Took the direct plunge at Riviera

Welcome home fellow Epcot enthusiast! Just seeing your handle brought back fond memories of that preshow with my family. (And I obviously support handles that reflect beloved attractions!)

I think a lot of us West Coast DISboards folks think EPCOT and DHS are better because they have more unique attractions (compared to MK, especially before Tron and 7DMT opened). I think all the parks are great, but we wouldn’t travel to WDW as often if not for Epcot.
Thanks for the welcome! Your reply made me stop and ponder for a bit. I’m from Arkansas and my work takes me to Orlando frequently for conferences. Because of that, I tend to forget DL out there on the west coast. I’ve been to DL twice in my lifetime and I’ve been to WDW three times this year, with at least one but maybe two more trips before the year is done. I definitely like the weather at DL better and the easy walk between parks. But, a combination of factors means WDW is the park for us.

We finished our phone call this morning and went ahead as planned. 300 RIV points, Week 39, Week 50, and a 51 point third contract.

Club 39! ♣️3️⃣9️⃣
Week 50 gang gang 💯/2 😂 welcome to the 300 pt RIV club!

I may very well look at a resale contract either at BCW/BWV or more likely at one of the Magic Kingdom resorts, but I wanted to get started as direct first.
My long term plan at the moment is BLT resale to pair with my RIV points in 1BR split stays when we travel alone or studios if we bring friends or family. BLTs 1BR layout is great and the walk to MK is ideal to avoid the monorail during peak times.

You're smart to think about your vacation plans and buy points around that.

For a while there I think I was just buying points to accumulate them, without much thought as to how I was actually going to use them!

I need to take a break for a bit to see how things shake out with my current point total :)

Well considering you didn't think about you were going to use them I'd say you picked some of the best home resorts possible in my opinion.. :P

Thank you!

I love my home resorts! Didn't you used to have yours in your signature?

I was just looking at my points thinking, man, this is a lot of trips to Disney we are going to be taking!

It's all good, but definitely something to keep in mind as you buy points. How often do you really want to go?

Hahah I did but I'm looking to replace it with something new soon :P I feel like with me adding Poly in the somewhat near future I don't want to be taking up half a page with my signature

I would have assumed it's quite rare for someone to buy way more points than they can use, and I would think it's more common to buy 200-500 and realize that actually you blew all of your current points and started borrowing some and then think about adding more. I would be curious how many people actually buy points and realize "there's no way I'm going to use them all." Maybe those people just don't hang out on the Purchasing forum. :p

We're definitely having no problem using all our points at the moment!

It's just ballooned from going once a year to many times every year. Not a bad thing by any means, but DVC definitely has a way of snowballing, especially if you spend much time on this board :)

I'm already starting to feel the itch, and Poly sales are just around the corner. Yikes.

I definitely relate to that—the real “trap” as I see it is you buy a few hundred points, then you realize the sorcerer pass is a better value than 2 3-4 day hopper tickets, then you say “well we have the pass so we should do an extra visit or two” and suddenly you are blowing 600+ points a year…and by you I mean me. 🤣

I want more points but I also don’t want to spend more than 50% of our vacation days at WDW, so I think we’re going to just have AP years that we alternate with 9-18 months off to restock points and visit other continents (with perhaps a long weekend trip during the drought).
