apologies, i cannot think for the life of me this morning and my head is spinning trying to get a vacation put together :faint:

ok, if at MK i plan early magic hours and/or rope drop and then plan a midday break at hotel then go back to MK till midnight will a 7 year old fall apart with all this?

Depends on the child and if they nap mid day or play and swim. I wouldnt try it for each night on a trip. My kids make it until about 10 or so and thats all I ask of them and not each day. Its a long day and we can do so much in that time that I dont need to go from 8am - midnight. Could they one day, sure but its hard on them(and me.)

i too am a fellow jerseyan (jerseyite?) lol

i am only planning on doing this one or two days. i plan on her taking a nap at the midday hotel rest as well as sleeping in the days after. doable?

Depends on the child. My first child who is twelve now, could easily. In fact when he was two, he did exactly that. My middle child age nine, could not. He wants to go to bed earlier and will say he has had enough. My husband will often go back to the hotel with him while the oldest and I continue to play until closing.

Now we have a third child who's two. She is more like my second child (will not make it) and most of the time I am too tired to open and close the parks. :) But I am going to attempt it 20 days from now with my oldest because it is our 'thing' and draws us closer.

Follow your child's lead. When it is clear that they have had enough don't force it; this is suppose to be fun for all.

Mine could but I have raised very flexible children and they are also night owls.

We did this several times except we don't go back to the resort, to exhausting and takes to much time Plus we would never have napped. No way my 7 yr olds would have laid down and napped. We probably would have just taken a break in the park, ride the monorail a bit or had ice cream.

You know your child. Do you ever keep her up or is she in bed the exact same time everyday no matter what? how does she handle a long day of going, going, going?

It really depends on the child. My kids where 18 months and 4 last time we went and they both made it to about 10 every night with no problem. And, we didn't go back to the resort midday at all. The kids napped in the stroller and they were fine. But, I know plenty of kids that couldn't do that at all.

We have 7 & 8 year old girls and we usually are in the parks for opening, have a siesta around 2pm(ish) then back to the parks late afternoon/evening. It sometimes wears me out :hyper: but we'll just go with the flow and see how everyone is coping. We are lucky to be in Disney for 16 nights this time so have plenty of opportunity to 'suck it and see'. Good luck!

I think 1 day like that is fine, one thing that really helps us recharge is to alternate early mornings with sleep in mornings. If we are planning on hitting EMH. We sleep in, spend the morning swimming and eating lunch by the pool and head to the park later . Of course this would have to be during warm months.

Every kid is different. Last year, we hit early EMH at DHS, went back to our hotel to nap (which was dumb because my kids stopped napping at 18 mos.), once the nap idea failed miserably, we watched tv and then headed off to MK at 4 for MNSSHP. When all was said and done, My kids were up from about 7am to 2am. We actually got back to our hotel at 1am, but they insisted on counting the candy and having a snack. LOL! DD was 8 and DS was only 6.

You know your child, and no matter what opinions and experiences you hear, it really won't help you because all kids are different. The best way to approach an unfamiliar situation is to be flexible. Going to Disney is different than any other vacation spot when it comes to kids. Some kids run on adrenaline the entire time while others need a midday recharge. After the first couple of days there, you should be able to get a feel for what you will need to do to make it the best trip possible for your little guy. Have a safe and magical trip! :goodvibes

Has anyone mentioned that it depends on the child? ;)

No really, it does. Could mine handle it? Maybe, but I would push for a nap at the midday break versus swimming. We're going to try it (minus the am EMH) in a couple weeks. I think mine will be ok until we are walking to the bus and on the bus back to the resort. That's when it will hit him how tired he is.

ok, i have decided now if i do this i will for only one day and hope that it all goes well.

i DO know my own child but the problem is it will only be me and my 7yo niece.

i will be in the scooter (so it wont be hard on me) and i am hoping that she can sit between my feet for part of the day. i know with my child even if we rested in a dark hotel room laying down with the tv on low, this would recharge him for the rest of the day. although i know that my niece sometimes still naps after school if she needs it so i think she would fall asleep back at the hotel. i know not to tell her that she has to sleep or she will force herself to stay awake, lol.

i do know that she will not say that she has had enough, she will push and stay as long as they don't kick her out, lol. i know i will have to talk to her beforehand and tell her that its a possibility that we will go back to the hotel room during the day. i am prepared to bribe her, lol.

i think if i came on here and read that all the responses said "no way" then i wouldn't even try it. i have never done rope drop before (i never do early morning there, i love the nightlife) and i know she would love it, and i know that you need to get on line for rapunzel once the park opens.

i have a million things that i want to show her in disney and i am still trying to make it all happen, and i do know that i may not be able to do it all, but i will do my darndest for her! she hasn't been since she was 9mos old and i doubt she will be able to go again until she has her own job and pays for it herself, so i want it to be as magical as it can.

I wouldn't count on having her sit on your scooter though. It's not safe with the controls and is against park policy. I have seen CMs stop people who were.

I think in this case, ask her own parents if they think she can handle it.
Even if it is too much to last until 12, its not going to make her trip or time with you less special to get into bed at 10 pm over 12 pm and if it makes the next day(s) even easier to be on the go then its worth missing those few hours.

I think a 7 yo could do it, but I would make sure there wasn't any early plans for the next day so everyone could sleep in a bit.

My kids wouldn't be able to handle that. They would be exhausted! But they like their early bedtime...

They are usually 19 30 bedtimers and up at 7am. Our plan with kids aged 8, 6 and 5 is to do RD, head back at lunch, and aim for bed around 21:00. That may go out the window though ;) although we are factoring in three late nights for Wishes, Fantasmic and Illuminations. On those evenings, we are letting them sleep in the next morning and having a water park/hotel day with a theme park late afternoon/early evening.

We are lucky to have 15 days in WDW though :) with a short trip we might try and extend the hours a little.
