Looking at maps ahead of our trip and there seems to be a lot of 3d or simulator type rides....shrek, minions, simpsons, spiderman, transformers......are they all similar or a totally different type of ride?
If you're limited on time and have a 5 and 7 year old (both girls) which would you prioritise?
Thanks!

Counting down to 14th May!

Just got back and UGH - too many motion simulators! Forbidden Journey includes motion simulator too. I couldn't go on them all as they make me sick (and I find them kind of boring).

For me, Transformers and Spiderman are too similar to do both. I also can't understand what they are saying on Transformers.

But the others don't feel similar to me, and I really like each of them. Shrek is hilarious and fun, Minion is fun, Simpsons is great, too.

For kids that age Despicable Me, Shrek and Spider-Man would be a must do.............DM and Shrek are very clever and very funny and Spider-Man is one of the best. Transformers is ok but SM is better story wise.

The technology on these rides are amazing........FJ is out of this world as far as technology goes but your 5 year old maybe a bit young for that as it is quite scary.......you know your kids best.

The only one I don't do is The Simpsons as it makes me I'll, but the others don't have that effect on me at all.

Hope you all have fun :thumbsup2

Once you get onto the ride, Shrek is very clever. But that preshow is WAY too long and slow!

Loved DM, though!

Simulators make sense in parks that have limited space. I can see why Universal has so many.

I would recommend Transformers in spite of its similarities to Spiderman. More than a few kids pronounced it very cool and that includes the big kid that was with me. ;) At the very least check out the meet and greet just down the block from the entrance. The Transformers costumes are amazing!

Really? By that logic IASW and POTC are too similar
to do both as are ITTBAB and Philharmagic. Go on every ride and show you can and use child swap for those rides which would be too scary for your children. Why limit yourself based on the personal preferences of others? You've spent the money and bought the tickets ...make the most of it.

I absolutely loved Transformers ( more so than SM) but would have missed out on it had I listened to negative or lukewarm reviews. On the other hand, I can happily skip FJHP while others rave about it. Ride with an open mind and form your own opinion. Hope you and your family have a wonderful time!

We just did six days with myself, DW, and DS(10) and DD(6).

Transformers is way cooler than SM in all of our opinions. Again, just our opinions. Although basically the same ride, it seems Transformers had more screens and more action.

DM was def my DD favorite. We all liked it a lot, she loved it.

My son and I enjoy HP, but my wife and daughter could care less. Wife thinks you are too close to the non-3D parts.

I love, love, love the Mummy! My son will ride it with me to shut me up, the rest of the family could care less.

We all love Cat in the Hat, but no that it will not get that much love as the kids get older. For some reason, I love that darn train through Seussland.

We ride Shrek each vacation just to do it.

So as you can see, it is just opinion. Transformers is the latest and greatest for us, but who knows come next Sep (2014), maybe Gringotts will rule the world!

Ride everything once, they are different enough and just enjoy!

Thanks for all the replies. Hopefully we will fit in most across both parks over 2 days then. We are doing one night in hrh so have express pass and early entry to wwohp.

If you are staying onsite you won't have any problem doing all the rides at least once over the course of 2 days. We were just there from Dec 22-23 and crowds were crazy but we did all of our favourites multiple times before 6 pm .

I can't do most simulators because of motion sickness. We took our three kids (then 4, 5, and 9) to US before Disney last summer, with two day tickets, staying onsite. I was never once bored and the rides were different enough to be interesting. Each had a story line and though there are many simulators, they are typically different kinds of simulators. Simpsons is a roller coaster type ride, Shrek is a show with 4d effects, Transformers and HP were more adventure-types. Here is my two cents:

Shrek is fun for the kids. When it got to be too much for me, I just looked down. Not a problem on that ride as it's not doing much of the false motion that makes most simulators too much for me.
We were there a few days before Transformers opened, but one of those days was one of the soft openings, so I wasn't about to miss it. It was a bit much for me, but I'm glad I rode it once. Just walking through the line area was pretty cool. I had to look down a lot and take a lot of deep breaths, and I'm glad it wasn't any longer. :)
Rode the Simpsons once with my kids and husband. Then the 4 of them rode it again about 3827273 times. Having ridden it on a previous trip, I knew even once was pushing it for me, so I quit while I was ahead.
I lost my lunch (breakfast) after HP and the Forbidden Journey. In a trash can right outside the ride. My 9 year old (who is pretty fearful of rides) also did not like it.
MIB was, strangely, a bit dicey for me too because of all the spinning but I never felt like I couldn't do it, and we rode a few times.
I love the Mummy but my 9 year old only wanted to ride it once so I skipped it this trip and let my husband ride (could have ridden alone, but didn't care to).
We all loved ET and could have ridden it all afternoon; same for Flight of the Hippogriffs, Jurassic Park, and Bilge Rat Barges (it helped that it was June and scorching hot). Perfect for the ages of our kids.
I skipped Spiderman but kids and husband rode it multiple times and all loved it.
We skipped Rip Ride Rocket, Hulk, Dragon Challenge, Pteranodon Flyers, and Dr Doom's Fearfall because our kids were either not tall enough or not interested. The little kids and my husband did Twister, but I had to leave early with my sensitive 9 year old. :sad1:
Ripsaw Falls was fun for me and my oldest, but the line was HORRIBLE, even with the on-site line privilege. If you are claustrophobic at all, be aware of that.

So in short, I also thought there were a tremendous number of simulators and was worried, but we all enjoyed it very much.
