Too much perfume

One of my co-workers really overdoes it on the perfume. She walked by my office a few minutes ago, and all's I can smell is her perfume (and my desk is a good ten feet away from the door). One time, she came into my office, and used my phone. I used the phone shortly there after, and for the rest of the day, all's I could smell was her perfume. And it's not even a nice scent. It drives everyone in the office crazy! Someone said something to her at one point, and she got better, but now she is back to using a ton of perfume.

I'm gonna go gag now. Thanks for listening.

you know - I feel your pain and all...but I found this really funny:

Can we forbid the spraying of perfume in the office? Many are allergic to these substances? Prohibit the use of perfumes, fragrances and air fresheners in the workplace.

Currently there is no Human Resource policy to prohibit the use of personal fragrances or air fresheners in the workplace. If you experience allergies or discomfort, discuss the problem with the co-worker or manager. If you find you are not able to have this discussion with the co-worker or manager, notify your Human Resource representative. They may discuss this issue with the co-worker on your behalf or work with the group to identify solutions to the problem.

This is actually on our company's website "suggestion box". I think it's funny that someone actually wanted to "prohibit" it. In all honesty - there are a few people that work here that could learn about deoderant and make this office a more pleasant place to work.

Ack! There is a girl here who you can tell whereever she has been even if she has been gone from the area for 15 minutes because the gagging, lingering stench of her perfume lingers in the air for a long while after she leaves.

And it smells awful. :faint:

Unfortunately, you can't legislate good sense. You can't tell an employee they can't wear perfume. You just have to hope they have the good sense to realize when enough is enough. It amazes me how so many don't know they're causing everyone to asphixiate as they walk through the halls.

Some of that stuff, even in small quantities, is nauseating. And then some bathe in it. :confused2

I totally sympathize with you.

I used to work at a place that as soon as I walked in the door in the morning, I could tell whether one of the ladies was in that day or not. Our department occupied an entire floor. I could tolerate the smell up until I got pregnant with my DD and as soon as I walked in it made me so sick, I had to go and throw up.

Now I just work in an small family (not mine) business office and all the other employees are sweaty men!!!

Yeah, huge pet peeve of mine. And why is it that those who wear a LOT of perfume don't even wear a good perfume? Have you ever noticed that almost all the heavy perfume wearers seem to wear the same scent? I don't get that.

A woman on my floor (NOT even in my office) is just one of these. You can tell as soon as you get into the elevator whether she's in the office yet or not. The elevator always reeks for hours after she's been in it.

What is funny is because this is a pet peeve of mine, I get paranoid when anyone compliments my perfume. LOL I always ask if I am wearing too much of it when someone says something about it.

About a month ago, I took over a job from someone else. He is being deployed, and I was asked to backfill his postion. When I took over the position, I also took over the computer, phone and cell phone. I don't know what kind of after shave/cologne he wore, but the scent still lingers on both phones. It is stronger on the cell phone, but I get a whiff of it on the regular phone too. Fortunately, it's not a bad fragrance!

They probably don't wear the good stuff because it would cost too much to keep up with it because they put so much of it on ;)

That's actually why I stopped wearing perfume all together. Too many people out there wearing way too much.... Makes me sick to my stomach. My sinuses are very sensitive to everything.

Heads up people!!! If you wear perfume and nobody compliments you on it. It's not a good sign!

Nicely spark up a conversation and ask her if she had an accident with her perfume this morning..... You know I hate when that happens.

Lisa:eek:

okay, I can't resist....

rule #1: one should not take advice on perfume from members named stinkerbelle or piglet.

no offense intended...just thought it was funny

hehehe...no problem!

I'm a fan of the "spray and walk away" move.
one time the dogger was behind me when I did this...she smelled faintly of Ralph Lauren 'Romance' for the rest of the day. DH loved it when he was cuddling with her...but he never smells the perfume on me though when I wear it. Must compliment the dogger better. heheheh

The men in my office are worse than the women! There are 2 guys who bathe in the stuff - it's soooo overwhelming!

I stick with body spray because it's lighter.

The women I know who overdo it are all using the same very expensive, designer scent. It's awful IMO. I'm still trying to figure out why anyone would think it smells good.

You can't tell an employee they can't wear perfume.

actually, at the place i used to work, they did prohibit it b/c one of the people had really bad allergies.

fortunately, where i work now, no one OD's on the perfume. i don't even think very many people wear it b/c i never smell anything.

LOL! Great idea! I am one of those allergic, and a heavy perfume wearer near me in Church can send me runnig for the door!

Yuck! And in church I've changed my seat more than once after someone came in, announced by their perfume first! :crazy2:

I change seats in church too - sometimes several times. The worst is in the choir loft - where everyone should know better. (It's a well known choir rule - no perfume)

I think if anyone who isn't kissing you, hugging you, or at least close enough to shake your hand compliments you on your perfume then you've got a problem.

I found it very funny when I realized that Stinkerbelle was the first one to respond, but didn't say anything. LOL.

Does your office have an e-mail bulletin board? You might want to post that you and others have allergies and could everyone go light on the perfume.

I don't like to smell anyone ..whether it's perfume or worse, I just flat out don't want to smell people. (I make an exception for babies, who smell marvelous.)
