Torn About Dining Plan

my trip isn't until may and since i can't make ADRs yet anyway, i have a little time to decide, but...i have almost decided to go ahead and do it for the 5 of us for out 7-night trip. i have planned it all out and have my restaurants picked out. my problem is the TS dessert. if i could have a choice of soup OR salad OR appetizer OR side dish OR dessert, it would be a no brainer. but being stuck with entree & dessert only....i guess there is a lot more profit build into desserts. i have APs and the DDE/TIW card, but the plan is such a good deal moneywise with respect to the kids that i'll probably do it. it could be so much better. sigh.

Yeah, I'm not a big desserts person either. I'd rather have a salad anyday. I am hoping since this is a new change they might be a bit flexable. I'm going in early Febuary so I'm gonna test the waters. I'll post to let people know.

Dessert is the best part of a meal!!!! That is why next time I'm going to do the Deluxe dining plan, so I can get more dessert!!! :lovestruc

I'm not happy about the appy's being taken away either. We are on the dining plan for our trip in Jan, but I'm not using the DDP for a trip in March. We'll have AP's and I plan on getting the TIW card to use on both trips. It will at least give 20% off the extra stuff we want to order in addition to the DDP (appy's/alcohol) and it will give the discount on the whole meal when we vacation w/o the DDP in March.

I'm looking forward to not having the DDP in March, b/c then I feel like I'm not wasting food (I prefer the appy over the dessert). I'd rather fill up on the entree and grab a Dole Whip or Mickey Bar for my dessert later! :goodvibes

It's not really new anymore in 2009, because this policy was in effect for all of 2008 already. And sorry to say there was no flexibility on the dessert (other than your choice of dessert:thumbsup2 ) If you can search the threads for 2008, you'll find that many, many people tried to get a sub for the desserts and no one was able to (in fact, many reports that CMs told people they would get fired if they subbed anything for desserts.)

On the plus side, the way it works you don't actually "just get an entree"...most places we ate at in both May & September you did get some sort of bread or roll for starters, and the various entrees came with some kind of veg or accompaniament like rice with the salmon or cheesy mashed potatoes. And of course at the buffets you have your choice of many "appy" type foods like salad bars & fresh fruits.

I am seriously doubting they will ever give an option of dessert or appy.not as long as the deluxe plan is available. In 2008, it was clear that it did not matter what circumstances you had(even medical) they would not allow a substitution. I would be very surprised if they changed that.
