Top of the world lounge closing??

I see on the DVC website it says "Disney Vacation Club Members staying at any Disney-owned-and-operated hotel at Walt Disney World Resort (whether they booked with Vacation Points or cash) may enjoy access to one of the vacation kingdom's most exclusive spaces: Top of the World Lounge atop Bay Lake Tower at Disney's Contemporary Resort through December 29, 2017."

Does this mean the lounge may not be open after this year? Or does it always say this? I love this area and am really hoping its not closing.

It's partly to indicate that it's more restrictive for the NYE fireworks.

And Disney can rent the TOTWL out for events that are not related to DVC. They own lounge area and can do what they want with it. That is why many of us encourage other members to stop by the lounge and enjoy a drink and appetizer and then watch the fireworks to let DVC and Disney know we enjoy TOTWL.

I thought the lounge area was owned by BLT and leased to Disney.

ABelle08: When TOWL first opened, only those staying at BLT could use it. Some time later, they announced that any DVC member staying on property could use the lounge, however they only extend that privilege one year at a time. There are also dates when only BLT guests can use if (July 3, 4 and Dec 30, 31) because it gets very crowded those nights.

We also enjoy going up to the lounge so I hope they continue to let those of us not staying at BLT to use it. The more money we spend up there, the more likely they are to continue to extend that policy each year.

They are similar in so far as you have side views, so the castle is not a focal point. Personally, I do not go to Cali Grill nearly as often once they opened the lounge. I think the Cali Grill's view is a little bit better, but we mostly eat at the Wave now, and go up to BLT for the fireworks.

I also think the Cali Grill viewing is a bit better as it isn't as far off to the side as TOTWL. But I wouldn't do it if I wouldn't normally have eaten there anyway.

You're very welcome!! The TOTW is so much nicer when there is a good crowd there. We used it several times last Sept and really enjoyed the window view, food and drinks. And it was great to find out that TIW is honored at TOTW even though the website doesn't mention it.

I suspect that the TOTWL was left off the TiW website because the space is not open to the general public.
