Was diagnosed with this in June. I am still experiencing pain and am going for an MRI. My trip is in late August early September. Any one experience this on a Disney vacation. Just wondering because I am going no matter what.

Yes, my wife did. We went on 3 trips with her meniscus torn.

She was unable to walk for extended periods of time. We had to rent a scooter for her. After the first time getting on the bus with the scooter, I rented an suv.

Get your injection about 3 weeks before you go. That worked best for my wife.

Ask your doc to fill out a request for a temporary handicap placard. It made parking and getting to the parks so much easier. You may be on wheels, but your family isn't.

Some lines can accommodate an ecv. Some will send you down the FP line and others will have you transfer to a wheel chair.

My wife had the arthroscopic surgery about 15 months ago. It didn't help. 6 weeks ago she had a knee replacement and is still recovering in pain. She has been out of the house once since.

Yep, just rent a scooter and vroom through the parks. It's actually an awesome cop out. I enjoyed my "wounded knee" trip far more than the others because I didn't have to walk so much.

That is scary. Hopefully your wife will recover soon.

I would say torn meniscus varies big time person to person. I was diagnosed in June of 2009 and was playing in high-level basketball tournaments about 8 months later.

Thank You for the replies.
StraightToDumbo how long did it take for you to heal?

Mine was fairly uncomplicated, and I'm in the military so my body was in pretty good shape. I was running within 4 months, but if I was doing something like Disney I'd probably opt for the ECV up to about 8 months after. Disney soreness is a whole different beast from military soreness.

We had a west coast trip that included the San Diego Zoo, Disneyland, Vegas, Carlsbad Caverns, the Grand Canyon and other things. I had a noticeable limp on the days with a lot of walking.

Not a torn meniscus, but I had a pretty bad ankle sprain that put me in a boot for a trip. Ended up renting a wheelchair, for the trip and I felt a little silly having to be pushed around by my wife and friends. But overall it was a fun trip, because far as I'm concerned there is no bad trip.

I have though had a torn meniscus and it wasn't fun. A cortisone shot did help for a while but I eventually had to have it surgically repaired. Try and take it easy, and rent a wheelchair/ECV.

Hi, I'm in the same boat...tore my meniscus about 2 months ago. I went for a cortisone shot about 3-4 weeks ago when first diagnosed. It was wonderful!! Pain free. The only thing is...it ended up lasting only about 3 weeks. This past weekend I started feeling it again. I spoke to my orthopedist yesterday, he's going to give me another shot 4 days before we leave (Aug 21st we leave), then when we return, we'll have to see about the arthroscopic surgery. I know it's a personal choice, but maybe talk to your doctor about a shot to help you get through Disney. I'm really trying not to let it get to me either, we're going alright!! 3 weeks from Monday, but whose counting!! If it bothers me, I'll sit a bit, there are far worst places to be sitting than Disney World!
