Top 5 Places you SHOULDNT eat

1. ABC Commissary
2. Bongos
3. Sci Fi (will go there for snack and drink though)
4. LTT (service was horrible)
5. Rainforest Cafe (YUCK!)

I LOVED the food at the follow places that often get bad reviews:

1. Hollywood and Vine
2. POP food court
3. Biergarten

We've been really lucky that the many times that we've visited WDW, we haven't really had many bad meals. (Maybe we're just soooo hungry???)

However, the last 3 times that I've visited Disney, we've picked up some sorta bug. Wondering what is up with that....

I was really looking forward to some of these places....hmmm.... I guess we will see what happens in October.

Liberty Tree and Biergarten are the only ones we really disliked - esp. LTT bleck - dog lips!. Oh, and the diner at MGM - I think it's a 50's type place wasn't very good.

We haven't really had bad meals either....as far as getting sick after WDW, well, thousands go there every day and bring their germs with them!

We've been pretty lucky also but there was one time that my husband got so sick, we had to have a nurse come to our room and give him an IV because he was so dehydrated from throwing up:sick: I was so scared because my children were small and we were flying out the next day. The nurse said that if he wasn't well, we couldn't leave! Not that being stranded in WDW would be so bad but under those circumstances, I was a wreck!

Hmmm...

The only place I can really think of is Coral Reef....and that's simply because I dislike seafood.

We've been pretty lucky in that we have liked everywhere we've eaten! (That includes Mama Melroses, LTT, CRT...!)

The major complaint about Pecos Bill's seems to be the burgers. Have you found their other items to be any good?

We have never had "bad" meals. However, I don't care for the average everyday buffet. Crystal Palace and Chef Mickeys aren't my favorite.... Its not bad, but I can go to Golden Corral, ya kno?

So those of you who keep mentioning these places in compared to chain restuarants, what/where do you usually eat out when you are at home? I personally LOVE Olive Garden and am use to food from places like Chilis, Fridays, etc. I'm not expecting gourmet or anything. I also made mostly breakfast ADR's since it's usually hard to mess up scrambled eggs, sausage, and things like that and think a big breakfast is the best way to start off the day and keep us going.

Is WCC really that bad? Was the meat extra dry and hard to chew or something? We have breakfast and dinner ADR's here during our stay. But we also happen to be staying at WL so it's easy.

As far as the pizza places mentioned, what would you compare them to? Are you from Chicago or NY by chance and use to the best pizza in the USA? I love pizza personally and have eaten frozen pizzas heated in my oven, CiCi's, and delivery from Pizza Hut, Papa Johs, and others and they all have their own special taste, but none of them were so bad I thought I would spit it out.

Now I've heard different things recently about 1900 Park Fare so am a little skeptible of our dinner ressie their our first night, but hopefully it will all work out.

Just wondering about the bad food comments, not the service part.

TIA

My five are: Mama Melrose
Bongos
Wilderness Canyon
Sci Fi
Rainforest

Don't worry Disney is GREAT!

People forget that this is Theme Park food. I'd give it a A+ for theme park food.

One problem- is that Disney is so busy, that if a few servers miss work one night, at any particular restaurant.... and a packed restaurant gets very slow, and food gets cold.

Also you have a few restaurants here that really do serve dull to bad food. Its because they are so jam packed that they get away with serving cheap food.

So this thread is good for singling them out.

But on the other hand... you get some people that think Taco Bell is Mexican food (or they have the best Mexican restaurant in their city) and either-way are shocked when they eat at Epcot and they get severed a Mexican dish, and can't recognize anything beyond the chips and salsa. That why 50% love it and 50% hate it. Disney does try different things sometimes... and if you guess wrong when ordering and get a dish of beans and rice that you don't recognize...you're not going to be happy.

Also remember people have HUGE expectations. And are being charged HUGE prices.... so even when small things go wrong...it can turn ugly real fast. A lot of families are in a pressure cooker trying to pull off the perfect vacation... and we've all seen the melt-downs.

