Top Secret Pixie Dust! A Surprise 13th Birthday PTR! NEW! TRIP REPORT LINK PAGE 220!

Yes, we had a great time exploring the zoo. I just wish the naked molerats had been out and about -- Connor was very upset about not being able to see them. :confused3

As soon as I read that, my first thought was that my second/almost third-graders would be thrilled to get away with being being able to say the word naked and get away with it! I can picture about six of my boys volunteering to read any and every sign aloud (read LOUDLY) with information about naked molerats!

When we go to the zoo later this month, I'll have to see if they have any of those clothing-deprived animals. If they do, I'm making a point to take the group to see them just to get a cheap laugh. ;)

"The Varsity" in downtown Atlanta....I have seen that on several FoodTV/Travel Channel shows!! :goodvibes
You should look into Earth Boxes for planting vegetables....you will have nice fresh soil instead of your red clay :) I have three of them and have always had great success.

I know I was envious. :lmao: When I was little, they had pandas at the DC zoo, too, and I fell in love with them. I wonder if they still have them...

They do still have them! Here are some pictures from the last time we were there.

I loved all your Atlanta zoo pictures.
I agree with everyone else too...Chelsea looks so grown up and just beautiful!

Hi CP....

I love your zoo pictures. It looks like a beautiful zoo. And the weather - lovely. And Chelsea - what can I say....just as I predicted....she is really starting to look "mature", ......Can you say teenager, princess, babe, hot, diva? Seriously, she is a beautiful girl! And Connor - so cute!

Now, I know I haven't read anything in about a week (I was sick, sick, sick), but did I hear some rumblings about another F&W trip this October?????

HHI sounds heavenly to me. I like the thought that you can have Disney with out all the crowds and stress.
That is too cool with the Gorilla Easter Egg Hunt. I would love to see something like that. Sounds like a fun day with the cousins! Chelsea is becoming so grown up. She is so pretty, Jackie! That is something my DD would do with the sweatshirt.
Anything new with an October trip? Will the kiddos be coming?

I'm going to search the search the Sedgwick County Zoo site right now to see if we have any of the naked molerats for our visit this month....
Poor Connor looks devastated in that last picture and Chelsea looks adorable!
Cute Vera Jackie, but then again, it looks just like mine!
;)

Thanks for the tip about the zoo newsletter! I should sign up for it - FI and I were actually at the zoo a couple of weeks ago and really enjoyed it. I hadn't been since middle school! We'll definitely be heading back sometime soon. Looking at your pictures is like deja vu! :lmao: The close up of the elephant is my favorite - very nice! :thumbsup2

Love all your zoo pics, Jackie. Looks like a fun day!

I have to say that the pandas are my favorite----so cute! :thumbsup2

Okay, I only had to go back 7 pages to catch up. Not tooooo bad. I wasn't a fan of the zoo growing up but I enjoy taking the kids to one now. Funny how Connor was upset at the end. OH! Too bad Chelsea isn't a little bit younger 'cause then you could dress her in giraffe clothes. (I'm sure she's love that!) I saw the most adorable giraffe collection at Gymboree outlet today. I already bought the ones that I liked last year though. I was actually sad that I didn't need to buy any items today.

Thanks for sharing your fun zoo day! I had forgotten the cousins were going along, and I thought "who are those random kids posing with Chelsea and Connor?" :rotfl2: I had to google je ne sais quoi I had heard it before, but just pretended to know - it means "I dont know" :lmao: cracks me up! I didn't know that it meant I don't know - okay it's late and I've had a glass of wine. I can see it as being used as "a certain something..." okay time for bed - I don't even know how to make it stop posting this bold print...:lmao:

I love the animal photos, especially the lions, pandas, and giraffes.
Chelsea looks so grown up compared to the photos you shared in your first ptr/tr. WOW! I don't know how she was able to keep that hoodie on in the heat.

Your Vera is so cute. Love the print.

Thanks! I don't know how she was able to keep that hoodie on either -- I think it was pure stubborness on her part because I told her she would be too hot. She wanted to prove me wrong.

They were there in August last year but I think they were going back to China soon so I'm glad we got to see them. And we got to see the baby too!

How sweet! There was a baby -- well he was almost two years old -- at the Atlanta zoo, but I could not get close enough to the glass to snag a picture of him.

