Still in the planning stages of our early 2010 trip to WDW. My DD7 and I are planning to rent points and stay at a DVC resort. However, now comes the question of which one. It will probably be whichever one I manage to get a successful reservation at but as I'm considering the options Bay Lake Tower came up for consideration.

Can you go to the Top of the World Lounge when you are using rented points or must you be the actual owner? Anyone know???

It really depends on whether or not your KTTW card lists DVC member on it.

Many people who have rented points have been allowed up. But, there have been some members who were also asked for a DVC member card (which you would not have).

If you decide to book, plan on the possibility that you won't be allowed up because the rules can change at any time, even for DVC members.

Sorry to crash the thread but my question kind of relates!

We will be staying at BLT (my husband and I), we are both DVC members. A friend has asked if she and her husband can come along one night and watch the fireworks from the Top of the World Lounge?

They are NOT staying at BLT and are NOT DVC members - I have done a search and couldn't find anything (apart from this thread). I don't think that they would be allowed to go up with us, am I correct?

Thanks :flower3:

Per the MS website:

Due to anticipated high demand for this location, access is available only to Disney Vacation Club Members who are staying at Bay Lake Tower using their Membership (Vacation Points or cash), guests staying in the room with that Member, and guests who are staying in a room reserved by a DVC Member with Vacation Points. Access is limited and available on a first-come, first-served basis.

Since the OP and Bell30012 friends are not guests of a member staying at DVC on DVC members points then neither should be able to use TOTW Lounge. However. some renters do have the DVC member line on their KTTW and get up to the tower. Others are turned away when they cannot produce a DVC member card. Some DVC members have taking friends from another resort up to the TOTW Lounge and others have been turned away when all members of a party do not have a KTTW card showing they are staying BLT as DVC members.

So the proper answer is no to both.

renters will almost always get access to the TOTW in practice - since DVC members staying elsewhere don't get access to the TOTW, i'm surprised they have ever asked for the blue member card.

technically, no.

(...but if you aren't pushing the occupancy to the limit, you could possibly add them to the reservation so they get KTTW cards...but if your KTTW cards are set up for charging purchases, that might be a problem, though. unless they are super-close friends, it's not really workable.)

A few weeks ago I was asked to show my actual member card, not just my kttw card. I guess it depends on the CM at the podium if you'll get to go up or not.

If you rent a reservation from a member, you have compensated that member. At that point the member is required to notify Member Services that they are being compensated for the reservation. Since the OP compensated the member for the reservation, they are technically not entitled to go to the TOTWL because they are not entitled to any DVC member perks.

For the other member who wants to bring guests up to the TOTWL, they would have to be on your reservation to be entitled to go up there with you.

However, both the non-registered friend and the non-member renting the reservation may be allowed to go up to the TOTWL. It depends on the CM at the elevator.

Thanks, this is what I thought :thumbsup2

So we could chance it? I'll see what they think. I'd rather be able to go somewhere we can definately all go to, the beach at the Polynesian was a good spot.

Thanks :goodvibes

You could also watch from the 4th floor viewing area at the Contemporary.

OK, let's see if I got this right. I am staying at BLT in a couple of months with one of my close friends as my guest. We are both on the same reservation. Assuming that the TOFWL isn't filled to capacity and I have my DVC member card, we will both be allowed in?
