Top Chef Chicago (Spoiler Thread)

Okay, I'm watching the beginning of this episode for the third or fourth time. Sitting at the computer (yes, even in the middle of the night) instead of on the sofa should keep me awake long enough to see whose knives got packed :teeth:

One thing I did pick up on during this watching is the rice - "How about this?" is very different from "Use this". Dale didn't MAKE Lisa use a specific type of rice - never mind that common sense should prevent Lisa from doing anything with rice, but that's just my opinion. There's this word? "No"? As in, "No, that's not sticky rice, it won't work"?.

Yes, I should be asleep but I NEED to see the end of the episode...

ITA. Lisa should have been gone weeks ago but she DEFINITELY should have been gone after last night. I don't know what on Earth it is that the judges like about her so much. She consistantly makes bad dishes and she has the worst attitude I have ever seen.

Yes, Dale was a butthead last night. He doesn't have the greatest of attitudes either, but not only do I truly feel like his attitude is WORSE with Lisa around as she brings out the worst in him, but I'm also tired of seeing people throw him under the bus. I guess I won't have to worry about that anymore since the judges are making NO sense this season.

I was glad to see that Spike was safe...he's not my favorite, but it at least made it a 50/50 chance that Lisa would go home.

Watch they'll probably get rid of him next week and keep Lisa AGAIN :sad2:

I agree. I assumed she would be the one to go home and am hoping she is gone next week. She is having trouble with the basic things like rice and risotto. While Dale was a pain, I think he was a much better chef than Lisa.

I am hoping Stephanie goes all the way. I hope I didn't just jinx's her!

We really liked her at the beginning of the season. Now we never know whether we're gonna like her or not. It seems to me that they are setting it all up for an Anotonia and Richard final 2. Which stinks because we don't like Antonia AT ALL.

Lisa appears to be a much less skilled chef than Dale, but as the Executive Chef, he should have told her, "I don't know what this laska (sp?) stuff is and how it is supposed to taste, so no, we are not putting it on the menu." And he should have been able to catch a rotten avocado before he dropped it into his halo halo. They would have been better off if, instead of "Asian fusion" they had chosen to do a seafood themed-restaurant and incorporated the Asian flavors into some of their dishes.
I hate Lisa and think she looks filthy - has her hair every NOT looked greasy and stringy? - but I understand why Dale was sent home. Too bad Lisa didn't win the EC coin toss.

I hope they go back to a final 2 this season and it is Steph v. Richard b/c I think they are the most creative and competent of the remaining chefs. Antonia has made some solid food, but I don't find her very innovative, and Spike is a [word I shouldn't say here]. Lisa is a pig.

I think they should replace Lisa with Jennifer. I liked her so much better and thought she was a much better cook.

I can not stand Lisa either and I did not like Dale much either. I am rooting for Stephanie first then Richard or Antonia.

You said exactly what I was thinking. I cannot stand Lisa and while I understood that Dale, as EC, should bear the responsibility, no one listens to the EC on this show. Lisa is just nasty and I don't think that she can cook to the level of the others.

I wonder if the judges keep some of the testier ones for the drama?

I like Stephanie, Antonia and Richard. It was funny that they ended up on the same team again, they can work together becasue they no how to respect each other.

I like Stephanie too. I also like Antonia~although she reminds me of Sarah from last season who I did not care for. I did (do) like Dale. I also like Richard.

I can't stand Lisa and she should have been the one to go this week. Looks to me like Dale took the fall for Lisa's ineptitude. This is the second week in a row that Lisa didn't cook the rice properly. Geez! How can you be a top chef and not know how to cook rice!?! And someone needs to smack that attitude right out of her. She also needs to stop blaming other people for her shortcomings and mistakes. Last week someone supposedly turned the heat up on her rice...sabotage...yeah, right. This week, it's Dale's fault that he handed her the wrong type of rice.

Uhhhhhh! I'm soooooo aggravated! Everyone had some issue tonight and frozen scallops was probably not a good idea especially when you have first choice, but.........Lisa needs to go, like yesterday.

The promo for next episode looked ominous. Do you suppose Richard hurts himself?

I don't like this season very much. The contestants are all very qualified but something is missing. Maybe it's due to all the lame challenges. It's not as bad as the season 2, but not as good as the seasons 1 and 3. It's like the Star Trek movies except in reverse: the odd number season, good; even number, bad.

By the way, I am disappointed Charlie Trotter never came on to judge.

Maybe it's the general demeanor. I know we've discussed this before, and it could possibly be due at least in part to editing - but is Richard the ONLY contestant this season whose vocabulary isn't peppered with obscenities?

Watching again (yes, I fell asleep during the first airing and woke up fifteen minutes before the end of the 1 AM run :teeth:), I liked Antonia's response when Lisa complained about the heat from keeping the flame high so it wouldn't die.
Lisa: "What if I die?"
Antonia: "Well then you won't be going to Puerto Rico!"

Why did Spike want Antonia to get sent home?

I think the final 4 would be perfect if Dale were in Lisa's place. I've rooting for Stephanie or Antonia!

I'm rooting for either Stephanie or Richard to win. :)

ITA, while Dale could be difficult, I think he was a much better chef than Lisa. I can't believe she has made it this far. I loved it when Antonia made the not going to PR comment!

Finally, Spike is gone. He wasn't this season's worst chef, but he really wasn't up to the caliber of Stephanie, Richard, Dale or even Antonia. Tom called him out on being in the bottom 7 times. I thought this was a little unfair, since there have been so many group/team challenges and in each team challenge for which he was int he bottom group, he wasn't always called out as one of the worst (see: Wedding Wars, where his sea bass was the fav of that bunch).

Here's to hoping Lisa is cut first next week. At least she cut off her grease-mop hair (and replaced it with an unflattering spiky 'do, but that is still better than the dirty looking hair she sported all season).

Does anyone know if it will be a final 3 cook-off EC, like last season (which I thought sucked), or if they will be booting two and then doing a final EC? If it is a final 2, I'm rooting for a Stephanie vs. Richard match-up for sure!

I am soooooo sick of smug Lisa, I could just slap her! I'd replace her AND Antonia though, I can't stand her either.

Love Stephanie and Richard though. My top 4 would be Stephanie, Richard, Spike or Andrew, and Dale

Bourdain called Lisa right. He said that with her posture, she wasn't about to accept constructive criticism from them or from anyone else.

I wish she wasn't part of most of the season instead of all of it. She should have packed her knives weeks ago.

While Spike may not have been the worst chef, I liked him a whole lot more than Lisa who proved she couldn't make rice.... ever.
