Torchwood - Children of Earth

Too bad the Doctor's cut off hand didn't make it through the blast...or did it? <VBEG>

The Doctor's cut off hand became a copy of the Doctor in the DW Series Four finale where Donna Noble's DNA comined with the hand to create a copy Doctor and "Doctor Donna". It was pretty awesome.

Crud! Totally forgot about that!

BTW, anyone see the quick DW trailer from Comic Con someone recorded with their phone? Many of the actors return for the final David Tennant episode including Donna (Yea!!!), her mom, her grand-dad, the Master, the Prime Minister, the Ood [SP?], and more! It's on YouTube somewhere.

AWESOME! Sounds good!

With how TW Season 3 ended RTD could start with almost any scenario. A new Hub, rebuilt old hub, new team, surviving members with new members. We've all watched the three seasons and in 2 and 3 big events happened (ie-death of characters). Too bad the Doctor's cut off hand didn't make it through the blast...or did it? <VBEG>

As for RTD not respecting his viewers and killing characters off, I don't think of it that way. If you didn't care for "Janto" you wouldn't be so angry over the storyline. RTD took the show to a level not seen in many tv shows. I got chills during 5 when the soldiers are dragging kids out of homes and away from screaming parents. And who wasn't totally freaked out by Gwen's video? Disgusted by Jack's decision to defeat the 456 by sacrificing his grandson? He made it to save the human race - what would you have done? What would you have done if you were any of those characters faced with those decisions? The story may not have been perfect, but aside from some of the better cable series (Dexter comes to mind) rarely has something so powerful come about.

I respect the fact that some think that COE was great television, great storytelling. My problem is that the writers/producers made Jack not give the boy a *choice*, it was a forced death, those characters WOULDN'T EVEN TELL THE KID WHAT WAS GOING ON. Oh NO, had to practically manhandle him up onto that platform, had to keep his mother away from him. What about if he overheard them discussing the '456' and he volunteered so his friends would live? I think this particular death was practically meaningless because the sacrifice itself didn't know what was going to happen.
And yeah, that meaningless fictional death bothers me. We watch TV series because something about their characters or the show makes us want to invite them into our homes for an hour or two. And I know it sounds kind of funny, but now I'm really not sure I want to invite the character of Captain Jack in.

As for powerful? Hmmmm, I dunno, but I think I'd put the best of "Homicide" up against COE :cool2: .

Btw, somewhat off of Torchwood I agree that Planet of the Dead was kind of "Meh", especially considering that BBCAmerica ran the same stinkin' promo for it over and over and over and over again every single night of COE.

agnes!

Okay, I finally got around to watching Day 5. Here are my thoughts:

LOVED that the Prime Minister got his comeuppance. And I loved how it came about.

Ianto's death--not necessary. We could have gotten enough dramatic heft from Jack's sacrifice of his grandson. He still could have left, and dealt with the repercussions if/when he returned (Ianto moving on. Ianto not forgiving him...) the possibilities are endless.

To paraphrase from some of the other boards I've gone to: "Gwen goes through all this and doesn't even break a fingernail???"

Children as a drug source???

I knew that Clement was the key to sloving this, so why did they have to wait so long to figure this out?

Overall, I loved most of the writing, but it got sloppy towards the end. I'm not sure if I want to see a Season 4 or not. We'll see.:confused3
