I was really bummed that DHs break got moved to the following week this year. We went the first week of March and got great weather and low-moderate crowds. The day we left the crowds were expected to be high so I assume they will be high for the second week of March next year. We may go in May instead. I will look at the crowd calendars as the time approaches to decide.

I'm stuck with this week regardless....but I want to be prepared! We have done xmas...can't be worse than that, right??

We're planning a trip for spring break next year -- DS16 will be going with the high school choir, so we'll go down and meet him there. We've done most of our Disney trips over spring break -- DH doesn't like to go in the summer, and I don't like taking the kids out of school for more than a day or two (harder as they got older), so spring break always worked. We've never thought it was too bad! I just wish it were spring break THIS year that we were going -- which would mean we were there right now!

I too am a teacher. We are planning to go the week of March 24.

Is it the week after Easter (beginning March 31) more crowded than the week before (beginning March 24)?

This will be our first Spring Break trip. We are excited about the weather not beiing soooo... hot.:beach:

Can someone tell me about the two weeks mentioned above?

Based on the spring break poll so far, they both look crowded. I'm guessing that the first week may be a little more crowded due to some additional folks getting out of work and school for Good Friday.

Maybe someone has some input on any other special events going on during this time period like cheerleader, dance, etc.:confused3

The Disney site shows cheer and dance out to February, 2013, right now.

I am a school bus driver in Pa. My DD's go to a different district then what I work for. Both school districts only have off Holy Thursday, Good Friday and Easter Monday next school year no "spring break". Most School districts will have next years calander on the website(the one I work for had it in Jan and my DD's was done in Feb) hth

Only 72 voters so far. Need to keep this thread alive for a while as more folks check their school calendars...:surfweb:

My children have good friday and the following week off of school. So looks like another Easter trip for us. This year we went the week before Easter and the crowds were not bad and the weather was beautiful..I think it was 90's the whole week!! I think spring breaks are more spaced out then they used to be because the parks do not seem as busy during Easter week as they did about 8 years ago..

Debating on whether to try the week BEFORE Easter week next year. Easter is on March 31 and the kids break is the entire week before. We actually could take off a couple of days before their break begins if it would make a difference in crowds and then depart a couple of days before the actual Easter weekend.
I went the end of March this year and got really spoiled by the beautiful weather.

What is the hottest and coldest you guys have experienced over spring break?

I've had to buy all of us a sweatshirt over spring break (weren't expecting high 40s); on the other hand, both my boys got severely sunburned at Typhoon Lagoon. In general, though, the weather is beautiful. We've been during spring break several times (and it seems to just get worse and worse, crowd-wise, but we're suckers, we keep going back).

Union Co NC schools always take the week of Easter for Spring Break. We have Good Friday off, then the whole next week (4/6- 4/15). One of the main reasons we don't do Spring Break WDW trips- our week is always too crowded.

Of her 9 years in school, DD has only had one year when she had a different week for break- last year. Since Easter was so late, schools were out the week before Easter (another super crowded week).

Hi neighbor! I'm in Union County too!!

NH Last full week of April, So - April 21st. Easter is pretty early in 2013 , March 31st. Soooo hopefully for us, end of April will be quieter. We are planning 2 weeks in 2013 :cool1:

Hi fellow New Hampshire-ite!! We are also going for almost 2 weeks in April 2013. We are leaving the Wednesday before our Spring break. Can't wait!! Hopefully it won't be too busy!!

No offense but this poll isn't totally clear. You list all Sundays. Does that mean to pick the Day it starts? That is what I did - I picked March 24th (The week before Easter which is standard in Maryland / D.C. / Virginia, etc...). But it ends on March 31 st .. so not sure if I should have picked that.

The poll last year had begin and end dates.

Not the OP but here's my take. Spring breaks don't really occur over a weekend and most take place over the course of a week. With the categories labeled as "week of" and then the Sunday date, select the date of the Sunday for the week that the school is out for the weekdays immediately following that Sunday. The "Week of" phrase in the first row (March 3) carries over to each date in the list.

We are always the first week in April...no matter when Easter is....so we are March 31st -- April 7th in 2013.

That is exactly what I meant. Thank you for explaining. In NJ, most people have a full week and either Good Friday or the Monday after Easter off. I just wanted to see what the full week off was for everyone.

We are in that DC/VA/MD region that always has the week leading up to Easter off. We went for the 1st time during that week this year. It wasn't bad at all as long as you plan for it. Since most of us here on DIS either plan or know the ways around crowds, it shouldn't be too bad. I thought it was going to be really bad, but went at rope drop mostly 7am EMHs and left early afternoon mostly and had no trouble at all. It was much better than I thought and we always seemed to be going against the crowds. We were done before it was wall to wall people and really enjoyed our trip. The one day we went in later, we went to Epcot and just did low crowd stuff, it was great. We may go again next year at that same time unless we end up on a cruise or at Disneyland. :thumbsup2