As soon as I read that, my first thought was that my second/almost third-graders would be thrilled to get away with being being able to say the word naked and get away with it! I think being able to say "naked" repeatedly was part of the allure for Connor. :rotfl: That, and wasn't there a character on Kim Possible that was a naked mole rat? You know how Connor is with Kim Possible. :lmao:

You must take your second graders to see them -- the giggles will be one of the best parts of the trip. :rotfl:

Yes, The Varsity is one of our Atlanta institutions. It's a great place for chili dogs and orange frosty things. Of course, you pay for it with indigestion the rest of the day!

Good idea about the Earth Boxes! :thumbsup2

They do still have them! Here are some pictures from the last time we were there.

Thanks! Great pictures of the pandas! I was so enamored with them when I was about eight that I left the zoo with a t-shirt and a stuffed panda. I think their names were Ling Ling and Sing Sing. I definitely went through a panda phase that was soon followed by a penguin phase and a meerkat phase.

Thanks, MEK! All of those adjectives do fit Chelsea these days (especially the diva part! LOL!) I hope you are feeling better now!

Charles and I are knocking around the idea of another Food and Wine trip -- we want to celebrate our 15th wedding anniversary at the 15th Food and Wine Festival.

Thanks! I am looking forward to the relaxing part of the trip -- and the sand and the beach and the seafood and the Disney touches...

Nothing new with the October trip -- it's all talk at this point. I asked Charles if he wanted to take the kids, and he said no.

That's a true depiction of Connor when he gets in a mood. :lmao:

Love that Cupcake Pink print! It just makes me smile every time I see it!

Thanks! The Zoo is having a big Party for the Planet on the Saturday after Earth Day! The line-up of activities looks like fun!

Love all your zoo pics, Jackie. Looks like a fun day!

I have to say that the pandas are my favorite----so cute! :thumbsup2

Thanks! I do love the pandas, but the giraffes are still my favorite. Kinda ironic when you think about how short I am! :lmao:

I miss the days when I could pick out Chelsea's clothes for her. She won't even wear Disney shirts anymore. :(

I am with Jill, Tammie! You are cracking me up!!! :lmao::rotfl2:

Okay, I love that last picture of you wearing your Vera bag. You do not look as if you have a teenager!!!!!!!!!! ;) Watch out Charles. Lol. I'm telling you Chelsea is sooo cute and Connor is still the baby with his cute self!

The man and I are on vaca this week and will be heading to one of our favorite zoos in our area - Southwicks Zoo. It's a 45 minute drive but totally worth it. It's in the middle of the woods and so it's totally not your "normal" zoo atmosphere. Kind of like parts of AK you feel much more immersed.

They have such a wide variety of animals - tigers, chimpanzees, a jaguar, elephants, giraffe, camels, alligators, baboons, lots of small primates, zebra, ostrich, rhinos...

They also have a deer park with free-roaming deer that you can feed. Seriously, some of them are like puppies. See below, a video of me (in green - pardon my backside almost the whole time), BF (in light blue), my brother (in yellow) and his fiance (filming) hanging with a deer we named Sheila.

A very interesting nature walk

Great rest of the Zoo report:thumbsup2 Should be down in Atlanta over Memorial Day weekend to celebrate some cousins graduations...

My Mom just got back w/ Georgia Tech stuff for the kids (cousin who goes there and 1 will be in fall)

GREAT zoo pictures Jackie! Looks like such a fun day! LOVE the new Vera's too ;) So, is the summer trip still a secret? I am sorry if you answered this already but you are a very popular girl and I missed some posts!:goodvibes

Thank you! Your two will be just like Chelsea and Connor! :goodvibes Sadly, I am old enough to have a teenager -- I have the gray hair to prove it.

And stay off the back roads after it rains! :lmao:

Yep! It's the same here in Georgia!

Enjoy your time off, Tink! I checked out the website for Southwick -- it looks like a lot of fun! They also have some great souvenirs! :rotfl:

That deer was too funny just following along with your group like it was part of it! :lmao:

Have a great time Nikki!

::yes::

Have fun when you come to Atlanta! Are you planning on doing any of the touristy things?

We are Tech fans here -- in fact, one of my first "birthday" gifts from Charles was tickets to the Florida State/Tech game. (We had to have a subtle discussion about what constitutes appropriate birthday gifts after that! :lmao:) I harbor a secret hope that one of our kids will end up there -- great school and 35 minutes from home -- a mother's dream! ;)

Thanks, Diane! Yes, the summer trip is still a secret. I am not sure how long that will last since I will need to buy things like beach chairs for this one. I don't know if the kids will notice all of that or not.
