Too Many OT Threads? vote now!

what do u think? too many OT threads on the DIS Lately?? no offense, Mal, I just want to see if I'm the only one who thinks there is no problem. sorry if this makes u mad.

I belieive Mal made a post yesterday about this very subject. And this thread itself is OT

She also directed everyone over to the teen board right here on the DIS. Where all the OT stuff that has been here, is accepted and encouraged over there

actually, Mal made a post telling people to keep down the OT threads. it wasn't necessarily a poll, because no one could vote. i just didn't see a problem, so i wanted to see how many ppl do have a problem.

Quess what JoeBillyBob the reason it wasn't a poll is because we(the moderators)did not need to ask you what we can see for ourselves we are the ones trying to keep this board on track and not make it a Instant Message forums or just a chit chat place for a few but keep it the Board it was intended to be Virtual Magic Kingdom Discussions.

You do not see everything that is posted and deleted or merged the only thing you can see is if we close a topic.

ok Mal but if u want the Boards clean, then why not make a Board for kids that are not teens. yes, a lot of adults do go on VMK Board, but the kids need somewhere to go too, so why not make a new Board for kids instead of having to do so much work?

I voted yes - there are too many OT threads. As stated in Mal's post yesterday, this board is for VMK. If you have an OT post - you may post it in the Teen Community Board or another place on the DIS. The OT threads have got a little too much of late.

No one said the board had to be boring or stale just not completely OT which is where it was heading.

I do not know why you are heck bent on debating this topic it really is not up for debate.

Excuse Me!!! I think you are not getting the point here. This is a VMK Board. While your OT subject maybe of importance to you - they do not belong on the VMK Forum.

And also, use respect when using the forum. What you stated above is totally uncalled for.

This tells me that you only want to hear people speaking against Mal. If it sides even a little towards what you don't want to hear it apparently becomes "sucking up".

I think there have been quite a few OT threads and I respect Mal's previous thread of informing us of the matter. She did not tell us to completely stop making OT threads, just to tone it down. I think Mal and Lori are being very generous in that they allow any OT threads at all. So instead of "bashing" what Mal said, I would rather say, Thank you!

I didn't vote because I don't agree with this thread.

oh disvaclub92 don't get so bent out of shape over this. this is just a little debate i started. people make huge deals about a lot of things, so i just thought it would be good fun to see what ppl would say.

and Mal, i'm not the one freaking out over this topic. it is you who is a little too over the edge. if u want ppl to do things, try making a little nicer thread next time. i made a big deal over this because when i read your post it wasn't all too nice. maybe asking a little nicer next time would do the trick??

I hardly consider what she posted "freaking out".

While I know we have said it time and time again how we welcome offtopic threads the main focus of the VMK Boards is VMK and this board has been getting alittle too off topic lately.

We have loads of different forums here at the DIS so please check out the other forums once and awhile and lets try and keep the main discussions here on the VMK boards VMK.

The focus of the VMK boards afterall is VMK.

To answer you question- I answered yes that it has been getting a little too off topic from time to time- there are actually 2 threads right now that are essentially just for random off topic posts- one is OT place to ramble and the other is post if you are bored- I don't really think we needed the second- but it wasn't a big deal- but when all these random posts and multiple on the same off topic subject- or something so completely random or personal that it really affects no one else but the original poster and their desire to increase their post counts.

A few months back there were not any off topic posts- and a few were created- but the OT posts remained in those- and didn't really clutter the board- it was clearly identified as Off Topic and so if you didn't care to read it you could easily skip it and not miss anything.

I have no problem with things like Miakoda's game with puzzles or pics- because it was one that others could also put their puzzles in- sure it was off topic- but it was fun and actually originally there were VMK related prizes lol

I have no problem with Birthday wishes- and also things like Get well wishes- those things add to the community of the board and I think make it more fun

Then there are things like the ZETA posts- as I am a ZETA I definitely don't have a problem with it- but you will find there are limited numbers of those threads- and we try to keep them all contained- we don't tend to resurect very old Zeta threads or anything like that.

I really like that this board is relaxed enough to have some off topicness from time to time- but still remain focused enough that I can get the information that we need- for it to still be a VMK site... but it is important to remember that the VMK forum of the DIS boards is a small section of the entire DIS boards- and there are lots of off topic spots on the DIS boards- so lots of places for a lot of the random posts here to occur somewhere else- you can still have the fun of the posts and still keep the VMK forum mostly VMK...

I do remember reading that Mal and Lori have both indicated that if anyone just wants to hang out and chat in a place that there is the Teen Forum and the Community Forums and a few other forums that are not necessarily Disney related but have some other topic- see all the Just for Fun Forums...

I'm also really glad that they are merging similar topic threads- happens all the time when new stuff comes out- you check the boards- no one has posted the information and so 2-3 people post at almost the same time- so new threads on same topic start. But it is great to be able to merge those- and the creation of the trade sub-forum was also great- (trade threads never bothered me- but it sure is easier to see those now than it used to be)

And yes- the first thing I thought of when I read the heading of this thread was yes- and this is somewhat off topic as well. And when I read the message I was thinking- but it is a moderator decision what is on and off topic and that really the DIS boards aren't a democracy lol... I don't think any decisions they have made in asking people to cut out all the random off topicness is wrong or directed at any one individual- there have been many of those threads that really have nothing to do with the game- and when I have read a few- looks mostly like an attempt to increase a post count- or conversations between two people.

I do read the off topic threads- and enjoy hearing about other people's lives but really enough is enough with some of this... no one really cares what your post count is- and no one really cares if you start 100 threads or not. People tend to respond best to those who are respectful of others, who are helpful in answering questions, who contribute to the "family" atmosphere, and who also have fun while doing so.

Sorry to clutter the boards more going on about this- and no I don't think this is a debate- and for the most part other than my first comment this is my general thoughts on the topic posted and this post is not directed at any one individual on the board.
