, salsa etc...and it is sooo fantastic and very filling...

We've eaten there several times over the years. It's the same type of mexican items we have at the ASMo food court. As such, the taco shell salad is always my faveIt's got a huge seating area and so nice to sit down and relax a bit. I describe it as more taco bell than authentic cuisine, but good.
wander down the street a bit and you get Pecos Bills which is the burger equivalent
