Toronto to LA flights

We're thinking about expanding our horizons to the West Coast parks, but the biggest obstacle right now is finding cheap flights. The lowest I've found is through Delta for approximately $600 canadian roundtrip per person from T.O to L.A with one connection each way. Fairly reasonable I must say, but still a little more than I'd like. Any advice/past experiences with flights would be great! TIA

Have you looked into flying out of the Buffalo airport? I know that Southwest flys to LA and I've seen cheaper flights than $600/person.

Yes, Buffalo is half that price. We fly to LA once a year using Southwest or Jetblue and have never paid more than $1100.00 total for a family of 4. One stop either in Phoenix or Las Vegas.

We usually try to avoid flying out of another city - but those prices would definitely justify the extra travel time! I'll have to go take a look, thanks for the tip

We've been flying out of BUF for several years and actually prefer the BUF airport to YYZ. It takes us about 2hrs to drive to the BUF airport from Toronto and it is way less stressful because it's a much smaller airport and you don't have to go through customs. I used to fly out of YYZ on business almost every other week so I know how long it takes to get through Customs and security and the long hike to the gates.

There are even hotels across the street from the airport that let you park for free for up to two weeks when you stay overnight. We've done that when we've had early flights and it's really worked well.

May 2008, we flew out of Detroit to LA on Spirit Airlines. I wouldn't reccommend that as it was a long drive from TO (5hrs) to DTW, but it was really cheap. $400 US tax included total for the four of us!
