Is anyone else as nervous as I am about the next couple of days weather patterns in the south?

Living in the south it's a part of life in the spring but I saw what has happened to the mid west and I'm going to admit that I'm down right scared.

The weather channel guy isn't helping with his Tor Con of 8 for us here in the mid state. :scared1::scared1:

Here's to praying that everone makes it through the next few days.

If you don't have one, pick up a NOAA weather radio. You can get them for around $20 at Walmart, Homeland, Radio Shak, just to name a few places. It makes me feel much more secure living in Tornado Alley. We keep it in our bedroom so it will alert us to storms while we're sleeping, but it's loud and we can hear it all over the house. I find it much more accurate and up to the minute for my area than The Weather Channel.

We had a small tornado touch down about 15 miles from us Friday night. They're scary! :scared1:

You have had NASTY weather down south this spring. I would be nervous as well. Hope everyone stays safe!!

I second the weather radio.

I live in VA. and last week, there were a few tornados that touched down here. the local news said that within the viewing area there were only 3 places that weren't in a tornado warning for that whole day.

Thursday is when the storm system will be over my area, so I am going to make sure the tub is ready again.

Hope everyone stays safe with this storm system.

Stay safe, everyone. I grew up in the midwest and tornado safety was part of my education.

I can remember quite vividly as a very young child playing outside our apartment when the "tomato" sirens came on. My mom came out screaming for us to come in and my brother was stuck in the wagon. Scary stuff.

Last spring there was a tornado warning for our county - almost unheard of in Vermont. I woke up the kids and dragged them into the basement with the laptop and the cats until it expired. They were all scarred for life! My friends and co workers laughed at me.

Yep, I am worried about it. I have lived here for 11 years so far and the tornadoes we had in the last set of storms were only the second and third we have had here. Usually the mountains break the storms up too much for it to get to the point of tornadoes, but this year has been really bad.

We are supposed to get the worse of it tomorrow. I am just hoping that they break up like usual. The bad weather we were supposed to get today has not happened (yet) because of the line breaking up. So, keeping my fingers crossed.

Everyone stay safe...

I grew up and lived in Kansas for many years. There were tornado warnings and watches frequently. Other than a few tree limbs being blown into the street, I never once saw any actual damage done by a tornado except on tv.
Of course you should take precautions and take it seriously, but try not to worry about it. :)

See, I don't get this laughing, downplaying of what nature could do. And you know, you need to teach kids what to do, it isn't something that should just be a devil may care attitude.

I'm in Kentucky and nervous about tomorrow. We did get an app for our iphones that helps - it sends out alarms for watches and warnings (different sound for each) and it's loud enough to wake us up.

We live in Lexington about a mile and a half away from the airport. The other day we were watching a huge rotation cloud over the airport headed right towards us. Kinda scary. It never fully formed into a tornado, though, thank goodness.

I live in the midwest where we are having terrible flooding. We had tornado warnings nearly everyday for the last 4-5 days. :sad2: Hope you all stay safe.

It's going to be a long night for us.

Awesome. What is that app named?

I think it's going to get pretty rough tomorrow night here. I hate these storms!!

I'm in Middle TN too and I'm terrified of these storms!! I grew up in an area that never had tornadoes so living in the new Tornado Alley makes me paranoid! :scared: I'm thankful that I have a basement, but it's only a partial basement and only half of it is actually underground. So I never truly feel safe down there. I'm just praying it gets here during the daytime. I work in a large building downtown and feel safe there. Plus, the schools are huge which makes me feel like the kids are safe as well. But I'll still be doing LOTS of praying all night tonight and all day tomorrow!

I was at Keeneland when that storm started - YIKES!!! :scared1:

libertybelle, I couldn't download My Radar on the ipad for some reason and it shows nothing on the iPhone to indicate an alarm will sound, DH says it shuts off after 2 minutes so I'm not sure how it will work. am I missing something or will it work?

I just downloaded it to my iphone and I don't see an alarm either. I'm nervous about tomorrow and we don't have a weather radio any more...and I tend to sleep right through the tornado sirens:rolleyes: I'd love to have my iphone go off right next to me. Are there any other apps out there?

As of right now, they are saying NE TN may actually miss most of the worst of it. We will get a strong line of storms tomorrow night about 7:00pm to 2:00am with strong winds, heavy rain, and hail. However, they are saying the threat of tornadoes are less then they originally thought unless we have some cells pop up in front of the line. They expect the mountains to protect us some it seems.

I just hope they are right!
