So I notice that a lot of people on here use Topaz to help with their post-processing and I was hoping I could get some opinions. We are looking at getting it but I do not know if we should get the whole bundle or just the Topaz Adjust. Does anyone have any thoughts?

it depends on how you want to process you photos. They do have a 30 day trial that you can download the photoshop bundle and see what you use during that 30 day period. That might be your best way to decide what you will use.

Dave pirate:

True - try them all on the trial, then price out those you think you'll use. Compare that to the bundle and see how it looks.

Personally, I find I use Denoise3, Adjust, and Detail, while I don't really use Clean or Simplify much...but getting the bundle ended up being cheaper than buying the other three separately, and then the two I don't use get thrown in free anyway.

They are talking about adding a new one to their DeNoise, DeJpeg bundle. It's going to be called DeFunk. It's for pictures suffering from excessive HDR.

You know, by sheer coincidence, I was glancing at the Topaz site earlier today. They really have some truly ghastly examples of HDR up there - they're like everything that is really wrong with it. I mean, really guys - you might want to mention that it's possible to use the software and not have everything coming out looking like it just came from the bizarro dimension or something!

It never ceases to amaze me how photography is only visual art that so many people think is (or is not) "supposed" to look a certain way -- and if it doesn't, it is somehow "wrong."

Here are a few that I edited using Adjust. They don't always HAVE to look like they came from another world ;).

I actually posted the 2nd picture in the Topaz forum and had several people ask me if I even used the software for the picture :rotfl:.

I would do like others have suggested and use the 30 day trial and see which you like and then buy the bundle :), they work out cheaper that way. Another good thing about Topaz is if they upgrade the software, you will get the upgrade for free rather having to re-purchase it.

Those are nice -- and you are right. One thing I like about HDR is how adaptable it is. Depending on the subject, you can make it look entirely natural, or completely surreal -- however you think the subject is best served.

Here is one I edited using Topaz Adjust. I think it gave it a nice little pop.

Hey Joe, love the pic from Ridley Creek State Park! We were there May 31st (the day before our Disney trip) for my brother's wedding. My Aunt and Uncle work there taking care of the horses. Small world.

I am a topaz user, sometimes it works well, sometimes it doesn't. You just have to decide what you are going for. I wanted this photo to be more surreal, not great, but not to bad.

Thanks.....that is one of my favorite local place to photograph :thumbsup2

I'm pretty sure that can be said for any form of art... just look at painting, you have impressionistic, realistic, modern, etc, etc... I'm pretty sure that each one has its detractors. (Especially modern art!)
