Tornados!!!! We Made It! Update pg 2 post 28.

It seemed like all the kids were just shot today.

Crazy thing DS6 K class went on a little field trip yesterday to see the sheep at one of the farms that was leveled. Today DD12 science class went to see the damage, They could see the spot where one of the Tornados set down and dug through the field.

One of the families called 911 after they were hit. They needed a way into town. They couldnt find the vehicles or thier tractors, or even their buildings.

Tornados at night freak me out. Daytime you can see it coming. Night you just wait for the freight train to run over.

I hope it is not a bad tornado season this year.

:scared1: I think I will stay in PA and deal with the SOFTLY FALLING SNOW!

:thumbsup2 Glad to hear everyone is Ok!

I am sorry if this sounds weird but as a Canadian from the East coast, I have never dealt with it. We have had maybe 2 tornados in my provice in my lifetime and no deaths or major damage (maybe a roof).

When is Tornado Season and what areas are affected by tornados?

We hear a lot about Hurricanes but hardly anything about Tornados and I want to learn if anyone will help.

I have posted a link below. It gives the basics.

http://www.livescience.com/forcesofnature/060408_tornado_science.html

I live in a suburb of St. Louis Missouri. Right smack in tornado country. I was in a tornado when I was in 1st grade. It tore 2 trees out of our yard. We were lucky. The grade school I went to had to be shut down for a couple of weeks while they repaired the roof that had blown away.

In the early 80's I was working in a 5 story building. Someone came running into our office and said a tornado was forming out the windows. Everyone went to look and by then it was on the ground. We all had to run down 5 stories. The tornado went down the street next to our building.

The one thing I think is bad where I live are the warnings. Not because we don't get any but because we get so many. For example a tornado can be 2 counties away (about 50 miles) and our sirens start going off. They have no idea where it is going and a siren means a tornado is imminent and take cover immediately. If we did that every time a siren went off we would spend all our time in the basement. We had a neighbor that was from California and we found out that she was in her basement all the time. We told her to go check the weather herself first and then the TV. 99% of the time the warnings were not for us.

They are REALLY scary but, having grown up with them...and I HATE to say this but, to be honest...I miss those storms in a way. lol.

I'm glad you are all safe and sound. It CAN be harrowing. We always had a lot of warning for them, and a safe place to go. The truth is I am MORE afraid of them 'where I am now. There are sooo few and they just HIT and there isn't all that street to street warning or "well in a half hour it will be at x, y or z place" you know? So they just come out of nowhere kind of like it used to be back in the sixties at home.

Poor kids though, I remember how that was. Bless you all!!! I'm really glad you are all ok!!!

Here Tornado season runs from March to October. We had a warning on Halloween once. A watch means favorable weather for one to happer, warning it is happening.

There is Tornado Alley. I cant thin of all the states, KS. OK. MO. AR, If your state is in Tornado Alley tell me. I just know mine is.

I guess when you live here long enough you learn the signs. They just dont pop out of a clear blue sky.

Update
We were lucky the first Tornado that went left was half a mile wide F3 or 4. If it would have went down the path it was making we would all pretty much be gone. Our town is small. You can stand in the middle ot town and look all 4 directions and see the end of town. We are a mile long and a mile wide. Not good if we had been hit:scared1: .

Our town is doing fine. There are people helping clear homes out. The churches are fixing meals for the Volunters at night. Sat. night my church is helping out.

Wow, you had a bad night. I'm glad everyone is alright.