90% of the restaurants at Disney are great-to-good. There are 10% that are poor-to-bad and they get brought up here over-and-over again. But don't let the odd mention of Coral Reef or Cape May toss you for a loop.

Disney is the best theme park in the world and has the best theme park food in the world.

Not fine dining.... and with millions of people served every week... if just .0001% get a cold meal, a dry chicken, or a jerk for a waiter.... you are going to hear about it on DisBoards. :dance3:

But Disney does do a few dumb things when it tries to give us more "healthy" dry stale wheat buns for our new healthy hamburgers, while selling us tons of rice crispy treats double dipped in chocolate

Don't equate "healthy wheat" with "dry and stale". There are plenty of delicious, moist, squishy, yummy whole wheat or multi-grain buns. I have not yet experienced the changed buns at WDW (but I will in less than 2 months!!!), but I know that if the problem is "dry and stale", that could also happen with white buns if they are allowed to go stale.

I agree with the rest of the post though - you can get recommendations and opinions here, but your best bet is to experience these places yourself. When at WDW, try doing a "walk by" of a restaurant you may be nervous of. See what other people are eating and how the restaurant seems to be doing (slow, backed up, rude service). Then change if you have to.

I do not expect WDW restaurants to be Chilis, Olive Garden, etc. I expect better, and more often than not, WDW restaurants deliver.

It's always interesting to see how different opinions can be.

1. Plaza Restaurant - our worst service experience ever at WDW
2. Pizza Planet - tried a couple of times, not good either time for us
3. Rose and Crown - bland, boring
4. Raglan Road - heavy, greasy food, really don't get why so popular
5. Sci Fi - another I guess I just don't "get", we've eaten there about 3 times, once would have been enough, just to see and say we've done it.

BUT, we love the RC at DAK! I'm surprised it's on so many worst lists. We've had great meals, wonderful servers, although it is way expensive IMHO. A lunch for 5 (3 adults, 2 kids), although we did go all out: had the big platter appetizer, everyone had a meal, kid's got these big specialty drinks, we had the volcano dessert and DH may have had an alcoholic beverage, can't recall - anyway, with our 10% off for DVC and tip - was $175. We don't have one close to where we live so we only do it at WDW.

Also, we eat at Mama Melrose on almost every trip, out of those we had one mediocre meal, don't know what was going on that year :confused3 . Skipped it the next time and then ate there again last month - and it was back to being really good.

My bottom five:

1. Rainforest Cafe DTD. Overpriced mediocre food with lousy service.
2. Marrakesh. Nothing wrong with the food per se, but not to my taste.
3. ABC Commissary. Say no more.
4. Mama Melrose. Not a good experience. The only redeeming feature was the desserts.
5. Liberty Tree Tavern. It tasted like a meal straight from my local freezer store.

I agree that everyone should try out restaurants for themselves. I agree that the food at the Sci Fi isn't that great, but it's worth sticking to burgers and shakes and eating at lunch time, just to take in the atmosphere.

And I LOVE ESPN Club, though I've seen a few people mention that it in their bottom five.

To each his own.

That was a wonderful reply, thanks :thumbsup2

I am a vegetarian. Last week when I was at WDW for two days:

I HATED both tofu dishes at Tomorrowland Noodle (no wonder it's always closed) and also HATED the cuban sandwich from the Seasons Food Court in the Land Pavillion (it had mustard, they REFUSED to make me one without mustard - how unDisney!).

I LOVED the Asian salad at ABC Commissary and the veggie burgers at Cosmic Ray's and at Pecos Bills.

My one and only bad meal was at the ABC Comissary The only place I have ever thrown out food because it was inedible. We were actually there last week, and I said I would rather go hungry than eat there. And I did! What is with the lack of decent counter-service in the DS?:confused3

I have ate at many differnet places on Disney property, and that is truly the only place I would not recommend.
