Tortola Excursion Reviews

<snip>but I will happily bring my sneakers AND socks!!!! Even with sand on my feet, they would be more comfortable than watershoes or sandals.

Just a hint, if you bring a small travel bottle of baby powder, the baby powder will get rid of the sand before you put your socks and shoes back on.
It looks/sounds weird, but works like a charm.

We did the Island Tour, Beach & Lunch excursion through Disney on Tortola: Our driver was Courtney and he was very knowledgeable and accommodating, stopping when we asked for photos. I was surprised that there was cactus on the island. The lunch was delicious and Cane Garden Beach was beautiful. One thing that I will note here is that the isles on the bus were made for people who are a size 10 or below because my size 12 had to squeeze a little to get through. ......

I am very curious about the tour bus now...I am a plus size gal....were all the tour buses like this??? We have this tour booked as well..should I consider cancelling it??? :confused3

thanks for any info...

I would do this tour again. The buses that we used were enclosed mini buses that sat 4 people per row, 2 on each side with an isle in between. They were not the open air buses that I have seen in some of the other pictures. There are 4 or 5 rows of seats and there are some jump seats behind the driver and the driver's passenger seat. The front row and driver's passenger seat would certainly be the most comfortable for a plus size person. I mentioned it because I think a few of us were surprised at how compact the bus was and I thought that it made a few of us uncomfortable squeezing between the narrow isle seats. It didn't deter from the tour of course, and I did fill out an excursion evaulation form letting Disney know how I felt. The buses were fairly new and comfortable otherwise and again, our driver, Courtney, and the lunch were awesome.

We are doing this excursion on Tortola as well. Loved your pictures!

Thank you.:flower3: They are very personalized and not as detailed as others I have seen, but I like them too!

I'm still uploading all my photos from the cruise but my photos from Tortola are up:

Again, we went shopping in Road Town and then did the Tour to Virgin Gorda excursion which includes The Baths!

Enjoy!

Rebecca, wonderful pictures! I wish I had taken more of the area but glad to have a lot of family shots.

Thanks to all who posted pics! It is exciting to get a sneak peek!!

I have questions for those who went to Cane Garden Bay or Brewers Bay.

First of all, about how long was the drive over?

Were there vendors who rented snorkeling equipment, or other water sports?

Thanks for the information!:)

The Island Tour, Beach & Lunch drive was about 20-25 minutes there and the same coming back, via a different route. The driver was very accommodating in pulling over for pictures, naming the outlying islands and the history and current owners and tidbits. We also stopped next to a dolphin swim excursion and were able to take photos from the bus if we liked. Myetts is the name of the Garden and Grille where we had lunch on the tour http://www.myettent.com/ And I will say that the lunch was delicious. The ribs and the dressing on the salad were beyond wonderful, I truely enjoyed both dishes. There were also beach chairs for the Disney guests. There were no rental facilities down in our area of the beach. There were a few tourist vendors selling a variety of souvenir items and clothing up on the roadside next to Myetts. There also is a gift shop on the property. I think I read that you can rent beach umbrellas, but we didn't seek one out.

We did not notice anyone renting snorkel equipment as I don't think this is a snorkel area?:confused3 We also did not notice floaties or anything like that being rented, but we weren't looking for them. Looking at our pictures, I don't notice any water sports in the background either. Here is a website that has some info about Cane Garden Bay: http://www.ultimatebvi.com/tortola/beaches/beach info/?beachID=7 You can give a quick phone call and ask directly if the answers don't pop up here on the Boards. Just a thought.

Hope this helps.

Were you served from the menu listed on their site? If so my DS will be very happy with all the lobster listed.

Actually, the meal was served semi-buffet style. There were servers standing behind the food line serving you, but you could have all that you wanted. There was salad, rolls, rice, mixed grilled veggies, bbq (or jerk) chicken and bbq pork ribs that were so tender the meat melted off the bone. And you get a drink ticket that is used for a glass of punch, with or without rum!

It did not come up in the search for Tortola with MANY threads.

Just back from our first DCL cruise and DCL's first cruise to Tortola. Our family of four was unanimous that Tortola was our favorite stop. We are beach people so we went to Brewers Bay to snorkel & play in the surf. It was gorgeous and had nice snorkeling. At the most there were 8 families on the beach. There were lounge chairs to rent for $5 and plenty of shade under the palm trees.

We had a great driver with a nice new van that even had seatbelts. :thumbsup2 When i find his card i will post his name. It was $7 p/p each way. We told him when we wanted to be picked back up and he actually showed up an hour ahead of time and told us to take our time. We finished up and then had a drink with the locals at the little outdoor bar/restaurant. All of the locals were very friendly. No one ever harrassed us to buy anything. On the drive back he stopped to let us take pictures - beautiful views. The drive over the island of course is harrowing. Some people we met didn't like Tortola because of the drive but i didn't think it was any worse than St. Thomas or St. John.

To go shopping you can either pay $4 for a cab or walk it. We walked it with our 2 kids, no problem, but there is a lot of traffic and you have to cross a street, but drivers do stop for you. Don't miss the spice shop, Sunny Caribbee.

I'll answer any questions anyone has.

Tracy

The cab ride is $28 up to 4 people so if there is only 2 it is still $28 one way.
