Too late to start organising trip for Dec 2008...?

Hi guys,

Hope you can help...

My family (me Mum and Dad) are looking into going to WDW for the first time this December for 10 days. We have never been before, although Mum and I are Disneyland Paris addicts (30 times plus!) so we're familiar with Disney magic...

We are really wanting to go this year as next year will be pretty hard to do - I am starting teaching and though you get great holidays, they are all peak times for WDW and summer is just wayyy too hot for us to consider (we are from Scotland after all!!)

So, at the moment our circumstances are far from perfect (Mum out of work - though should have a job by end of April, parents have to sell their second home which was getting rented out to me and friends, going up for sale in June but very stale market here at the moment...) but Dad has said that if the house sells we'll have no financial problem going to WDW in December.

However, I'm wondering when you really have to have it booked by. We are hoping that the house should sell by September - is this too late to book flights, villa, car hire and park tickets? Also, will flight prices go up dramatically? we've found return flights for £416 per person, and a villa for £430 for 10 days, and so far the total for flights, villa, car hire and 7 day WDW tickets is £2330.60 ($4660 ish)...can we expect this to increase a lot? We don't want to book anything until we know for definite we can afford it plus spending money, so I want to be optimistic but also get some realistic advice...

Thanks guys - any tips about ANYTHING would be appreciated for an excited newbie...hopefully!!

I don't think it's ever to late to book a trip to WDW.
There is no way of knowing if pricing will go up.
If you can't book now, then you wait and book when you can !!
We are also going to WDW in December- what a beautiful time to go !!

Oh really? I am honestly clueless about WDW - can anyone recommend places to start, books, web sites, Disney Anonymous...?! Hehe

Oh and EverythingDisney - REALLY like the name of your second Princess...funny how my name is Jenna too!

I really like the Unofficial Guide to WDW. It's a great source of information, especially for a beginner. I imagine you can order it from Scotland, right?

These are just a few to get you started. Get a good guide book and start studying it. The Unofficial Disney guide book is probably the most comprehensive one out there. It is a very good book and comes highly recommended.

I recommend staying onsite if you can; especially since there is just the three of you. Then you wouldn't need to hire a car or worry about driving on the "wrong" side of the street.

Start planning you itinerary now w/ all the things you want to do and see, and the where you might want to eat.

Well, we have looked into this, but we don't want to stay in a hotel (we all like our own space ) and it's coming up pretty expensive to stay onsite - plus my Dad is going mostly for the golfing and shopping, so it suits our needs better to stay in a villa, especially because the one we're looking at is lake side, so we really fancy it. Haha - and my Dad has driven in America before (albeit TERRIBLY) so this shouldn't be a massive problem to overcome...!

So you guys reckon its still do-able even if we only book it a few months before? I'll definitely get that book and have a look on the sites too.

Also out of interest - where else, if anywhere, do you guys go on your visit to Orlando? I'm really not sure where everything is, but we quite like the look of Universal, too.

Oh! And do you guys, if you fly, usually go to Sanford or the one that's closer by, MCO? Its coming out cheaper to fly to Sanford, and I think its an hours drive away to WDW, but it looks like because they are charter flights we can't book them online yet...?

I'm so sorry for all the questions, but basically...I need help!!
