Anyone from the Quad City area? I am from there and am hearing reports of 4 tornadoes. I heard one hit Iowa City. I can't remember who, but I know we have one Diser from there. Please check in if you are from that area.....Be safe.

Used to live in the QCA. My Dad was 2nd in charge at the NWS office there. I'm sure the NOAA guys and girls are working overtime tonight.

Stay safe!

ME!!! I am right between Iowa City and Davenport. The tornadoes went right south of us. We spent most of this evening in the basement. Iowa City got hit hard. Classes at the university have been cancelled. Most damage in south Iowa City. Anamosa got hit hard too. I hate storms. It's moving on through the Quad Cities and into Illinois.

I grew up in East Moline and lived most of my life there. What are you hearing on the local news? The websites for WQAD and KWQC don't have very much on them yet. I have a lot of friends and some family there.

Did you have any damage? Glad you are safe now. :sunny:

prayers go out to all you in the storms. i am in tennessee and went through all that last weekend. keep safe!!

Thankfully we have minimal damage. Some tree branches down mostly. I heard one death in Iowa City but I don't have details. Lots of blown in windows, no electricity in areas and several barns blown down. Muscatine got hit hard too. I believe the immediate Quad City area was spared anything really bad but Dubuque is getting some strong storms now.

We were eating in Walcott when he just started. Got home in time to go to the basement. Of course I kept coming up to watch and check the news.

Just brought the kids downstairs to the family room- one step before the basement. Watching the radar while I DIS.....power is a little iffy. We are on the west side of the county, have pea size hail already, and the worst hasn't even hit yet......my DH is at the ER with my MIL. She experienced chest pains tonight and called us instead of 911 (I called 911). She is okay- she has dementia, hasn't eaten in at least a day, and her meds are all messed up. May be time for more restrictive living rather than assisted living! The storms really bother her, so I hope they have good sedatives at the ER! Stay safe and keep your heads down!!!!

My daughter lives in Iowa City and she said the western section is pretty much okay, but from Riverside and to the east got hit pretty hard. She still has power on West Benton Street area. The Dairy Queen on Riverside is no longer there and cars were turned over at a dealership on Highway 1.

I was in Galesburg at a symphony rehearsal and left just before 10 PM. A friend called us while we were still on the road and she was sheltering in a Walgreens because the tornadoes were hitting the area. They had some softball sized hail. We only saw lightening on the way home to Iowa, so we got out just in time.

Hope everyone is safe tonight.

The destruction is just incredible. I have never seen anything like this.

Trees snapped in half, down everywhere.

Cars flipped upside down.

Steel beams flung through car windshields.

Power lines down, traffic signals lying in the middle of the street.

6000 homes without electricity.

Golf ball sized hail.

Several businesses destroyed, including a Dairy Queen that had been a family-owned business since the 1950's.

Almost every car dealership devastated.

The entire rooftop ripped off of St. Patrick's Church, where the daughter of one of our friends is scheduled to be married over Memorial Day weekend.

The University of Iowa, which remains in session through blizzards and ice storms, is cancelled today.

The National Guard is out, directing traffing, protecting people from downed power lines, maintaining order.

The biggest blessing was that there were no deaths or serious injuries.

We actually live 20 miles to the north and east of Iowa City, and luckily, had NO damage at all, and didn't even lose power. We are very, very thankful.

Sorry I couldn't remember your name, but I remembered your signature part about it's Iowa City. Glad you are ok. I looked this morning at websites for the area. I lived there a long time and never saw anything like it before.

DH and I lived in Iowa City for several years while attending graduate school. The pictures I just browsed of Iowa City are stunning. I'll be thinking of the city and its residents today.

We've contacted the friends we have left in IC and all are reporting they are fine, but Like Deb said, it's devestating. :sad2: I lived there for 5 years and I don't remember any tornado warnings. :confused3 I only lived there for one summer though, when the majority of warnings would take place.

very glad no lives where lost. i wish in TN we could have said the same. total of 36 lost here when we had tornadic storms sweep through within a week of each other

Actually, I have seen one report of one person dying, but near Muscatine, not IC.
To the OP- I talked to my Mom in Davenport this morning. She said they had lots of lightning and tons of rain, but no damage.

Thanks. I talked to some friends and they said the same. I know so many people all over that area in general from Iowa City to Dubuque to Muscatine and over towards Joslin. I spent a lot of time as a kid going back and forth to Iowa City when my mom was found to have kidney failure. It was the only place that did the dialysis back then. Later, she had two different transplansts there. I can't believe the pictures I am seeing. :sad2:

Looking at the pictures and it is really sad how things like this happen. I was looking at the one of th DQ and seeing how it has been there for so many years. I use to think ... well my house has been here for over 60 yrs and has been through tornado warning in the county before and it is still here. I guess this just gave me a different opinon on that now. ANYONE IS A TARGET. Prayers out to you all!!!
