Tornado jitters.

Its been very stormy already this year hasn't it? We have more severe storms coming this evening and its been very windy all afternoon. Its supposed to be clear and dry the next few days so hopefully we can dry out! I thought I was gonna have to get a canoe!

Stay Safe!

We've already had several tornado warnings here this morning, and the worst of the storms are supposed to come later this afternoon. Normally, I don't get too scared during storms like this, but this one has a different feel to it. It just feels "weird" outside.

We're on a two-hour school delay right now, and I have a funny feeling we'll being going home early today.

I heard about the terrible storms moving through the south and I hope everyone is ok.

That "weird" feeling is something to pay attention to. Stay alert. Also, if you have pets, keep a close eye on them.

When our area had tornadoes a few weeks ago, our cat was crazy anxious about 20 mins before the warnings were issued.

Those in the path of this massive storm, stay safe, be careful and don't do anything stupid!

I'm in the basement part of the house (not in a safe area as of yet, but can get there in seconds from here). I'm watching the local news and have the radar up from the weather channel . They have no moved the tornado warnings north yet because the storms are weakening in the mountains. We do have a tornado watch atm though. We do have a confirmed tornado just south of Maryville, TN around Madison. It has been seen on the ground by law enforcement.

I also just realized I have NO battery powered radios in the house. I have been swearing a lot today LOL. I also doubt I will get much sleep tonight. Guess what is going on my shopping list once we get through these storms....

Ugh, I hate watching and waiting.

Stay safe! I'm in NE Georgia, and it looks like it'll be a long night for us as well. I've got the flashlights and weather radio ready.

Ugh... stay safe yourself.

As for right now, the storms seem to be going JUST north of us. As in, the severe warnings ride the northern county line. Is it too much to hope this keeps happening?

And sorry for all the posting... I'm a bit freaked out at the moment as I really hate storms of any kind. No idea why, never had anything really bad happen, but weather like this puts me into a near panic. Writing about it actually helps some... thus all the posts.

I have a cousin in Nashville, and a brother-in-law and his family in Mississippi. . .I'm hoping they're all safe!

Checking in here, weather is a bit spooky here but so far the worst has missed us it's all hit southeast of where I live.

I'm from Buffalo NY and we're even having tornado watches! And severe thunderstorms, flash floods and hail! :scared1: All my best to those in the south. :flower3:

The weather channel guy isn't helping with his Tor Con of 8 for us here in the mid state. :scared1::scared1:
I know. They have Eastern KY at a 7 today on the Tor Con scale. Which basically means a 70% chance of tornadic activity.:scared1:
If you don't have one, pick up a NOAA weather radio. You can get them for around $20 at Walmart, Homeland, Radio Shak, just to name a few places. It makes me feel much more secure living in Tornado Alley. We keep it in our bedroom so it will alert us to storms while we're sleeping, but it's loud and we can hear it all over the house. I find it much more accurate and up to the minute for my area than The Weather Channel.
Thanks for the info! I am getting one of those as soon as I can. It is difficult when bad weather comes through here. As soon as the heavy rain starts, our satellite goes out. And I haven't found a decent, up to the minute and accurate website to follow.

It's not always like this. lol
I'm glad to hear that. I moved to Kentucky from PA 18 months ago. I thought the weather here would be a little more mild in the winter(less snow). Not true. And the weather this month is just crazy. All the rain and tornadoes and flooding is insane! We have tornado warnings into effect until 1am tonight. I hope May brings better weather.

Sirens going off in Birmingham, AL... also a tornado spotted in Lynchburg, VA possibly. They are saying this could be the biggest outbreak in history if it keeps up.

I would believe it. We had two back to back here.

Do we have any members in Tuscaloosa, AL? They just had a tornado go through town...

That is one scary looking tornado. It reminds me of the 1974 tornadoes that tore through Tuscaloosa, West Blocton, and Guin. A take-no-prisoners kind of tornado. My sisters and I went to college near Tuscaloosa and DSis still lives in Meridian, MS, which is about 75 miles southwest of T-town, so they've been in and out of the basement all afternoon.

Honestly, I'm getting a little wiggy here in Atlanta. The wind is high and it's very humid. We are in for a night of it, I'm afraid.

See, I don't get this laughing, downplaying of what nature could do. And you know, you need to teach kids what to do, it isn't something that should just be a devil may care attitude.

I agree with this. With the way the weather has been more recently, you never know where a tornado or any other bad weather may turn up.

OP, I can so understand you being jittery. We have had the sirens going off at least once a night for the past several days. Last night a tornado hit nearby but thankfully it hit at our fairgrounds so no one was injured.

Our biggest problem right now is the rain. We have flooding in so many areas that the school district had to do an hour delay today. My middle one was late to school because her school bus had to backtrack to a different route as the main road to their school was flooded. I just want all this mess to go away already.

Please everyone stay safe and adhere to the warnings to stay safest.

I watched it go through North Birmingham and actually feel a little sick atm. They said it looked to be about 1.5 miles wide (including the debris cloud area). There is another storm to the west that may have some rotation as well... so, it is not clear yet.

Virgina is now seeing a bunch of warnings.

Warnings in DC now, including Andrew's Airforce Base.

Now to wait until the next set comes through here... so far, not even any rain for us. Though, that doesn't make me feel any better.

This is just scary. It's finally let up in my area of TN, most of the stations have resumed normal programming.

Where are you if you don't mind me asking? I'm over in the Tri Cities... so it is just really starting for us. We are watching a storm coming north that could be a problem, but hopefully it will follow the path the rest have. Kingsport was hit pretty hard, but no tornadoes thankfully.

We have tornado warnings Northwest of the county atm... This is just nuts.

I'm 15 minutes southeast of Nashville. We've been spared for the most part today. Just a lot of rain
