EVER WONDER WHAT SOME OF OUR KIDS MIGHT BE SEEING WHEN THEY READ? ............... Believe it or not you can read it.

I cdnuolt blveiee taht I cluod aulaclty uesdnatnrd waht I was rdanieg, tknahs to the phaonmneal pweor of the hmuan mnid. Aoccdrnig to a rscheearch at Cmabrigde Uinervtisy, it deosn't mttaer inwaht oredr the ltteers in a wrod are, the olny iprmoatnt tihng is taht the frist and lsat ltteer be in the rghit pclae. The rset can be a taotl mses and you can sitll raed it wouthit a porbelm. Tihs is bcuseae the huamn mnid deos not raed ervey lteter by istlef, but the wrod as a wlohe. Amzanig huh? Yaeh, and I awlyas thought slpeling was ipmorantt!

Amazingly, I was able to read that. :p What's so sad is that could be what words look like to those with dyslexia. :(

It is amazing, I'll admit that. But a another point to consider (besides the first and last letters being in the right places) is that all the CORRECT letters are used for each word; they're just jumbled up.

I could read that my youngest DD suffers with dyslexia....She now has a statement sayng she has specific learning difficulties & is severely dyslexic( this came through the post only yesterday)... After 8 years of knowing this ourselves.I feel so glad that someone else as finally recognised her needs, & given her a chance, with the funding that she deserves....Thankyou so much for highlighting the problems of those with Dyslexia.....

I cluod raed taht petrty good!! How asomewe!!! :hyper:

That is really neat. I never would have thought it would be that easy to read mixed-up words.

Thanks for sharing!

Wow...That was interesting. No wonder my DS and I can read each other "IM's" and e mails...and we thought our spelling/typing was a problem. Thanks for sharing this.

Don't you think phonics has something to do with why we can read messed up letters?

That is how I decipher my pre-schooler's writing. I sound out each letter, and I know what he wrote.

Actually this research disputes phonics as the way to learn to read. Phonics breaks words down into each sound. This research says that the human minds learns to read by recognizing whole words...

Hmmmm, tell that to my 6 yo daughter who can not regonize a word unless I have her sound it out.

As a homeschooling mother to ds (9yrs), I think that that theory only holds true for those that already know how to read. My son has so many visual issues/disabilities that doc's therapists, teachers don't even know what to do w/ him that I know he would never be able to read what was in the OP. I, on the other hand, already knowing how to read, had no problem. So, I wouldn't say that everyone can read it because the 1st and last letters are in place.

Very interesting!!

My DD 6, is very adament that "kids spelling" is never wrong thanks to her Kindergarten teacher.

I always thought she was smarter than I was!!
