Top Chef - Season Two

Glad to see Frank go, too. Cackled when he spewed that nonsense about "true chefs" being gentlemen. And this was after: a) threatening Marcel with a beating for moving his toothbrush; and b) being the only contestant (that had eggs) that was perfectly content to let Michael twist in the wind during the beach challenge.
Good points. I agree.

I also agree Marcel has become less annoying as others have become more. Like Mia this episode. So full of herself. As DH (a culinary grad) says - "what isn't she an expert at"? She seems sneaky to me.

I'm glad Cliff didn't go. I think if I'd been on that beach I would have gone and gotten myself a bowl of his eggs, LOL. :thumbsup2

Anyone else craving scrambled eggs and salt air? :scratchin
It was a good episode. As a boy scout leader who has cooked over open fires before, I can appreciate the challenge that these contestants faced but I do not feel sorry for them. You can do some amazing things over an open fire.

I agree with you about the open fire, but I think they should have been told what style of cooking they would have been faced with. The challenges this season have been rather annoying.

If either Cliff or Sam had been sent knife packing, I'm not sure I would have watched anymore. You just can tell how good they both are and it would have been totally bogus for them to have been eliminated in a challenge of this sort.

I think that the challenge to cook at the beach was a good challenge but I think they should have told them about fire pit cooking. It would still be a challenge to be gourmet but it would have let them plan a little. I am surprised that there was little in the way of things like pancakes or that type of thing.

I agree!
I can't believe they let Elia use frozen waffles and win the main challenge. Do you remember last season when the judges got mad when the contestants used boxed cake mixes? :confused3 I know they let them use strange things during the quick-fire challenge, but I thought they expected more during the main challenge. I think Cliff, Sam and Frank ended up in the bottom 3 because they were trying to cook everything from scratch.

Marcel used what sounded like swanyay to describe his skill or whatever during the quickfire challange. My DH and I just looked at eachother the second he said it like what the... :furious: I'm not mad at him but he is just slightly pretentious. :rolleyes1

Betty, Betty, Betty... Betty is batty.

Fave is cliff. He is a cool, laid back, likeable guy. He seems to be passionate and talented without being arrogant or obnoxious. Loved Cliffs reaction when he was in the bottom 2. He's in it to win it.

I like Ilan. He is quiet, skilled and serious about his work. Sam is passionate and a little emotional. He is talented and a little cute. These two are both contenders.

Frank needs to go cook for the mob. :scared:

Mia is an expert. She does not need this show.

Michael is adoreable but out of his league.

Carlos...dude...a 4 hour salad? :sad2:

I was watching one of the repeat airings of the most recent Top Chef episode and they had a promo for the show that they ran. I don't know if anyone else has seen this but it had me laughing.

They asked the cheftestants to name their favorite All-American food and then cut to the various chefs. Carlos said fried chicken, Cliff said a chocolate chip cookie, Marisa said macaroni and cheese, Marcel said a BLT, Elia said a hamburger with a sunny side up egg and french fries, Frank said Yankee pot roast and then there was Michael, who said...

wait for it......

In the final analysis, MICHAEL WILL OWN US ALL!

Just kiddin'.

In actuality, MARCEL will. Mwoo-hoo-ha-ha! :ssst:

I never really had an opinion on Cliff, positive or negative. But, after this episode, I think he is a major jerk. He not only threw Mia under the bus, he did Michael as well.

So who do you think was going to get the axe before Mia quit? I would like to know. :p

My gut says Elia. I wonder if we will ever find out.

I think that Elia was headed out. Mia is a very intersting person. I really admire her decision

Mia has no right to complain about being thrown under the bus when she did the very same thing to Betty.

Wasn't Stephen from season 1 supposed to be featured in this weeks episode?? Or maybe I just missed him, but I don't remember seeing him during this episode.

True. And I had totally forgotten about that.

I think the true side of Cliff came out last night...

I was a big fan until last night. I'm also glad Mia left because she basically shot herself in the toe.

I'm a true believer in the fact that you tell people how to treat you. If you don't come across respectfully, people will not offer you respect. If her ideas were not taken seriously, it's based on how she carried herself previously. Her ideas were great ones and if she was an effective person, she would have been heard.

I have a person like that as an employee. She is highly insecure from something in her childhood. As a result we are all victims of her insecurity and the fact that "no one takes her seriously". There is usually a good reason for that.

What did you think of Marcel (sp?) at the judges table talking about how HE really didn't need someone as the leader....

LOL.
