Too much fun at your table?

My DW and I recently went on a Disney cruise on the Magic and had a wonderful with two of my teenage cousins. Most of the fun we had came at dinner time. We had second seating dinner which is great eating after the show. One night in Parrot Cay we got a little bit rowdy and fun. They had a steel drum band going and I was dancing in my chair. Then one at a time the four of us in our party took turns leading the rest of us in our own little chair dance move. We were all laughing and giggling and stuff. The other two families at our table that both had children under 10 were not amused by our fun antics and told their children that they did not need to act like us. I thought that they were kind of stuffy. I think that we were totally in line with what we were there to do. Have fun!!! They wouldn't even let their kids get extra maricino cherries! Were we wrong?

Let's see you weren't dancing ON the table - but in your chair? Sounds ok to me. But then I'd let the kids have the cherries too!

I didn't think that we were that weird. We were kind of loud with our clapping along and singing with the band but they were telling us to sing along. Would sitting with that kind of people bother you?

Wouldn't bother me unless you all were obviously drinking too much. (I always request a private table for us on cruises because I just like to be with my family. Trust me, I'm not stuffy, lol.)

I wasn't drunk. People who know me, know that I am kind of high on life to begin with. We were just living the moment.

Maybe they should add a questionaire that asks if your family is shy and timid so they can put you with the rest of the shy timid people.

People were watching us but it was just for fun. The people we sat with just wanted their kids to be quiet and sit there.

I'm not one to get up and sing or dance, but have no problems with others doing so if it's appropriate at the time (which that was). My son got up and joined the conga line, no problem here

Personally, I wouldn't let the kids have the cherries either...but that's because I'd be stuffing them in MY face!!!
I'm totally serious about that, too. I even have them put marischino cherries in my tropical salad during lunch at Tritons.
Normally, we are on the adult rotation (starting in Tritons), but a couple of times we have started with the kids in Animators, and those were some of our best dinners! On one occasion, everyone in the restaurant seemed to be using their spoons to "play" the tables like a drum. And of course this 30-something "kid" had to join in! Of course, I love Chef Mickey's at WDW and always get a kick out of the kiddie games at Ohana, so maybe I don't represent the views of most adults. But personally, yes, I DO think those people were stuffy! What's life without a little fun...you have to grow old, but that doesn't mean you have to grow up, and especially not on a Disney cruise.

I let the kids have the cherries!!! The servers brought a BOWL of them everynight! I also allowed dessert even if dinner wasn't finished AND let them eat all the ice cream they wanted!!
Hey...it's vacation One week of poor eating habits will not kill them!! My eating habits were pretty bad that week too!

Joining in the fun in the dinning room is part of the whole cruise experience. As long as you are not TOO loud, I say have a ball!

I think you must have been sitting with my sister in law. She is the most humorless person on the planet I swear! NOTHING makes the woman crack a smile, laugh or cry..NOTHING! She is what we call the icewoman because she just is. She would NEVER approve of anyone doing stuff like that but I think it is great! Who really cares what others think as long as you arent making a fool out of yourself or hurting others or even really disrupting an event I say go for it. Luckily your chances of ever seeing them again are slim. People who take themselves and life too seriously really need a reality check. Life is short make it fun!

And on our November cruise my 3 year old lived on french fries and mickey bars and NOTHING else. He did eat doughnuts for breakfast at the table and about a million pounds of ice cream from scoops as well but for dinner olur waiter ended up running around getting fries for my 3 year old and putting up with him not acting really nice until he got them! I would have let them eat anything they wanted. It is their vacation and one week wont really harm anyone will it????? LIGHTEN UP PEOPLE!!!! Vacations are supposed to be fun not serious!!

Sounds to me like you were having fun and they needed to loosen up.

While on our Wonder cruise last October we took a took a tour of Nassau and Atlantis. It was my family (DH, 2 DS's, Mom and Dad and 2 sisters) and another family of 3, two adults and a young teenage girl. The teenage girl was ok but through the tour we were having fun, cutting jokes......some people would call it enjoying vacation and life and they just sat there with no expression at all. I still call them the lifeless family. I mean you would speak right to one of them and they just ingnored you, not even trying to be polite......oh well to bad tarzanman is not sailing with us in October 2003 we would have a grand time.......cherries and all

From tarzanman's description, the "antics" (his word) of tarzanman, his wife, and his teenage cousins were not appreciated by two families with whom they shared a table. I have no idea how disruptive they were (or weren't) to their tablemates and others in the dining room, but reading tarzanman's description made me glad we weren't sharing a table.

Before someone attacks me because I'm perceived as attacking tarzanman, allow me to remind you that tarzanman asked for opinions. Further let me point out that the following comments are my opinions about Disney Cruise restaurant behavior, not specifically about tarzanman.

The restaurants on the Disney Cruise Line ships are fine dining restaurants. I expect my children to behave with reasonable table manners while dining, and to be respectful of those around them. They should stay seated properly while dining. Of course, we talk and laugh, but we keep our voices to a reasonable level.

There's lively and happy. Then there's rude and obnoxious. Different people will have different opinions of when one crosses from the former to latter. And there a places where different behaviors are appropriate. I hope that on our next Disney Cruise, we'll be seated around others who are lively and happy, but not rude and obnoxious.

What cruise are you on in October. We are going on two. We are going on the 10/12 Wonder cruise followed by the 10/18 Magic cruise. Are you on either of those?

I am sure that you are going to have a wonderful time. Just remember to have fun at dinner!!! We are traveling with BeanoC and his crazy family so I am sure that we will be having a good time.

No offense taken about the opposing opinions of people. Usually things are pretty at dinner during the first rotation as everyone is just soaking it in. It is in the second rotation on the 7 night that people let loose. Everyone does have their own opinion and I thank you for sharing yours. It is completely understandable that some people may want a more subdued dinner atmosphere. I am sorry to those people because I am not subdued. Not obnoxious but not just boring.

You sound like fun....when we went our October Wonder cruise and we had a large table of eight (all of my family and such) and we are a great time at first seating and those around us seem to be dancing and singing and having a dandy old "magical" time!!! Have fun on your back to back cruises, I am jealous!
