I watched the last of the last season and Tanisha had lost over 160 lbs!!!! I don't even know her and I am so very proud of her. These kids are in some sad situations. I look at the parents and they are spending all this money to send the kids to this program but really don't follow it at home. How much of a chance do these kids have of keeping off the weight if nothing changes in the home environment where it happened in the first place? It is just sad all around. I know that I need to lose weight but it is my own doing. Not something taught to me since birth. I am trying to make my kids healthy too.
As for the poster that thinks charges should be brought against Tanisha's mom...she has a rare disorder that requires many surgeries. The recovery time on each surgery has been 6-8 months of bed rest since they are on her legs. She gains weight each and every time. Her mom has cleaned out every single money source she can to send her daughter to this camp in simple hope that she makes it past the age of 30. Mom no longer has her home, 401K or any savings. From what I have seen, she is a single mother too. She is dong everything she can just to save Tanisha's life.
On the other hand, some of those kids are like that completely due to lack of nutrition in their homes. Some parents are willing to make changes with their child and some aren't. I can see how some will succeed on this journey where others will fail. The cards are just stacked against them. I can't see spending all that money, I think somewhere around 40 grand a semester, to not follow the program myself to help my child. Just seems nuts to spend all that money for no reason.
