Toronto DIS meet?

I'm reposting in a separate thread, at another DISer's clever suggestion...
In the Toronto restaurants thread, we've been discussing restaurants regarding Charlotte(LeCras)'s upcoming visit to Toronto (she and her DH live in the UK).
In a recent reply, I posed the idea of a meet:
I'm surprised no one has mentioned a DISmeet at one of these restaurants! Depending on your travel dates and restaurant preferences, I'd be game. (Heck, being a Type A planner who loves to play tour guide, too, I'll offer to plan something if there's interest.)
It might be nice to get some DISers together and maybe be able to provide a 'circle of friendly acquaintances' to the DISer who is considering moving here :-)

If anyone's interested, just reply to this thread and once we have a date and place(s), I can call around and set something up. Personally, for a large group, I'd suggest something in a moderate price range, but hey, if I *have* to dine at Canoe or Sasur or whereever, that'd just be YA sacrifice for Disney/DISboards I'll have to make! :earsboy:

Well, if we're there at the time we'd love to meet some fellow DISers! :sunny:

Well, that was my idea atleast. :) The rest of us can presumably get together anytime -- I was thinking we'd get together at a time and place convenient for your and your husband.
Feel free to post here or PM me with your dates; that will give me a time frame to work on. Weekends are easier for me personally but I don't know about others.

We'll be in Toronto 22-28 August and 30 August - 3 September (off to Niagara for a few days in the middle) so anytime around there would be cool for us. :sunny:

You'll be here while the CNE is on(Canadian National Exhibition). We go every year with the kids. Here is the link:

Hopefully, we can meet up while you are here!

Okay, sorry for the delay but I'm finally in "Toronto DISmeet planning mode" (You can blame it on the late release of the October hours!) :)

First item -- do people want a weeknight or weekend restaurant meet?

Second item -- is this intended to be a family-everyone's invited meet, an adults only meet, a DISers only meet? My availability is different depending on the 'type' of meal/meet we want. (My two year olds might not be overly welcome or comfortable at Canoe, for example, but love the Senator, etc).

Third item -- where to meet-greet-and-eat? Do we want to combine this wiit, the Ex and Ontario Place are open during these dates. It won't be Disney but could be fun!

I'll throw these out, before I note my preferences, lest the organiser influence the decisions. As we say in government, I'm a hunble servant, here to serve

Hi, my preference would be for a dinner meet at a nice "cool" place with no children. No preference on weeknight or weekend.

I'd be interested and Saturdays are better for me due to the one hour commute to Toronto. I can't stand to sit in traffic during the week, but I will to meet new friends if nothing else works!

I am interested also, but pending on date and time of course. Is there anything toward the west end so those towards london and windsor might consider coming?

Hiya,
Given that the OPis in Toronto for something like 10 days out of 14, more than one meet might be arranged. Since the OP is travelling west to Niagara for a couple of days, maybe something on the way out or back might be possible?

I'll take responsibility for organising a City-of-Toronto meet, but might attend something further afield if it's assessible by public transit. Anyone interested in organising a second/ West end meet?

I hear you on the commute - I live in east Toronto but work in Oshawa. I take the GO train, though, so i'm merely sitting on the bus/train as opposed to sitting in traffic :-)

Depending on where you live, you might be able to drive to a GO station and take the train from there. That's what I'd be doing at any rate (subway or GO train)...and depending on where the OP is staying, I'd think somewhere near Union Station should be pretty central or atleast accessible for the group.

(I know the GO schedules are less than ideal so I won't take it personally if you drive!) :)

Sounds good to me! I prefer weekends as I work evenings (5 p.m. - 1 a.m.) at my job Monday to Friday.

Depending on the date and time, it might just be me without my partner in crime as we have a both at the Ren Faire in Hamilton, but it's easier for me to take off though.

Given the preference for a weekend, I would suggest Saturday August 27, adults only.

A few other questions:
Lunch or dinner?
Lunch will be cheaper and can be lots of fun (opening up more possibilities to try more expensive plances) but potentially harder for those of us with children or work on the weekend.
Dinner will be more expensive but potentially "cooler" in terms of style *and* weather. :goodvibes

Location?
LeCras - Where are you staying? Do you want somewhere close to your hotel or some other attraction?

Type of restaurant (eg inexpensive/moderate/expensive):

My preferences (but I'm flexible):
Dinner preferred (assuming I can find a babysitter!)

Location: If lunch - Bistro 990
If dinner - somewhere within walking distance of Union Station; and/or somewhere near LeCras' hotel; or Astoria on the Danforth (higher end Greek restaurant with a patio, but parking could be a problem for others)

Cost: I'm hoping for something moderate (as opposed to expensive) but will go with the will of the majority.
My husband and I are just not in the market for a $200+ night out, however, I can still plan a high-end meal! I'll either go stag or just look forward to the dining reports later.

We will be staying in Cambridge Suites Hotel (Richmond Street East), so somewhere which is easy to get to from there would be great. :sunny: Not saying it needs to be around the corner as we can always take a taxi..! :teeth:

Really looking forward to meeting some of you locals - thanks for organising this! :goodvibes
