Top of the World.

Yep, I remember the Top of the World! We went there for dinner while on our honeymoon in 1979. Al Martino was the entertainment that night. We were staying at the Contemporary for $60.00 per night! LOL.

does anyone remember riding the monorail and seeing the Grand Floridian as it was being built? I also remember walking over to the Disney Inn, before it became Shade of Green, and having the nicest lunch in the restaurant there. That was back in 1992, too. I miss those days a little....

I sure do! I was fascinated with the construction and was sure that I would stay there one day.

My DH took me to the Top of the World on our first trip to WDW. I had never been on a plane, never been on a real vacation since I was 14 really, so staying at the CR, dinner at the Top and then just looking out from the outdoor viewing balcony was wonderful.

Several years later we took the kids and again stayed at the CR, took them to the fabulous brunch thinking that they would love it. We had the three of them and my DH 17 YO nephew and had just spent a fortune feeding them on earlier portion of our trip. There was food galore, chefs making omelets, waffles and pancakes. My two youngest made a beeline to teh Rice Krispie boxes. Yup, them putting milk in a cardboard box of cereal is one of my memories :lmao::lmao:

Does anyone remember the Empress Lilly and the character breakfast there?

I never went to Top of the World, but I did go to a character breakfast on the Empress Lilly! We dressed up and everything.

We did both the Top of the World and the Empress Lilly on my first WDW trip in 1987 - I was 9. My sister and I were both in dance school, so my mom made sure we got to do the dinner show at TOTW. I remember being there and that was the first time I ever had chocolate mouse :rotfl: The Empress Lilly was cool then - it was the far end of the Disney Marketplace or whatever they called it then. I remember when we went back 5 or 6 years later we were shocked at how much that area had changed with the addition of PI! On that trip we also did the Hoop De Doo and lunch at the Diamond Horseshoe. I'd always sort of wondered when we hadn't done that in recent years, and when they started talking about it being open this fall for free dining I finally realized they'd closed it! :rotfl: That was a fun show too!

Oh, and yes, we dressed up for all of those dinner shows - back then if we ever went out to dinner, home or vacation we dressed up. I miss those days!! Now I feel like I never get to dress up except for work which totally doesn't count!! I remember going to Cats as a kid and loving that we got dressed up to go. This winter we went to Mary Poppins on Broadway and everyone was in jeans - so not the same!

We dresses as well. I had brought our dressy clothes for dinner at Top and for our family trip the kids all had their good clothes as well. That was so much fun, we took them to the HDDR, the Polynesian Luau, the Empress Lilly and a character breakfast where the Concord Steak House used to be.

Just stop down at Fultons - the Lily is still there underneath the paint! :rotfl:

Yes I did that last week. It's not the same. I was a lot younger :lmao:
Last time I was in there it had to be 85 or 86 can't remember.

Does anybody remeber the original Chef Mickey's in LBV ? We still have the red cups that say Chef Mickey's on them and the pic's. That was back in 95 or 96 I think. :)

I miss those days too. WDW was definitely a lot smaller.

I wish WDW still operated a hotel like the Disney Inn. It had a New England bed-and-breakfast theme that was 100% removed from the bustle at the other resorts. The Garden Gallery was one of the better sit-down resort restaurants. Anyone remember the French fried ice cream?

" THE GOOD OLD DAYS" :thumbsup2

Lunch at the Diamond Horseshoe - that was a MUST DO in 87 for our family....
I can totally remember being there in 87 - that was the year our cousins came with us - and we all just love the DH Revue. Memories....keep 'em coming! Who knows - perhaps we were there at the same time!!

Yes indeed! And the Village restaurant in the Disney Village Marketplace (DTD).

My family stayed at the contempory resort from 72 to 82, yes i remember the top of the world and the gulf coast room. I even remember seeing Cheetah Rivera singing at the top of the world. Yes we would dress up for every fancy dinner. Lily and Giny's dad.

When we stayed there in the 80s, we ate at the Top of the World breakfast buffet almost every morning. It was the best! :thumbsup2
