It was on Tuesday, June 24, that we had decided to check out the Richard Petty Riding Experience. Now, I am an almost 60 granny, and I am way too chicken for that sort of thing. My grnadson's momma on the otherhand, has been wanting to do this for some time.
We awoke early enough, but since it was overcast, we decided a taxi from POR would be quicker. Richard Petty Riding Experience, is at the Walt Disney World Speedway, which is located near the Transportation and Ticket Center.
Well the mom in our party of 3 put on all the racing garb. Jumpsuit, heavy shoes, helmut, some sort of harness, and a photo in the passenger seat and she was ready to go. She has always wanted to know how Richard Petty feels. She rode in a green racing car. Green is her son's favorite color. Her son, my grandson, who is 12 has to wait until he is 16 in order to experience the "ride".
Well the ride was over very quickly. They took her about 4 or 5 times around the track. They reached speeds of about 140 miles per hour. She climbed out of the car with a big smile, saying things like Cool, and Awesome, and Now I Know How Richard Petty Feels. Couldn't get me in that car, if they paid me. Cost for her to ride $105. Well everything at Disney has a souvenir shop, so she bought a few of those too, along with the nice Plaque they make up with your photo. I believe she felt, it was worth the money.
We took advantage of the van that they had going back to the transportation and ticket Center. From there we got on a bus to Animal Kingdom. We immediately got fastpasses for the Safari. I went alone to see the Lion King Show. I also happened upon Lilo and Stitch and was able to get autographs and pictures with not too long a wait. Met a nice dad, with the cutest little red headed baby.
After riding the safari, the 3 of us at lunch at Pizzafari. Very crowded and very good chicken, parmesan sandwich.
We headed over to Dinoland, where we caught the act of Lucky the Dinosaur. He had adults and children following him around. It was about a 40 minute presentation, very enjoyable.
WE then split up again, and I staked out a spot, in front of Disney's Outfitters, to watch the Animal Kingdom Parade. I must add here, since I neglected it up top, that I absolutely loved the Lion King Show. Great indoor show. Good music. Funny. My seat, waiting for the parade, was in the shade, so I took off my shoes and made a few phone calls home.
I have never seen the Animal Kingdom parade before, and although it is short, it is worth seeing just once. After the Parade, I purchased Pal Mickey. I now had a "pal" for the remainder of my trip. Mickey sat nicely on my fanny pack attached to a lanyard. I coundn't figure out his, so I used my new pin lanyard, which is actually a softer material.
By the time I returned to POR, my grandson was ready for a swim. WE walked over to the French Quarter, and he was able to get a few slides down the sea serpent slide, before the rain came. After dinner at the French Quarter Food Court, (we remembered our mugs), we walked back to POR. It was still raining. We needed to get to bed early, because Magic Kingdom was opening early tomorrow, and my grandson wanted to wake up Tinkerbell.
