Too many Kids onboard for childless couple to have a good time?

OK....I know it's Disney.....there will be children there.

My husband and I are cruising (just us!!! wheeeee....) on the Magic for our anniversary. I know there are adult only places onboard and at Cataway Cay, but I have also heard of people saying how there were so many children on board that the children were litereally bumping into the adults, running all over the place to the point of giving me the impression that it was overwhelming. We do love children, but one poster made it sound oppresive!

We are going in June 2003 (yes, I know....peak time for children to travel....) to celebrate our anniversary. So, we would like to be able to at least take a stroll on deck with out being run over.

We've never cruised before, so any input would be appreciated. Thanks.

We are also a childless couple, and we have sailed Disney 18 times, with #19 coming up tomorrow. As you might guess, we think Disney offers an EXCELLENT experience for adults!!!
You are already aware that you will encounter plenty of kids on board, but the adult areas offer the pefect excape. People think Disney has more kids underfoot than other cruise lines simply because of the brand name, but we have sailed on four of RCCL's ships and have had a worse time with youngsters running wild (and RCCL has pretty much NOWHERE for the adults to escape!!). We love the adult pool, beach, spa, and nightclubs. The main time you will see kids is in the shows and at dinner. Out of 18 cruises, we've been with other adults all but 3 or 4 times, and those were on holidays when the kid population was greater than usual. But we were very lucky and had nice, well-behaved kids on all those occasions...they were a real pleasure to chat with. I say go for it...I know it may be hard to believe, but in my opinion Disney offers the best adult cruise experience.

We cruised with Disney last Dec. and loved it. We saw kids around but they weren't everywhere.
Spend time in the adult only areas, eat at Palo's, hit the Rainforest Room.
You will have a good time.

If you love Disney, you do not mind seeing children around then you will be fine. Disney does a wonderful job entertaining children of all ages. IF you are like some friends of ours and have dislike being around children, just seeing a child puts you in a bad mood, do not sail Disney. You will see children, you will see preteens hanging out in the stairs but not all the time. This is a family boat. It is also the only cruise line that offers adult only areas. So if seeing a little one is OK, go you will love it. Kathy

DH & I will be taking our 3rd Disny cruise in May and have gone on all three cruises by ourselves. Our son is grown and even though we have invited him to go, he chooses not to vacation with Mom & Dad. Anyway, we have always had a wonderful time and are looking forward to May. You have the option of seeing as many or as few kids that you choose. Take advantage of the adults only areas, we have never really had any problem in these areas with kids running around. Enjoy!!

DH and I just did our very first cruise (and with Disney!) and we too worried about kids being everywhere. We have adult children 18 & 25 so it's been years since I've been around little ones. We had late seating and saw very few kids at dinner. We stayed at the adult pool so that was child free as well.The adult beach at Castaway Cay is a slice of heaven compared to the family beach. The only time we saw large amounts of children were when we went to the 3rd deck atruim for Tritons or other reasons and kids were lined up for the characters. Otherwise we saw a few at breakfast at BBB and here and there but never had a problem being bumped into etc. I did keep my eye out knowing that kids on vacation are excited and busy and not paying attention to where they are going so I did advoid a few collisions that way
We were pleasantly suprised that as many were on the ship 2500+ It did not feel crowded in the adult areas. It was fun at times to see the kids we did meet having fun!
I am excited to be going back this fall.

We cruised last June and having 2 DS (17,18) (which is like being childless) were not bothered by the small children. We did second seating for dinner and did early show so were on the opposite rotation of the small children. Adult areas are great. We cruised first then went to WDW and were more annoyed with the small children @ WDW and stollers than anytime on the cruise.

Not at all! I thought for sure my Dh would HATE the cruise. I didn't think he'd like being so close to that many kids and he just wouldn't be able to relax. WRONG he loved it. And the kids truly were not an issue for us!

We do not have any children but have enjoyed 3 magical Disney cruises. There are plenty of places to get away on the ship for alone time.

but they were never a bother! Hubby and I cruised the Magic last January to celebrate our 25th wedding anniversary. We have two grown children, and two young grandchildren but did not take them with us on our cruise. I was a bit concerned we would be bothered by so many kids on board, but we hardly saw them!! I've heard mostly good things about the kids' clubs, and the adult only areas are great! We must have had very well-behaved kids on our sailing as I don't remember ever seeing any of them misbehaving. Never saw teens gathered in the stairways either. The only time a child was a bit annoying was at dinner. We were seated (early seating) with a family of 5 and their youngest daughter was 6, and she annoyed me a couple of times but not bad enough to make us want to make the effort to change our table. We are booked on the 1/18/03 Magic and this time we really want to be seated with just adults at dinner, so if we go to dinner the first night and see that there are children at the table, we will request a change. Other than that I'm not going to worry about the kiddies!

We took our DD3, but commented constantly at how romantic the trip would be without her. The adult pool is peaceful -- the clubs are strictly adult in the evening (better than on other ships), and Disney will seat you in the adult rotation so as to avoid the children.

The dinners (other than Palos) will be the least romantic part of your trip. I suggest booking Palos on multiple nights (especially on Animator's Palate nights) to get the nicer romantic ambience.

BTW, the adult beach at Castaway Cay is like none other! No kids allowed. Period. You'll love it.
