We are watching the local news and saw funnel cloud form on the traffic cam. I don't have a clear understanding but it sounds like one touched down within a mile or 2 from the Racetrack as the fans were leaving.

Very scary!

It's south of the track and farther east now. The people at the track are alright. It's still bad out there, with the storm and all, but they are alright.
We have had sirens going for hours and they almost have this pinpointed to the exact location that it might happen.
It did just go by my sister's house though. But they didn't see anything.
It went right over the power plant, but nothing happened there, thank goodness. So far, they are making sure to be exact to where it's likely to be and have been warning us for a long while.

Everyone southeast of here, be careful.

Thanks for the report, Serena, and I'm glad that you are OK! From the radar and reports, it sounded like the funnel started in the Speedway area.

The night isn't over yet and the damage on the highways will certainly hinder the traffic leaving the race.

I just got through watching the race a little while ago and it looked dark. I hope things are ok because I have a lot of friends there as fans and I know several crew members, and drivers most of whom are in motor homes there. And I doubt that a lot of the parties in some of the hospitality tents are over yet - yikes! One time I'm glad to NOT be at the track.

I was a little disappointed we didn't go to the race this year, but now I am really glad we didn't. Dh is watching it on TV and he said it was close to the national weather service reporting center. Now he said it was heading down 70. I hate this kind of weather. I hope that everyone is safe.....

While I was driving home I heard there was one spotted near Martinsville & Pulaski County. Glad I got out of Indy around noon. I am way up North in Elkhart County was are under a watch until 3 am.

My Sister is there, but by now there more than likley in Broadripple.

Laurie I am SOOOOOOOOOO glad to know your okay. When I heard about the tornados you are the first person I thought about!!!!! Stay safe!!!!!!

I'm sure the police have helped the traffic situation. They usually have 3 out of the 4 lane roads with people leaving the track in all directions. I'm sure today they probably had the traffic leaving non stop to help everyone leave.

Like I said, the tornados were south of here. It looks really scary out there but so far it seems to be more looks than real storm.

I hope everyone has a place to go to be safe.

:) I'm fine Beth. And I've got a basement if I need it. My doggie seems to be stuck to me like glue though. lol

I'm going to get off the computer again for a while. I just wanted to let you all know everyone at the track was alright. I'll check in again later. :)

DH just called and is in Lafayette where he witnessed a tornado. He is with his dad, uncle, and friend and they are alright.

I wish he would get home - him driving in this makes me very nervous. He still has to get through Newton county which has a lot of watches and warnings.

Send pixie dust for him to have a safe drive home.

I just got home from my other house west of Indy, we left as the tornado started .I hope everyone is okay!!

I'm her ein Plainfield [West of Indy in Hendricks county] I'm glad we didn't go to the race This year. It's okay over here now. Earlier two houses were torn up over by my boyfriends house and I was crying. I really hate storms. I hope everyone makes it through the night okay.

I two windows open for weather radar, Channel 13 and Channel 6. 6 looks worse for my area!

Funny how different they are.

I know. I was watching channel 8 and then was online at channel 13 wthr and the radars were really different in colour.
