Torn about Transport

My family is going to WDW the week after memorial day, and we're spending 7 nights at the CR in a tower room, followed by one night at the YC. I've booked Magical Express AND a rental car. This is our family's third trip to WDW staying onsite. We've always rented a car. The first time we went, we stayed at the AoA, so the car got heavy use. The next time we stayed at the BC. The car came in very handy for going to the AK and MK, and also to DD. The last two times we went in late August, so we were able to get the car for about $250 for the week.

This year, the rate I have thus far for Avis is going to be about $394 (including taxes). I've been to WDW for work conventions, and I never get a car for those. I typically went to the parks only after work, so the midday rest at the resort wasn't an issue. I did find that the trip between the parks and the resorts is far longer when you rely on Disney Transport.

Do you think there is a chance that there will be better discounts on cars coming up between now and the end of May? Now that we are staying at a monorail resort, is it even an issue not to have a car?

Thoughts? Suggestions?

They generally come down, but it is a holiday travel time. You can always cancel if you don't book through a site that has pre pay discount. Las tOctoner I had shock when the prices were high. I grabbed one when a dip happend.

We're actually going the week after the holiday week, so I'm hoping the prices will come down. Our vacation starts 5/30.
