Toontown being tossed out for Star Wars land???

Do you have a link to the site? I'm curious where it's coming from.

Yep. Here it is: http://www.*********.com/toontown-replaced-star-wars-land-disneyland-resort-200111/

Like I said, I'm not really sure how I feel about this. We're in Utah, so Disneyland is now my "home" park (only a 9 hour drive away!), but I grew up on the east coast, so we also go to WDW as often as possible. I had been consoling myself with the fact that I could still see Toontown at DLR, but now it looks like that might not be true.

Of course, the Disney rumor mill is rampant with things that never come to pass...but sometimes they do.

I'm hoping someone more "in the know" can fill us in on what they've heard. Disney never tells me anything. :lmao:

Ok, replace those *** in the link with chip and co (eliminate the spaces) Apparently something isn't allowing the direct link.

I think Star Wars Land would be infinitely better than ToonTown. BUT... I hope it doesn't happen. ToonTown is very Disney, while StarWars is...StarWars. It fits well into Tomorrowland, but not as whole area in DL. If they ever open a third gate, then definitely have a SWL there.

ToonTown could definitely use a face lift, though. Does anyone even remember RescueRangers? So why is Gadget's Coaster there? And Roger Rabbit is NOT a kid movie, so it makes no sense to have a ride based on a movie that kids shouldn't see and adults haven't seen in 20 years. There should definitely be a Phineas & Ferb attraction/coaster, and turn the Cartoon Spin into something way better that doesn't break down all day long.

Agree with everything here. Why did I never think of a Phineas and Ferb ride? That's such a good idea! And the Cartoon Spin needs to go.

Ugh I would really hate to lose Toontown!

I actually enjoy that you kind of have to LOOK for Star Wars characters and merchandise in DL. Spotting a stormtrooper is always a real treat. And I like the training academy, as it's something that's not always there, and you have to catch it at the right times. An entire land would be overkill. Ever since Disney bought Star Wars I've already been so overwhelmed by the merchandise EVERYWHERE that it kind of ruined me wanting to buy anything Star Wars related. But as it looks unavoidable with the new movie coming out, at most I would enjoy a small "area" in Tomorrowland dedicated to SW, such as in the aforementioned Innoventions area. If they built one high profile SW ride and a Mos Eisley Cantina restaurant, that wouldn't be too bad.

I am also highly against a whole land themed to one property in general. I am in the smaller portion of people that didn't care for Carsland. I liked RSR, and Flo's was cute, but felt the rest of the space could have been better utilzed.

Wouldn't like Marvel Land either (and I'm a comic book artist!) Again just too much of one thing. But I'd love to see a high profile Marvel ride with a few characters over in CA.

I have seen these rumors and also rumors that Star Wars will be replacing Tomorrowland at DL. I am not buying into either one. I suspect the only park that will get a Star Wars makeover/expansion is probably DHS at WDW.

Just 18 months ago, it was rumored that Tomorrowland was going to be Star Wars Land before the 60th anniversary... and look what didn't happen. I don't buy it about Toontown either, for any number of reasons--closing an older-kid/adult area every night at 8pm for the fireworks makes no sense, Star Tours already being in Tomorrowland, a whole land based on a single franchise has only been done once (Cars Land).

I think a lot of people (including Disney CMs) have these grand ideas, speak a little too soon, or they overhear something, and, since they are CMs, their idea/dream/thought is treated as a foreshadowing of things to come. Nothing malicious, of course, but some fanciful thinking, or something overheard, and it becomes a game of Disney-telephone, and it goes from a Star Wars ride taking over Innoventions to Star Wars taking over all of Toontown.

I expect plenty of other rumors to surface as well, but I doubt toontown is turning into star wars land.

Obviously there are plans to incorporate both star wars & marvel into the parks, but I'm just going to wait until there's an official announcement.

And I agree that many of these rumors aren't malicious in nature, but it could just be an idea or suggestion that was possibly tossed out, then quickly shelved or overheard or something.

I once heard something about an 3rd park focusing on marvel.....but like so many other things we hear, it was just a rumor.

Not that I think there is anything at all to this but I am just curious if this rumor had a location for the 3rd gate? I can't really think of a good area, space-wise, unless it is going to be a considerably smaller park that the two present ones.

I don't remember the specifics, but it tossed out general location info for the all the property that disney owns in the area.

I myself have always wondered if they did build a 3rd park, where would it be.

I assume it wouldn't be as convenient as the "park hopping" distance between dl & dca.

I really really hope that's just some wild rumor and not even close to being true :( I don't know how they could get rid of Toon Town when it's literally the home of the Mouse himself!

Exactly! And it IS a wild rumor, made up by MiceChat. MiceChat ALWAYS makes up big fat lies just to get attention and because they have personal vendettas against things like Toontown, Autopia, Nemo, Muppet-Vision, etc.

Please do not pay ANY attention to things that come from MiceChat.

Seems like I remember hearing the rumor as well, and it would be where the parking garage is on Disney Way.

Although Autopia is pretty amusing I would love to see it replaced with a low to the ground Star Wars coaster in the trees. They could repurpose Innoventions into the queue and show building, put in a 2nd Star Wars ride (or Endor shops/restaurants) where the Autopia queue and loading area currently are, and have enough space left over by the Matterhorn to add a ride or 2 to Fantasyland in the future. Star Wars may not be a perfect fit for Tommorowland but it fits better there than anywhere else in the park and honestly would be a better fit than a car ride.

Star Wars land sounds like something that would be better suited to DCA... I think they need to keep DL original and not add in stuff like that

I used to love Toon Town, but it needs something new and a fresh coat of paint to brighten it up a little.

It would also be a shame to see Tomorrowland go but again it needs a bit of an update to put the "Tomorrow" back into Tomorrowland.

Ohhh...A coaster like the chase through the trees on Endor, complete with Ewok huts.:cool1:

I love how much immersion, atmosphere, and attention to detail can happen when a whole land is devoted to a movie. I LOVE Carsland. And I would LOVE a Star Wars land....

We usually go to WDW every year, but went to DLR for the first time a few months ago. I'm glad we got to see Toon Town since they don't have it at WDW anymore, but I wouldn't be heartbroken for it to be eliminated for Star Wars....

Please level Innoventions to the ground, and replace it with Star wars. I never could understand what Innoventions was doing at DL.

Agreed, 100%. We allocated 60 minutes to Innoventions thinking it might bear some resemblence to the one at WDW and were out of there in 10 minutes.

I am not a fan of ToonTown because our kids our 19 and 21 but I fully support keeping some attractions for the younger visitors. There is plenty to do without demolishing ToonTown.

Aren't the fireworks launched from near Toon Town which is the reason for the early closure?
Seems problematic to me for a theme better suited for the evening.

I agree, where would Mickey live? The suburbs?

Not a fan of ToonTown, honestly, but I wouldn't be thrilled to see it demolished for Star Wars theming. It's a great place for little kids to enjoy the park and I think it should stay right where it is.

Star Wars already has a presence and another attraction in Tomorrowland makes more sense if they want to capitalize on their purchase of the franchise.

we've always enjoyed toontown.
It's nice to have toontown in addition to fantasyland for the younger disney fans.
When the grandkids were really little, they liked to spend hours wandering through all toontown has to offer.
Even thought they are older now, they still like to play around there.

I'd like to see toontown stay.....
