Took the direct plunge at Riviera

Right toward the end of the current incentives, I have taken the plunge and bought two favorite weeks at Riviera, week 6 and 39. My wife and I like being away from the summer heat so the weeks (mid-Feb and late Sept) make sense and they add up to 252 points, so I can take advantage of the increase in Welcome Home incentive at that point break. Special thanks to the member referral I received that brought down the cost even more!

Thanks to FW39, my guide was able to get an August use year. Since I'll get a points refill in just a bit over a month, I'm taking advantage of Magical Beginnings to reduce the upfront price.

I'm very appreciative of all the discussions on these forums as they really helped me narrow down how I wanted to get started with DVC. I got off the phone with my guide mid-day Friday and I'm putting the contracts in the name of a trust, so there's still a few days before everything settles out but I've got my login to the site and one contract's points have been loaded so it feels very real!

Now to start planning my next trip, maybe take advantage of some member extras, and check out the new incentives (on Tuesday, I think).

Welcome, neighbor! Great name too.
Thanks for the welcome! I may be a bit of a heretic in the Magic Kingdom, but EPCOT and Hollywood Studios are my favorite parks, so one of BCV, BWV, or RIV made the most sense for my first home resort. Marvel and Star Wars are big favorites, too. When it came time to pick a forum name, what better than the name Centurion Tal Marik finally settled on for us?

Congrats! Though I'm not sure how much break from the heat you'll get in late September unless you live on Mercury 😂

Well, it’s less hot than July and August (it’s the last week of September) and week 39’s price is much lower than week 40’s. And there’s always walking around World Showcase and grabbing drinks along the way to cool you down!

I have two direct and one resale contract at RIV. As for the resale contract, you mean I have to stay at RIV? Okay, twist my arm.
I may very well look at a resale contract either at BCW/BWV or more likely at one of the Magic Kingdom resorts, but I wanted to get started as direct first.

I hear you. You know what to expect that week for sure, but people often get surprised to discover late September is still definitely summer in Orlando.

But we love going at that time as well. Lower prices, low(ish) crowds, food and wine festival and MNSSHP going. And definitely somewhat cooler.

Welcome home fellow Epcot enthusiast! Just seeing your handle brought back fond memories of that preshow with my family. (And I obviously support handles that reflect beloved attractions!)

I think a lot of us West Coast DISboards folks think EPCOT and DHS are better because they have more unique attractions (compared to MK, especially before Tron and 7DMT opened). I think all the parks are great, but we wouldn’t travel to WDW as often if not for Epcot.
