Tortola?

Sorry, I tried to upload a few pictures but was not successful. The tightest spots are if you are going from the Baths to Devil's Bay. The initial spot to lead you there is very tight and narrow. Adults either have to "duck" walk through or crawl. You do not have to go to Devil's Bay. The walk down to the Baths from the top isn't to narrow but is is rough & rocky. My son used his GOPro for a few minutes as we were walking down, I will see if he can get some images.

You can take another trail down to Devil's Bay and avoid the caves - we went down one way and came back the other and then did it again after lunch. My family of 4 was just there on Saturday and we explored all over (wish I had actually gotten some pictures of the caves and the baths - too busy exploring).

Flip flops are more than sufficient - we went in our bare feet and were just fine.

Please report back if you can ASAP. We sail Jan 16th.

The baths were nice. We felt that we had ample time and were not rushed at all. This is a pretty active excursion - the baths that is. You've got to be in good shape for this. You're going to be crawling on your knees, climbing rocks and wading through water. And that's all to simply get to the beach. Once you're at the beach all you've to do is relax!

I wouldn't try with children under 5 or with elderly unless you want to take the walk around the baths to the beach. Husband and I did this just fine though. :)

Do you think there would be a big difference between and a 4 and 5 year on being able to do it?

Thank you so much! It was awesome. But now I'm really confused as I've heard so many people say it was physically strenuous and it seemed you were able to walk it with a camera. Please let me know.

Thanks again!

I am not sure, but from what I have read, the strenuous part is Before the area that is shown. I have read that it is a steep, slippery descent down a hill to get to this point (and back up at the end.) I think that is where the fear for elderly, bad knees, etc comes in. Perhaps someone will correct me if this is wrong.

I would like to go and am in pretty good shape, but I do have arthritis, so I am still researching before I decide. slipping down a mountain path does not sound like much fun, but I hate to miss a geological wonder...

We will be on the April 23rd cruise to Tortola. It's our first cruise ever! I am trying to do research and I came across the Baths...looks amazing. I will have a 6&8 year old with me. Is it something that's appropriate for that age level?

A group of us will be on the April 23 to Tortola too. Traveling with 9,7,7,4 year olds

do you plan on trying the Baths with the kids? I think we are.

We haven't decided what to do on St.Thimas yet- Maybe Meagan's Bay.

As of now we are planning to take our 3 and 5 year olds to the baths if we can find a good charter.

In St. Thomas we are going to Coral World.

We were thinking about Coral World but I've heard mixed reviews on it. Are you booking this on your own or using DCL?

We did coral world last year with our 9 and 10 year olds. We were in St. Thomas visiting in laws and they recommended as something they like to do. Their kids are toddlers. As WDW vets our kids were not super impressed with coral world and we wouldn't go back for sure. My son did like the bird exhibit (but he is crazy for birds for some reason!!), and DH and the kids did the swim with a sea lion and liked it. Sister in law likes the turtle swim. It struck me as a so-so very small aquarium, personally, but that's just one take. :)

Not sure if we are going to do the Bath's yet. We went to Megan's Bay last time and loved it so we are going to do it again.

Haven't totally decided yet....

I think for 3 and 5, Coral World with the Semi-Sub will be right up our kids' alley.

When I read about Magen's Bay the reviewer said that were packed like sardines on the beach. That put me off it. Was that your experience? I am planning to do Snorkeling excursion but now that DS8 is coming along, 4 hours of snorkeling mightbe a bit much and beach sounds better...?

Can someone who has taken either the Day at the Baths or Tour of Virgin Gorda let us know if the only difference is truly the lunch?

We took the one without lunch -- I think the only difference is lunch, though the one with lunch may be longer.

Can you tell me how difficult the excursion is? We would like my in-laws to tag along, but they are in their seventies, one with a bad knee. She gets around fine, and leads an active life, but I don't want to risk an injury mid-cruise.

Thanks!

Chris

I would love it if someone would post a picture of the tightest space and the toughest place to make it through. That would help me gauge things. Thanks in advance.

I posted several pics on this thread -- including the two tightest spaces: http://www.disboards.com/threads/how-difficult-is-virgin-gorda-at-tortola.3476689/

Is this the Baths to Devils Bay?

The beginning is the path down to the Baths which you can see around 3:28 -- then it goes through some of the Caves and the end around 6:17 is Devil's Bay

When we visit Magen's bay it was not crowded at all. I looked through my pictures but I didn't take any of the beach or the grounds. Might have been the day we were there that other ships were not in port, not sure.

My 8 & 10 year olds liked the Semi-Sub and Coral World ... it's not a big aquarium, but it suits the amount of time you have on the excursion.

We are joining a Patouche tour next week which includes the Baths. We have DD 8 & 6 years old. They are veteran swim team members. I will let you know about the experience. This is a swim to shore at the Baths, but the Captain said he could tow the younger child if necessary.

I am VERY interested in hearing how the Patouche experience was and all the details. I have looked into them as well for a May 2016 cruise to eastern Caribbean with my dh and 3 kids. Please let me know! Thanks
