Tornados!!!! We Made It! Update pg 2 post 28.

Bird City, Ks. small town around 600people.
Last night our town was hit with appx. 4 tornados . The first wave hit at 8:40 pm. We had everyone down in the girls room. first the hail hit then it got real silent. The sirens were going off. DH and I waited for the freight train to run us over. The kids were crying All emergency rigs were sent out to diffrent parts of town. They would call in where it was. They watched it go through the power lines and barely miss one house, On the East side of town, took the power lines down. The 2nd one was right behind the 1st one, 2nd one had a smaller tornado break off.

We were in the clear. Kept the kids downstairs. DH and I came up. He went to check on is Mom. DH's boss drove over here, 30mi. to see if we were okay. He couldn't get a hold of us. He thought everything was gone.

Round 2
The siren was out so FD had to drive around and blow thiers to sound Tornado warning. W ran back down dragged DD and DS out of her room back into DDs's room. and waited. This one missed town on the West side. The town on each side were standing by waiting to sent in EMS after we were hit. Thank Goodness they were able to stand down.

FD and Law enf. started well checks. one farm called 911 they were hit. But were okay . Farms were calling each other to check. Another farm has hit but also were okay . There were other houses hit north of town. Everyone was okay.

We will see what more damage there was in daylight. DH is worried about sprinklers being upset in fields.


We all made it out okay. just structures, not people damaged.

Kids asked if there would be school? Yes it was still there. THey didnt like that. I told them scholl is 2blocks away from us. I am glad it was still there. We would have felt that one.

OMG! How scary. I remember well the fear during a tornado warning - I grew up in the midwest. I am so glad you and your fellow townspeople are safe.

Tornados scare me more than any other force of nature. it must have been quite a night for you. Glad you and everyone else in your town is OK.

OMG. Reading your post gave me goose bumps. I'm so glad everyone is okay. I am so afraid of tornadoes. I have been ever since I was a child and I'm not sure why. They are my biggest fear though.

Thank-you all. I guess that is what you get when you live in the mid-west the plains region.

I will see what the damage is today with the sun out.

So glad to hear you are all doing OK! I live in Indiana, and tornados are a part of life here too! I have never actually been in one, but we have had tornado warnings in our town too. I don't think any of them actually touched down, but it is the scariest feeling in the world! I am terrified of them also and not sure why. Anytime bad weather is coming, I take all my important stuff in the basement just in case(scrapbooks, my purse, cell phone, animals, my kids, my DH, and me). Hopefully my fears will never come true!!!

Beaver county in the Oklahoma Panhandle, just east of a town called Elmwood, a farm house got hit last night and killed the 50 year old couple inside.

but out of the 50 or so tornadoes last night those were the only fatalities.

I am so glad you are OK.

My biggest nightmare would be a tornado. Thank God noone was hurt.

A couple of the houses that were hit are gone. one family were in the eye of the tornado.

Ugh! I hate tornados. I am glad you made it OK! It is nice to see everyone checking on their neighbors.
I so remember my parents taking me downstairs to wait out a storm, to hear the hail stop..... we were lucky too.
Hope there isn't too much clean up!

I'm so glad you and your family are okay. I was watching the Weather Channel last night and they had storm chasers calling in live! I couldn't imagine going through something like that. Hopefully the structural damage can be repaired soon.

I heard there were over 65 tornados across 6 states!! Glad you are safe!

Glad you and your loved ones are safe...my hometwon just went throgh this last week!! Lots of homes lost in that one!
