Top Priority Reservations

Hi everyone. I am trying to figure out which dining and fast pass reservations are the hardest to come by, and therefore, should be booked first. Is there a post about this somewhere? We are Disneyland vets, but this will only be our second time visiting the world, and our first time with our son.

Our list of reservations would be:

Day 1: Boma
Day 2: Star Wars dessert party, Sci-Fi, Toy Story Midway Mania, ToT, the new Slinky coaster if it’s tier 2.
Day 3: CRT (breakfast), 7DMT, Peter Pan, HM, maybe Skipper Canteen for dinner
Day 4: Frozen Ever After, Mission: Space, Spaceship earth.
Day 5: FOP, EE, Kilimanjaro Safari, Tusker House breakfast, maybe yak and yeti dinner?
Day 6: Sanaa, 7DMT, Peter Pan, PotC.

I know the FOP will be the hardest to come by. Will breakfast at CRT also be difficult at 6 months + 2 days? Are there any other reservations on my list that are top priority?

Any help is greatly appreciated! The last and only time we visited, it was just my husband and I, and we did everything “wrong”. No reservations, no fast passes, visited during one of the busiest times. We still had a great time, but hoping for smoother sailing this trip!

The only dining reservation that will be tricky is CRT. So book that first and then go do the others. Also, not to be nitpicker but the restaurant is Tusker house not Tuskegee :) FOP- go straight to your AK day first to try and snag this. Mine Train and Frozen are your next priority FP, so go straight to the day you want one, then directly to the day you want the other. Don't worry so much about getting a whole day done at once.

Thanks! I figured there was a post dedicated to this, but somehow I missed it! :confused3

Great! Thanks so much! Tuskegee House  Sometimes autocorrect really misses the mark.

I think the strategies at WDW vary a lot more among the experts than at DLR where there seems to be a lot more consensus on most things.

One WDW strategy I definitely subscribe to is built-in rest days - or at least half rest days. Your schedule has five straight days of parks. Especially when it is warmer out (say May-September) that will wear out most people - it does me and especially my DW.

If you only have those five days and want to cram as much as possible, then I would at minimum suggest you do not plan FP+ and ADRs all day every day. Somewhere around Day 4 maybe plan differently (such as all AM or PM FPs). If it is possible to plan an entire off-day and do a Day 7 then consider that. I would definitely do that myself.

There are lots of options on off days. Things I often do is plan to see a movie at Disney Springs. And/or hang by the pool. And/or see Hoop-Dee-Doo Revue. And/or shop (!) at DS with DW. Anything to keep walking to a minimum and sleeping to a maximum and inside air conditioned areas as much as possible.

We are planning on skipping Illuminations and leaving early on our Epcot day to swim at our hotel (AKL), and then Day 6 we’ll be at our hotel until the Halloween party begins. Would you suggest adding another day as a rest day? I’m with you and definitely like to break up out to park days with some rest and relaxation. Thanks!

Don’t make an ADR for Y&Y. Join the Landry’s Select Club instead.

It costs $25 to join that they credit back to your bill the first time you use the card. They will give you another $25 for your birthday which can fall anytime the month of your visit plus the first 15 days of the following month. Hint—nobody will ever check on the date you provide.

The card gets you the next available table. No need for an ADR and I gotta tell you that we love the food and drinks there. The atmosphere, decor and service are all top notch.

The Yak Attack is one of my favorite drinks at Disney, and the Kobe burger I had there last time was fantastic. I got it with the mushroom topping and smoked Gouda cheese, and it was outstanding. :)

If you can plan in an entire rest day, my advice is to do it.

A variant on that is a special case for like AK. Maybe you have a day where you plan to rest but you get night time FPs for FOP so you can ride it a second time. You rest all day then head out maybe at dinner, do FOP and EE a second time. Then maybe leave AK early. This is also a good opportunity to use a FP on ROL. So get FPs for FOP/EE/ROL with an early ROL show and you leave after so you are not out late.

I have never done special event parties so maybe others can help you figure that out. That is also a possibility on a rest day but since those go late (I believe) you will not get the benefit of an early night to bed for the following day.

When I have a rest day my priority is to rest of course. But I also plan a late night the evening before. This is usually like for fireworks at MK (great show by the way) or Illuminations at Epcot. But MK usually stays open latest and is a good park for a day before rest day. You can stay until park closing. Then on rest day everyone sleeps in as late as they want. Then also on rest day you get to bed as earlier as possible so you are geared and ready to go at rope drop on the morning after rest day.
